No way to make a Verizon RAZR V3C into a Revol Wireless phone?

No one has figured out a way to completly erase everything on the V3C and start with a clean slate that I can take into Revol to activate? I really love unlimited anytime minutes to anyone and anywhere and I never travel.

OMG, $370 for a RAZR? No wonder you want to find another way to do it. That price is absolutely insane.

I know! I bought an unlocked Verizon V3C from eBay mistakenly thinking I could erase ALL of it's Verizon-ness and take it into Revol. I went to two Revol locations and they told me they couldn't do it. At the first one I just handed her the phone turned on with the new Altell software and Revol background I put on it. She turned it off and on and saw that damn black screen with the Verizon logo that you can't get rid of no matter what, apparently, and said no.

Then I went to another location and this time I just asked if I had a Verizon Razr if they could activate it for me. They said no and told me to go a few stores down to one of those multiple provider stores. They told me that they tried to turn Verizon into Revol before without success. I also went to another generic store and they tried to sell me another Razr for $300 and a $50 trade in for mine.

What about a giant electromagnetic field or something like that? Maybe if I take the phone into outerspace with me? If I had a friend that worked in a cell phone factory/ store? If I apply at a cell phone factory/ store?

I don't think that will work either. What about a different provider? Are they the only pre-paid in your area?

Only UNLIMITED prepaid around. I used to have Virgin Mobile and I hated having to buy $20 cards every few weeks. There's other prepaid carriers, Boost, etc, but Revol is the only one that is unlimited.

Yah, I was checking their site out, that is really not that bad of a deal. How is the coverage?

The catch is that there is no roaming to speak of. I did have a phone with them (a cheap Kyocera that I dropped one too many times and is the reason I am in the market for a new one) and the service was pretty good. I hardly ever experienced any dropped calls. I also loved the unlimited text messaging. You just have to look at the maps they provide, as the phone will only work in those areas. I rarely leave Columbus, so that's a perfect plan for me. I paid $175 for a used phone on eBay. It's in decent shape, but has a few scratches, no box and no manual. What if I buy the phone from revol for $370 and keep all of the accessories and manuals unopened and take apart both phones and sell the Verizon phone in a very like new condition on eBay. You think that would make any difference on the eBay resell value?

Posted by: Heavy Fluid

You mean swapping internals? Hmmm, that might work. Are you good with disassembling and reassembling phones?

Posted by: marioxb

Yeah, that way I can maybe re-sell the phone on eBay for at least a little bit more than I paid to offset the revol cost. It's not fair. I've heard you can turn a revol into a verizon, but not vice versa.

It might be a risky move, but go for it. If it works, you might be able to make up some of the cost of that Revol RAZR. Man, I cannot believe the charge for that bad boy. Were they even that much when they first came out?

I've taken apart Nokia phones before and all kinds of other electronics, particularly video game stuff. Not specifically a Razr, but I'm up for the challenge i think.

cheeck this website out. www.howardforums.com

they have people there who pobably have the revol firmware. They pretty much have every firmware you need. If you want, just tell me and ill make a post and see if anyone has it.

Would flashing with the Altel FW help at all? (just a random thought since they cripple less than vzw..)

Yeah, if you would, that would be cool. Thanks! I did flash it with the Alltel firmware already before taking it anywhere, but all four places I visited said no and they wouldn't even try.

I made the post. well see what happens.

Well, I went ahead and purchased a Revol Razr phone. Got a used one for $300. I'll see what I can sell it the Verizon one for on eBay now.

The Revol interface is pretty much the same as Alltel (or standard Motorola I suppose) except for that the volume screen accessed when you push the side buttons looks a bit different. When powering up, you get the HelloMoto screen first, then a short clip of the Revol logo. I'm gonna attempt some USB transfers when I get home.

I copied the Revol filesystem onto my computer. It's almost the same as Alltel. There is a Revol startup graphic and the outside screen just shows text (not a pic) that says REVOL in the middle. I can send it to someone if they wanna upload it someplace.

Is there a way to make it say NOV-10-2006 instead of 10-NOV-2006. I live in the US and get easily confused. LOL.
