(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: JwY

alright, it's time to start a thread like this so post any advice you have including more advanced registry changes. here are some i would like to point out.

quick keypad lock:
hold *z or hold the end call button

activate voice dial (built-in):
hold the home key

speed dial:
hold the number and for double digits, press the first digit and hold the second digit

joggr constant scroll:
slide once and slide again, but hold and move up or down to control the speed

function/num lock:
press the "fn" button twice to enable and twice to disable

caps lock:
press the CAP (up arrow) twice or press "fn" and then CAP, and repeat to disable

start menu shortcut keys:
after pressing start, the 8 icons correspond to the 8 keys on the top left of the qwerty keypad
QWER
ASDF

registry changes:
enable joggr:

HK_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\Botto mKeyApplicationName to \Windows\iexplore.exe (For IE)
and
HK_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JobBar\Settings\TopKe yApplicationName to BACK (the back button)
(thanks to staulkor)
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...94&page=2&pp=15

you can also change the TopKeyApplicationName or BottomKeyApplicationName to whatever program you want
additional functions are back and start by changing the value to
BACK
or
START

You need a registry edit program. Pm me with your email and I can send to you.

How can you disable the BottomKeyApplicationName ? I sometimes hit it and it opens iexplore it. i want to deactivate.

Posted by: Menza

I tried holding down the home key and nothing happened on my S620. Is there some registry chnage you have to make to make the button work?

Change the entry to NULL

nope, it just works for me and the prompt pops up.

Thanks for the tip on the voice dial as I didn't know of it and was using it with a speed dial key.

I'd add for those who are new to smartphone and/or don't ever opt to read the manual: A quick press of the power switch brings up a quick list of functions (comm mgr, phone profiles)

Posted by: JwY

you're welcome
i accidentally stumbled upon it
there must be alot more we still don't know

Posted by: DanITman

This one was posted over at XDA-Developers

It will mute the ringer as soon as you touch the jogger.

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\

There's a key there called EnableRingVolumeMute

If there isn't, try creating it and setting it to 1.

Posted by: john1027

Dan, Have you see any posts of anyone who has figured out where the shortcuts are on the S620 that allow you to remap the ie and msg buttoms on the bottom rt of the keyboard? I seems from what I read over in the T-mobile forum that they see the short cut keys in the windows file. I don't see them in the S620 (only the camera shortcut). I have done this in the past with an sp5m and its real simple to remap the keys if you can find the shorcut keys. I have not looked real hard but didn't see any other file that looked promising.

good tip on the silence

I don't actualy have a Dash yet, I'm just collecting info right now. I don't have one to mess around with yet to remap the keys. As soon as I get it I'll be looking.

Thanks Dan - If I find anthing, I'll let you know.

Does anyone know if there is registry change that makes the AIM use the data connection and not SMS similar to the sidekick?

To view movies crisply:

-- Use Slysoft Clone DVD Mobile and use the "smartphone" option to rip at 320x240.

-- Use TCPMP and choose "16:9" ratio and "Fullscreen".

Awesome video.

Posted by: V3RMILLION

Is there any way to mute the phone when you recieve a Text Message. I'm able to mute the phone when someone is calling by touching the JOGGR, but it doesn't work with a Text Message. Thanks in advance.

Posted by: sokelut

I've read somewhere (I can't remember where...) that says if you rip the DVD to your PC resolution first and then change it to 320x240 after, it will give you better quality but ofcourse now you have extra step than straight to 324x240

how long is your text message tone such that you need to mute it?

Posted by: V3RMILLION

Well its about 10 seconds long. But I've also noticed that if I get multiple texts in rapid succession (which I do because I text a LOT), like 1 Text Message comes in and the song starts. Well if another comes in before the song finishes, it starts playing again with the other one still going. Its not a big problem, it just bugs me. That and sometimes I forget to mute my phone in class and when it goes off, I can't do anything if its a Text Message.

Posted by: JwY

i don't really think there is a mute for text message sounds since most are really short -- less than 5s
did you try hitting the end key?
i'll keep an eye out if there is anything that can do it

can someone with a S620 tell me what the "zipper" like icon is next to the bluetooth icon? thx.

