Ok, so I know nothing at all about networks, wi-fi, etc...

All I do know is that I bought a PPC 6700, and I want to connect to the internet using Wi-Fi.

If I just go somewhere, scan the area for wi-fi...does it just automatically connect and I get wi-fi internet right there?

Or do I have to have a wi-fi account already sumwhere to borrow other people's connection?

How do I even set this thing up properly in my network settings?

I need Wi-Fi for Dummies!

It really depends.

Examples:

Starbucks offers WiFi access but it is thru T-Mobile so you have to sign up and pay for it.
Panera Bread bakery-cafes offer free WiFi and they have a short hand out how to access it.

Accessing-finding them is as easy as turning on the WiFi on your 6700. If there is a hotspot in range it will find it and present you with a screen to attempt to connect to it. If there are more than one it will start with the one with the strongest signal first and go thru each. Once you accept one that you want to connect to the required screens will appear leading you thru the setup.
