MPT Problems - Cannot Download SMS

I've tried this on two different computers with two seperate MPT installs, so it's obviously my phone.
For some reason whenever I try to download SMS on MPT, or really whenever i try to do anything with MPT it seems to reset either my phone or my usb connection as I can hear the computer dropping the device.
Has anyone experienced this and found a fix?