EDIT: is this for the JOGGR?

yup, it indicates that the joggr is active
when you deactivate it, it should cross it out

Posted by: CoRupT

So i got a question should i go for the dash or wait for the s620 price to drop to 400? Is there going to be a ubranded rom coming soon? is there a lot of problems with the t-mobile version?

Posted by: JwY

if price is a concern, just get the dash
you could just reflash it later

Posted by: CoRupT

Well i have the money but what is a better buy?

S620: i wouldnt have to edit any registry to get the JOGGER, Already unlocked
Dash: cheaper,Locked

I plan on using it on cingular so i dont know whats more convient i would request a code but a t-mobile version will be able 410USD vs 470USD for the unbranded version

Posted by: zionerd

Corupt I’m in the same exact position. However I went and purchased the dash from tmobile. Another caveat you need a tmobile account to purchase it from them (get someone who has an account with them already). It's pretty much the same phone as the unbranded (minus the two jogger buttons). A registry edit or any other software (flash cid unlock etc) modification will be available in the future (as we've seen with the jogger reg edits)...iit’spretty much a matter of $, patience and convenience....

Posted by: CoRupT

Well if t-mobile dash is $430+tax thats already $450 for a branded/locked dash. the unbranded version is 469+shipping= 480 30.00 more. ive called three stores and they all told me 429.00. if i give them a t-mobile subscribers number will the price go down even if its a prepaid phone number? i have a t-mobile to go account that was for a sidekick

Posted by: zionerd

I payed the full price of 379.99 + tax came to $415.00...damn tmobile is raping customers...well maybe its a franchise things...either or yea if I was in your shoes I would go ahead and get an unbranded model for $30.00 more...I guess its no biggie (like I said depending on your $ situation, patience etc). the only way the price will go down is if you give them a tmobile subscribers # who is willing to upgrade their contract...(the lower price gives you an incentive to extend your contract)

Posted by: CoRupT

hmm i know the manager at a t-mobile corp store are they able to hook up friends/families with some discount?

Posted by: JwY

the device is worth it, just pick a method and buy it
at this rate, the successor will be out

Posted by: JwY

More registry hacks i found (never thought playing with playing with the registry would let me find so much!)

Mute Function:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\
EnableRingVolumeMute
change to 1.
(thanks to xda-developers)

Hide JOGGR Icon (bar beside BT):
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\
EnableHTCJogBarIcon
Change to 0

Lunar Calendar:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Calendar\
ShowLunarCalendar
Change to 1
(i haven't actually tested this as i haven't figured out how to disable papyrus as the default manager, anyone know?)

To disable roaming triangle:
HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/RIL/DisableRoamingIndicator
Set it to 1
(thanks to sabesh)

i know i want the device really bad but i dont want to lose money on buying a expensive device when tommorow the price could drop a few hundreds

i know, price wise, the t-mobile option is probably better for you
it wasn't really a viable option for me when i got mine
if you're expecting a price drop, it won't be much for a while

Posted by: CoRupT

im realling looking to pay about 400 for the device but i might just go ahead with the unbranded version less hassle for me

Another good one! And thanks again for the app, the edits were painless lol Of course, I did back up the registry first just in case.

Posted by: JwY

you're welcome
i'm not sure what you mean by the app though

i also tested out the lunar calendar function just now and couldn't get it to work, so ignore that edit.

Is there any way to remap the program that th ehome key launches when you hold it down?

Posted by: messiah023

I don't know if this is a tip or not, but it was a quickie thing on my S620 that I stumbled across. I have facade installed, so I don't know if it's part of that or the phone itself.....you will have to try.

At the home screen, press the back arrow <- key and it will go to the task manager to close or switch between open programs.

A quick step rather than going through the menu system.

i never had that problem, are you using the dash or s620?
try resetting it and doing it again

Posted by: jmzoch

I don't have a tip but I hope someone has the trick to help me out.
  1. How do I keep my email (POP3 setup) from deleting mail on my server? I would prefer that the client left the messages on the server.
  2. Is there a way to create folders when using a POP3 setup? I am not using the Outlook setup.
  3. And now to AIM. AIM appears to work fine when I am chatting with someone consistently but if the chat stops for awhile and then someone starts chatting again I get nothing unless I tell AIM to refresh the list. Its like I lose my connection. Is there another app that is better than the one that comes on the Dash?
Any help with these would be greatly appreciated. E-Mail and AIM seem to be my biggest gripes. Thanks.

