one lil pointer thou, when you go to step 13 of the browser and gprs settings, you need to delete the t-mobile mms, set up they have in there, it took me a good 30 mins to figure out thats why it was not working. but once i deleted that, it worked great. once again thanx jcjdoss (tilting hat) http://flatlinesocom.com |

I just got my Dash last week and my Cingular SIM has me chatting away happily. Question regarding DATA PLANS. I use text messaging, and the phone, as I always had with a regular mobile. However, I am a gmail user and want email access, as well as being able to browse the internet when I'm lost somewhere and want to use google maps or somesuch. 1. Is it better to use a browser and access gmail via internet? 2. Should I set up the WM6 client for email? 3. Should I use outlook, and gmail's pop availability? And finally, WHAT DATA PLAN DO I NEED? I'm pretty confused about smartphone plans vs. data plans and the cingular folks can't/won't help because they're too unfamiliar with the device. Any help is appreciated! |

Anyone out there with comments on the Smartphone vs. Data Connect plans on Cingular? |

As for setting up push email, one sets up an outlook / exchange account, and enters domain (of your org e.g. mail.yourorg.com), username & password. Thats it. Magic happens then and push email/calendar etc should just go. You will need to get rid of the blackberry data plan - mine didn't work - apart from the fact you are paying more for blackberry (gouged in fact!) than a normal smartphone data plan ($20/month). BTW:-This is just going to give you your work email - I don't think any equivalent to the Blackberry Internet services for generic POP/IMAP email exists. [tell me if I'm wrong anyone]. As for moving to the Dash, much as I like it (my org stop supporting blackberrys and went all microsoft), the UI on the blackberries rock. It is a more efficient device, and the dash UI is workable, but thats about it. Responsiveness etc also suffer. Now the dash with WM6 does have some advantages, but if you are a long time BB user, I would look before you leap. I had been a long term smartphone user, went to a BB Pearl for several months and then came back to WM with the Dash, so I think I have a good feel for the merits of both. [Ducks for any flames coming my way :-)] |

I have a few weird situations where emails that I never erased disappeared as if only it could only stay on the phone for a certain number days. Like i said though......I'm just starting to work on it. I'll post anything i find. Please do as well. |
