Wondering if anyone can assist on this one. The company I work for uses the Good Excahnge Server to manage email for mobile devices. How do I set this up on the T-mobile Dash? Are there any particular services I need on my rate plan with T-Mobile? My IT guys are claiming that the Dash is not supported by Good.

Help??

If you company has an Exchange server then they can skip Goodlink all together. No need to pay Goodlink any fees. Your Dash will connect directly to the exchange server.

They are telling me that they only allow the connection through Goodlink...

They should fire your IT guys.. Just kidding..

As you long as your Exchange uses Outlook Web Access (owa) you should be able to get it to work. all you would have to do is when setting up your dash via active sync type your owa address. (example: webmail.yourcompany.com) check the ssl and fill out your NT account info.

Posted by: cnutile

We do use OWA, but they have it set up so that you can only access it when on the Cisco VPN. When I am outside the network, I have dial in to create the VPN connection and then use a random password generated by a Key Fob to log in. I can't see myself doing all that on the Dash just to get email. Suggestions??

What about mail2web? I just set it up and it seems to work pretty good

I run my IT dept. and we are running exchange and use Good for our Treo/PPC/MS Smartphone/Nokia devices. All you need to do is to tell your IT guys to set you up on the server with your Good account and give you your PIN number. On your device, browse to http://get.good.com. This will load the OTA download page. Download/Install the software. On your Dash, go and find the OTA program just installed. Run it. Input your email address, like steve_a@mycompany.com. Then input the PIN they gave you and click Start/Next to continue. This should connect you to the Good server and download the application, profiles, security settings and all your email/contacts and calendar.

Oh, the Dash is listed on Good's website today as a compatible device so your IT guys are blowing smoke. Good luck.

So my IT Guys set me up on the Goodlink Servers. They downloaded the OTA Cabs for Smartphone 5.0, installed it and started to get things set up. They gave the phone back to me because I was headed home. Here is the issue - it seems to just be hanging about 3/4 of the way through the setup. The setup Progress bar is locked at about 3/4 and it says Verifying Certificates with 3 scrolling bars down below. I have restarted the software, even removed and reloaded. It always just hangs at this same place.

What now?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP SMFA1965!!!

Posted by: smfa1965

When you say they downloaded the cabs, do you mean they installed the Smartphone cabs on the server or on your device? The problem sounds like there is something not setup correctly on the server. I could of course be wrong about this. Once you start the OTA install it should just go straight through. Perhaps the policies on the server are not setup correctly or, there is a problem with the certificate. Not quite sure how to fix that off the top of my head. I would suggest starting from scratch at your office with your IT guys present if possible.

They downloaded the OTA Cab for the Smartphone from get.Goodlink.com. Once the OTA program starts running, it just hangs. I will bring it back to them today and see what they can do. Thanks!!

i re-installed mine today .. 8125 but hope it still helps..

it did "hang" on the installl on the 97% mark.. i left it there.. came back from lunch and it was still there.. i strated using my phone and then email started coming thru.

Basicly it was SLOW... but still went thru .. after it was set up again. it was as good as aways.

Posted by: cnutile

It was hanging for a few hours. I gave up and went to the application folder and everything was there. Just hit the Good launcher and got started. Works great!!

So I got Goodlink to work on the Dash.Very exciting until their Mobile Defense program locks my system. I know my password, the issue is that it also locked the KEYBOARD!! I can't enter the password. I was able to get Activesynch to accept the password and connect, but that still does not give me access to my phone. I can not dial out or use any functions, though I can accept calls. Any Ideas?? Is this a glitch with the Dash and Good??

I have been using Goodlink for quite some time for work as well. It Blows away Blackberry server BTW and most larger IT organizations will only choose one of these two. Exchange for large mobile device deployments just hasn't taken hold yet.

I have had the hang up during install issue several time with just about every HTC and Palm device goodlink supports. Sometimes the install goes smooth and others it will hang up for long periods and complete or never complete. I found in some instances downloading and installing using the wifi on the device instead of gprs helped quite a bit. I also have a feeling, hangups may have some correlation to how big your email/calendar account is on the server since it needs to sync up much of this information to your device during install.

As an avid freak for the latest I too just picked up the S620 to replace the 8125. I picked up the unlocked HTC S620 because that is the version on Goodlink's site they said they supported.

Checking goodlinks site tonight, I no longer see their mention of support for the HTC S620 on their site....whats going on here??

sure wish I took a screen shot of their site from 2 days ago. If they pull out from supporting this thing I will be pissed.

Here you go:

Thanks for contacting Good Technology support,

I apologize that our website mislead you with the information that the T-mobile Dash is a supported device. We are updating our website for the release of our next client version that will happen soon. There are a few devices there that will be supported only on the next client release.

For a complete list of the supported devices on our current clint version 4.9.1.46, please go to the Good Monitoring Portal, (www.good.com/gmp), Supported Devices.

I'm a T-Mobile user and my company also requires that we use Goodlink for all email, not ActiveSync because they can't remotely wipe / deactivate your device they say if you lose it or leave the company, etc.

So is the Dash my best option?

Are there major issues getting Goodlink to work on it? I again see the Dash listed under supported devices on Good's web site.

Does T-Mobile block any aspect of the data communications, ports, etc. that are needed in order for Goodlink to run smoothly? Does T-Mobile not support use of Goodlink as it says in this article in Business Week ?

Not so sure it's blocked. Several weeks ago when I had my Dash I tested Good the day the pulled the Dash off of their website. It would install and I was able to sync and get messages. The problem was that the screen was setup for a normal smartphone so the font was real small. Talking to Good Support they never mentioned that it wouldn't work on TMo. It was pulled from their site due to an error on their webmaster's part. Now that it's back, I don't see why it wouldn't work. But, I would certainly make your IT Dept. call Good first.

Your IT guys are wrong. GOOD does work on the HTC Dash...how do I know? Because I'm using an HTC Dash now and running Good Mobile Messaging v4.0.2.30_EN. I had to go to get.good.com and download the client

Good job on getting your going. Since I am the IT guy, I can tell you the version we are running on our Good server doesn't work. Good Support said several weeks ago it wasn't supported. Perhaps you have a newer version which I'll have to look at. Good only put the Dash back on last week. One thing though, you said HTC Dash.......Do you have the HTC S620 or the TMobile Dash? There is a difference in ROM and I've read that a few people like yourself have gotten the HTC model to work unlike us with the Tmobile Dash.

I asked Good about support for the T-Mobile Dash, referencing this thread and the problems people seem to be having. Here's what they said below.

I think I may go get one, and if it doesn't work, take it back within two weeks.

Anyone have any experiences with this version?
Brian,

Wirelessly posted (Nokia e70: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Symbian OS; Nokia N70/0618.07.10; 9730) Opera 8.65 [en-US])

Thanks for the post. I'll check my version on my server when I get to the office.

Despite the other posts here and despite what Good support said about needing the latest version, I can confirm that Good client v4.9.1.46_EN has been working just fine for me for over a week now on my T-Mobile Dash, which is the branded version from a T-Mobile store.

What's even better is that I didn't even have to upgrade my internet plan... I had T-Zones with Corporate Email ($9.99/month) as my internet plan and did not change this, and I have been able to use Goodlink, Windows Live Search, etc., etc. No limitations I can find at all.

I'm conscious of the fact that it might stop working at some point, and of course I would just have to upgrade to the $19.99 Blackberry Internet plan, but for the moment, this is a very good deal.