~Jennifer

I had to brag about this for a sec. Ive been a hofo reader for a few years now and this is my first post. I went from the t610 to a nokia s60 to a treo 600 to a treo 650. Now I have this winmo5 smartphone my 1st Windows device and I was dubious about the whole platform change. I am an apple biz agent so you get the picture. I have used the markspace products to make it all play nice with my macs and continue to do so with this device. So without further ado let me tell you about how cool it is to control iTunes on my LAN with the Tmo Dash and those registry edits to enable the jogger touchpad it's as cool a tool as one could hope for. A few cosmetic tweaks and we are golden. The setup looks like this: OSX + Webremote (http://deadendsw.com/) + the Dash and you are a remote iTunes controllin' fool and it's easier than you think. BTW I am in no way affiliated with any of these companies just a really thrilled consumer...

Cheers.

New and tested hack that I found to work!!!

This one gives you a dialpad when dialing and when on a call it was done on the tmobile dash not sure if it works on the HTC unlocked version.

First you need to copy these two files to your /windows directory

dialpad.jpg
carrierlogo.gif

see below

then navigate here

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/:MSCdial/BannerImage

you need to modify the bannerimage settings to do so select bannerimage it will bring up a string that points to Brandingbrick.gif delete Brandingbrick.gif and change it to dialpad.jpg save your changes it will give you a warning but it worked fine for me.

power cycle your handset

dial a number you should see the dialpad where the tmobile logo was and when you actually connect there should also be a differnet dialpad

any questions you can PM me

I've got more good stuff in the works I will post as I get it to work

Does someone have the link to the reg editor that is pc based rather than phone based?

There was one from a French site I believe that worked extremely well.

Yaeh i realized that after posting, I was honestly just super stoked and felt I finally had something to add. I also wanted to say thanks to all the people who diligently deposit their discoveries in this community. It makes it easy to foray into something previously totally inaccessible to the layman.

So, thanks to everyone for providing me with the information to while away many many hours...

Here is another one that works well. Mobile Registry Editor:

Hasn't been updated for awhile as the developer is taking a break for other pursuits. Their blog has a preview of 1.2 that will eventually be released.

seems interesting, do you have a screenshot of it?

Posted by: envision

No i havent had a chance to take one yet but if you click on the attached files the dailpad.jpg takes the place of the t-mobile logo when dialing and when you actually connect it changes to the carrierlogo gif its good if you dial a number that has a word in it like 1-800-tmobile for instance now you know what key is what when dailing.

I will submit a pic when I get a chance

Posted by: JwY

thanks, it's just that mine isn't t-mobile branded so i was wondering how it would look on the dash

Posted by: zerowind

Here's what it looks like:

I didn't like the in-call dialpad so I just used the first image and turned it into a .gif and used that instead. The Dash background is a mod I did to my standard tmobile in-call wallpaper but the icons at the top are what you will see; they'll be added to your current in-call background.

Posted by: JwY

thanks for posting that
it looks pretty useful afterall

Posted by: envision

Thats actually a great idea to use the same pad for both I will do that as well

Zerowind, could you show me how you did that in-call wallpaper mod? OR Point me to the post

Also I just wanted to say THANKS to everyone testing and posting these mods the phone was great before but now it is near perfect!!!!! Thanks everyone!

I have a question about the reg settings for the JOGGR. I noticed on the BottomKeyAppParameter it is set to -service "ActiveSync". I read that to mean it should sync your email when you use that button as well as launch the mail app. Does that work for anyone?

Posted by: Tanko

Ok so people have been asking for the s620 homescreen for their dash, i want the dash homescreen for my s620 . Does anyone know how to get the one that the dash comes with as default? I saw it at the T-mobile store and thought it was very nice. Also, has anyone had the problem with speed dial where you hold down the number and it does not open the program you set it to? It has been happening to me lately and its a bit frustrating

There aren't any existing posts on this but it's these two files:

PhoneBKI1_Land.jpg
BackgroundImage_Land.bmp

Just replace these two files in your windows directory with two identically named graphic files. I haven't tested to see which one it actually is, but they both have the same image. I just replaced them both.

-No need to backup the files you are overwriting as they are in rom; just delete your modified files to recover the originals.

I could not find those files you indicated in my Dash, but I found:

_PhoneBKI1_Land.jpg
_PhoneBKI2_Land.jpg

I tried following the same proceedure but I still get the same file when I dial out. What am I doing wrong?

Posted by: niko5

I messed around and found that BackgroundImage_Land.bmp earler today and replaced that and it worked for me.

The only problem I had is I used that dialpad image you used for your incall screen becuase I liked it better but I guess the format of mine cut the edge off and pushed it to the left not the center like yours so I had to crop down the dialpad image to make it show up....

Does anyone know if theres an XML page somewhere for the incall screen? im sure theres some formating on there that i could change to make it display better.

I guess you probably have the S620 and not the dash, right? That would explain why we have different files and why it worked for you and not for me.

You should look through your device by browsing on your desktop computer. (they may not show up using the device's browser) The files are there unless something is missing on your Dash (highly unlikely but possible)

I believe the files are there. (That's where the image that you are seeing on your incall screen comes from afterall)

I used the same names you indicated and then copied the files in the My documents directory using activesync..then using cut an paste moved them internally in the Dash over to the Windows directory. Still, didn't work!

Posted by: zerowind

Why are you copying to My Documents first? Try this:

Copy the files *directly* over to you device's windows folder from your desktop. (the buit-in internal explorer is useless and I've set that particular icon as hidden to keep it out of my sight). There are better ones to use; it won't copy system protected shortcuts among other things)

Reboot your device.

Also make sure the files are the correct resolution (I'm sure you've already done that) and try no higher than 16 bit depth for the bmp file.

Anyone know if there is a reg key to turn off the blinking LEDs. I really don't need a blinking LED to let me know my phone service or Bluetooth is on.

Here is a freeware app that will do it.

Here is another thread on the subject.

See my post at the end of theis thread about DontForget which is in beta and working pretty well on my S620 now. It looks pretty promising and the developer is very responsive. The beta has to be manual loaded right now but he is promising a cab file installer in a day or two.

Excellent!

The DontForget Beta seems to work quite well. Now if I could turn off the LED for Bluetooth it would be perfect.

The 'Deactivate in following time' function seems like a nice feature if he gets 'Switch Profile' working.

Thanks for the help.

Does anyone know how to reorganize the Start Menu? I want to take all of the programs that are in the START menu and oranize them into 4-5 Folders, so when I hit start I can more efficiently get to the program I need. I tried to do this via the Explorer built into the phone as well as using my Desktop to explore the phone. I get an error message when trying to move or copy pre-installed program icons.

Posted by: zerowind

what I did was create copies of the shortcuts in the folders I made then hid the originals. as you've found, you can't move shortcuts in rom but you should be able to copy them using your desktop. I forget which explorer I used (I never use the built in one but depending on what I'm doing, use two different ones on the device, as well as the desktop explorer)

I updated that post in the T-Mobile Mobile forum today. Hujer, the developer, made a cab installer for the current beta.

i just manage it at the /windows/start menu location
i had it not allow me once, but after a fresh reset it would let it move via activesync
alternatively, resco explorer works as well on the device

The CAB file is what I wound up using. So far it seems to work pretty well. It would be cool if he could add in a hook to turn off the Bluetooth LED as well.

I know, I know...I'm a dork. But I want to replace a lot of the system sounds with my own Star Trek wav files (Computer sound effects, panel beeps, etc). Is there a way to do this?

Some are settable in the sounds settings, but one example in paticular is the "Click" sound for keypad control. You have three options: tone, click, and none. I want to use my own.

Any ideas on how to do some of this? On my MDA, all I had to do was copy files directly into the windows folder...but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I even tried saving a wav file as "ShutterSound.wav" to replace the camera sound, but it still plays the old one....

So I'm at a loss. Any help would be appreciate. Thanks!

How did you hide the originals. If I right click on the files in my PC, The hide option is grayed out.

He had something in his blog about not being able to do so as the orange and blue lights are hardwired into the device in some manner that makes them inaccessible. I have not doubt that someone will try and maybe succeed.

I actually used IA_File_Manager. It was the included explorer on the SDA.If you have an SDA, copy all the IA_File_Manager files in Windows to a folder on your Dash or Storage card, Then run the.exe, it will allow you to view properties on a file and select "hidden" as one of the attributes. Sadly Resco Explorer doesn't include this (which I use for most other things) when I need to do some Start Menu cleaning up, I whip out IA's manager. It really isn't landscape aware so that's pretty much all that it's good for...

BTW are you aware you can arrange which shorcuts appear (as well as their order) in the first two screens in the start menu? I actually do this, and just have a Games & Accessories Folder. You might find having too many folders a little cumbersome. If you arrange it correctly, your 16 most used apps are only two taps of the Start button away...

If you're interested, I believe it may be in the SDA faq...Or I can tell you how to do it if you can't find it...

All you have to do is take the file you want to use make sure its small and convert it to a wave copy it to your windows directory and it should pop up in the list when you selct your sound for whatever function just remember it has to be a wave and it has to be small!!!!!

Does anybody think unlocking this phone would be a waste of time or do you think it could open the phone up for more hacking

I've had problems getting certain hacks to take that I know will make it alot faster

I'm wondering if it would screw something up If I needed to install a update from t-mobile in the future if need be I've never had a unlocked phone before???

Posted by: john1027

Based on your comments that this is so you can install hacks, I take it that you are referring to application unlocking your phone. The answer would be no and it would be no problem. All app unlocking does is remove the lock that is placed on the phone by MS that will not let a program install that has not been certified by MS. While that has some merit in trying to ensure that the programs are completely compatible with the o/s, most 3rd party developers and those who develop various hacks, don't have the time and resources to go thru a lengthy certification process.

The other two unlockings often referred to is Sim unlocking, which lets you use any valid sim card in your device from any carrier/provider and cid unlocking, which removes the lock in the interanl rom and lets you install roms from other carriers/manufacturers for the same device. For what you are trying to do, neither of those is necessary.

I'm not sure

I was wondering the same thing but
yes it does switch to call volume function when you make a call

good because it should

Ok, just got my S620 and it is amazing!! I have two questions, how can I change the clock from 1:00 -> 24:00 to 1:00 -> 12:00? I currently have all my contacts on my sim card, how can I change them to show up as Windows contacts? Yes, this is my first smartphone...

Posted by: JwY

time is managed under settings -> regional settings so try changing the location, etc

you contacts should show up, otherwise try the sim manager

Posted by: john1027

Time Format Change:
settings>regional settings>time format (toggle to your choice)

Sim Contacts:
start menau>expert>sim mgr>menu>select all>menu>save to contacts

Once you save to contacts to avoid seeing double entries:

settings>phone>call options> uncheck show sim contacts

This leaves all your original sim contacts on your phone or you can also delete them if you like thru sim mgr.

If you are new to the smartphone & the S620, it would be worth your time to at least give the manual a quick read. It misses a lot of tricks and shortcuts, but does give some good basic instructions.

Also try the T-Mobile Mobile Forum here at HoFo and see the stickies at the top for many questions and answers about the Dash/S620.

you should look at modaco.com if you have time, they might explain it there

I believe the plugin you are looking for is RJ Shortcuts (Additional homescreen plugin that gives you static shortcut icons on your homescreen)...I have not used it with the Dash yet, however when I had my MPx220, it worked fine. Below is a link (navigate to plugins) where you can download the plugin along with other usefull plugins and programs. Hope this help.....

Has anyone figured out how to change the Alarm settings?

I've found where to change what midi plays when the alarm goes off but can't find how to change the length of time after hitting the snooze.

I think the default is 1 min and I'm thinking about 5 min. would be a little better for a snooze fan like myself.

Thanks

Navigate to:

Change String/Value InitVol to 0

OH. Ok now I remember, Resco doesn't allow you to hide Folders. (But as you said it can hide files)

I had used IA File manager to hide the T-mobile Hotspot and Application folders (after creating copies of the shortcut within and placing them in Accessories)

There is a free app called Vito Copypaste which works somewhat. You'll need to make sure your phone is application unlocked for it to run.

It's a little flakey though... Xbar3 works much better for copy/paste (and it is a *great* task switcher/manager) but if you leave it running all the time, tends to hammer the batts as well as cause system level crashes which require a reboot to recover from.

I actually use Xbar3 but *only* run it when I want to copy and paste something.

You should be able to google both.

Hey guys. I did the Regedit for the Jogbar and now I can scroll. My question is this. I wanted to make the double click launch the task manager and I tried programming both the top and bottom and neither launch. I entered \Windows\Start Menu\Task Manager.lnk as I thought that would be correct. Am I missing somehting or do I have to change the values of those enteries? I was getting pissed off when outlook would mysteriously launch and I think that was accidentally because of the jogbar. Any pointers or suggestions? I think when I double tap the middle of the bar the commanager launches although I didn't see an entry for that.

Posted by: john1027

See this thread over at the T--Mobile Mobile Forum:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1029606

You need to tweak the joggr settings and not the task manager .lnk you found. That .lnk is the launcher for the TM program under the startmenu.

Ok so we got the T-mobile dash yesterday, and it comes with AOL IM on it. It works great as far as "chatting", but one thing that is crazy is we cannot figure out how to change the message sound. It is EXTREMELY LOUD and is that standard AOL "brrrring" message sound. No matter if we put the phone on silent, vibrate, normal, ANYTHING, anytime a message comes in over AIM it is loud enough to make 10 people in a store turn and look at the phone thats in a case on my belt.

Does anyone have any ideas? I just finished talking to T-mobile smartphone support and we tried everything without success. It just seems insane that you can change every single sound on this phone except for the AIM message sound.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

i was trying to change the pix of the in call graphics. tried an hour on my s620 using active sync. replaced the files, made sure the size is right. reset my device, tried making a call. Still the same old green htc graphics. ANyone got any idea why?
Could it be that I am using the new rom that xda developers posted??
thanx

I think the preinstalled client is far from awesome for a few reasons imho.

I just downloaded a java client from www.eqo.com, I tried it originally on my e61 and while not great, it is free and does do the job. I will post more on how it works with the Dash once I do some testing later on today.

Also, when I go the address bar what is the easiest way to clear the address bar. Right now I have to hold it down and slowly watch it creep back.

Yes you can turn the sound off, but this version does not work very well on the Dash. Seems buggy with AOL and Yahoo and does not seem to download all of the contact lists. And then during the operation of the program I get this error message:

Quote:
An MIDIet thead threw an uncaught exception. Kill the MIDIet thread?

Now this error is not only in this program, but each time I open Google Maps I get it as well although it does not hurt the maps program like it does in the Eqo program.

Does anyone know why this message pops up?

b.) Is there a extended battery available?? if so does it reqire a new battery door cover

To quickly clear the address bar press and hold the Back button, the button below the right softkey, that'll clear everything back to http://

Not that I know of but someone might. There is a sort of easy way to delete all texts. Go to the text message account and then hit menu and go to Folders, then in that screen hit menu again and go to Manage Folders. Now you can select the folder hit menu and clear test messages should be an option. Took me a little while to find this one out.

My question is does anybody know a way to create a new folder if one would like to save messages but not to the SIM card?

Also for the AIM sounds question, I didn't try this myself but The program RJV Tonesetter is free and in there you can select an Instant MEssage sound so you could probably remove the sound thats currently set but then again its not a good solution because you'd have to do that when you want the sound on and off.... Hope some of that helps.

A. There was some program I think it has a trial I can't remember the name. You could change those screens and make your own homepages and all but I thought it was a great idea but just a little too much work for me to bother. But I think it was relatively easy to change those screens. My issue was that it wasn't designed for the Dash's screen resolution so everything was kind of messed up. If anyone might know the program then let him know but I forgot. The user interface has a picture of several phones and you choose your model and start making custom stuff... I'm sure there is an easier way to change those screens though.

I have a question which I don't think has been addressed yet... is there any way to make the Dash display contacts in the "Firstname Lastname" format? I want Tim Smith's entry to show up as "Tim Smith" and not "Smith, Tim." I know they will show up how I want when the contacts are being read off the SIM, but as soon as I copy them over to the device, it goes "Smith, Tim." Any ideas?

Posted by: harryc8786

In outlook when you view contacts you can go to view and then custom view and you have a first name option. I didn't try it but if you choose that and that displays first name first and all then try to sync it up...

In Outlook on the PC, open the contact and select "File as" as the way you wanted and that's the one that will be displayed on the device. Unfortunately, that's how you need to do for each contact. There is no way to do it for all of them at once

EDIT: This might help. Although I haven't explored it yet

Anyways,

I was wondering if there is a way to unbrand/reflash my unlocked Tmobile Dash to the s620 so i dont have all the t-mobile crap? I dont know, but it jsut bugs me alot when I have to see T-mobile everytime I turn the device on or off, or when I make a call or whatever...

So is there a way to unbrand/flash this device or at least get rid of all the t-mobile crap?

On my Dash it is the key on the B button. Alt + B.

Hi,

Does anyone know of a decent screen protector? Preferably one that increases the screen's readability in direct sunlight. I tried the Fellow's generic screen protectors and they created this weird sparkling pattern and reduced the readability in sunlight by an unacceptable amount.

Is there a definitive answer to whether or not one can disable volume control of the JOGGR completely and just use it as scroll (even/especially on a phonecall?). It drives me nuts and I'm on the verge of just disabling all JOGGR features just so I don't accidentally turn the volume down when the phone is to my ear.

I love being able to scroll with the touchpad (touch-scrolling in pocket player to choose tracks is awesome BTW, but I'm beginning to think I can get by with the d-pad to save myself grief).

Have you ever handed your Dash to someone and had to tell them "but don't touch it over here when you're holding it because "such and such" will happen". I was trying to show my Uncle some pics in the slide show on the Dash and when I handed it to him he kept accidentally forcing the show to reverse.

I wish there was a "lock" function for the JOGGR so one could only enable it when necessary. A "double-click/hold down" a key on the keyboard would suffice to toggle the JOGGR. Can any of you Devs write one?

Shieldzone makes some really nice protectors. I would try them out. The demo shows an Ipod overlay and you can see the picture clearly although its not in direct sunlight. It wouldnt hurt to send them an email asking them or I can do a follow up post as soon as I get my protector in.

How come you dont like it?

Apart from some of the Shieldzone overlay not being "exactly" shaped like the device, the material is awesome and the non-fit is usually over and not under so you just need to trim a little.

I bought the "whole device" shield and not just the screen shield. Doing this means my device is pretty much "laminated" all over and I don't fret about putting it in my pocket w/ things that could scratch a bare device. If you've seen the demo on their site you really can take a key and hack away at it and it will pretty much come out scratch free.

I was worried about the original rubbery coating on the Dash, but so far after more than a week I actually like the feel and look of the Dash w/ this stuff more. Imagine that the Dash now has a "wet/glossy" look - although it's not slippery at all and still has a smooth yet "grippy" element to it.

Most people who complain about the Shieldzone had application problems - but after covering my T809, my wife's Motorola Q, and now my Dash with the stuff I can pretty much do it now dust and bubble free.

I found that if the corners/ends of the material don't tack down properly (you've got oil from your fingers on it/you didn't prep the surface of the device properly/you didn't trim enough off and it's overlapping) that it eventually will start to come off at that point. This happened on my T809 so I stripped everything but the screen protector off.

If you think you can cut your own, you can can actually buy sheets of the same material from other sources (I bought some from invisiblemask.com)

BTW- I think this stuff works best on items that don't require stylus input like smartphones or phones. Being a bit thicker than those other screen protectors, the material might affect the way the stylus works on a touchscreen.

I have used both Martin Field's and Shieldzone's products. I think the Martin Fields covers are better for scratch resistance and clarity but they don't stick as well as the Shieldzone covers. When I had my V3i the Martin Fields cover on the inside worked great but the one on the outside never stuck down quite right and I finally threw it out.

How about some pics

Well you are not alone... what i did was a little extreme but to get rid of it I reflashed the rom with these

http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ht=tmobile+dash

they worked great !!!! cant say that i wasnt scared to to try it... was afraid that I would brick it, but all went fine.... believe it or not the battery life is well improved, not to mention more bars on my antenna!!! you will need to make sure that you install a regedit on the phone because you will need to change the keyboard to 1033, wont work on desktop version... you will need to download both files install the update one first then the other, my start up flash is HTC

I have not tried this but search for btaudio toggle on the web or on this forum.

Posted by: harryc8786

I don't know about on a headset, but I have some BT headphones and when I paired them up all audio seemed to come through onto the headphones. I'm not so sure about a headset because I don't have one at the moment (lost my old crappy one) but my nokia used to just have all system and ring sounds come through the headset when they were paired.

Thanks for the pointer. I got the screen and it is great. Nice and clear and improves contrast on the screen. It has been cloudy here so I have not tried it in sunny weather.

I want to purchase this unlocked and use it with Cingular. Do I have to purchase a data plan or can I just use the WIFI that is built in whenever I want to get on the internet?

You can use just WIFI if you wish.

After doing a regedit to enable the Joggbar how do you change the system volume on the phone? Do I have to disbale the joggbar and crank up the system volume with the bar and then reenable the scroll feature? I don't want to have to change profiles.

Posted by: rEVOLVE

after the regedit, the joggbar only lets you change the volume during a call. All other times it is a scroll control.

I was under the understanding that with the JOGGR hack, you could not even change in call volume on the phone let alone system volume. So it is true you can continue to change in call volume with the hack?

Posted by: harryc8786

Yeah you can change the volume in call.

Posted by: rEVOLVE

There are actually more than one hacks - one changes the Dash to be able to use the Joggr for scrolling BESIDES volume (volume in call, scrolling any other time) - and the other hack simply disables the Joggr completely (some have chosen this as they are completely frustrated w/ the volume changing from accidental JOGGR contact during a call). The other hacks involved rerouting the shortcuts of the top and bottom of the JOGGR to the app you want.

I'm still hoping someone will write some toggle utility so that JOGGR stays locked off only until you activate it (such as in an app like a browser or scrolling thru media playlist).

I am running into the following:
1. I receive a text message with a legitimate phone number in it
2. I select the phone number in the message
3. I try to save it to an *existing* contacts information
4. The smart qwerty query to get to the contact doesn't work, I need to scroll by hand to contact... only if the name of the contact is found in the letters corresponding to the digits 1-9... this is really annoying

Has anyone noticed this? Otherwise I love my toy.
Dan

I got mine to work on my S620, but I have two black lines (above and below the number being dialed) that you don't have. Wonder where they come from? Otherwise, I'm very happy with the changed dialpad look - THANKS!

Now if I could only change the background for COM Manager to match my blue theme.

hey guys i been reading day and night about the dash and I am like a kid in a candy store waiting for it to come in and start playing with, heres my question as i have not seen it addressed. I just found the article to make my Dash get internet with the Tzones package but can someone whos done this explain what limitations this has on surfing the web and if its any slower than adding the 20 or 30 dollar package? and at the end i saw you have to set your internet to internet and no wi fi i assume if your in a wifi spot thats unlocked switching to that would be easier surfing?

Posted by: leo777

is this it for modding the dash ?????????????????????

Posted by: XeeeeeeM

Is there a way to utilize the LED light for it to blink in a different way when you miss a call or get a text messege?

just need a registry editor and as i said in title" a quick how to jump start" i'm new to this stuff!

Posted by: aurori

I'm not sure if this has been discussed anywhere else but I know some people wanted quick access to the Task Manager.

I did this on my s620 by editing the following registry entry:

Navigate to : HKCU\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\

Change the Value: BottomKeyApplicationNam

from: \Windows\tmail.exe to \Windows\IA_Task_Manager.exe

And that will change the bottom key that normally goes to Outlook Mail to the Task Manager

Posted by: KenK2

Can you integrate Nav. into the dash? I really want thing phone but would like Nav with it too..

Posted by: TR11

id love it if someone could make a reg edit or something so if i press end out of a program it closes it.
annoying going to task manager to close things.

Hit the power key and you'll see an option for flight mode. Alternatively, you can go to the comm manager and turn off the phone radio part (same as flight mode.)

they had some legal issues with some formats like aac, can't remember if mp4 was one or not. the plug-ins can be found though if googled.
