I have the v3c and the usb cable and i was wondering if anyone knoew how i could create my own custom ringtones and send them to my phone through the cable. please help.

use motorola phone tools to put ringtones on, theres some other software packages out there that will do it too....
if you have software that will edit the wav or midi or mp3 to chop it down that will work, then send it to the phone.

This has been covered on many message boards so I won't go into great detail but you need the v3c USB drivers (google), MSU - Motorola Software Update (used for switching the phone into P2k Mode - MSU is legally available as opposed to PST) and a program named P2k Commander. You can make any sound file a ringtone as long as you have the right sound editing software. Normally an MP3 file with a sampling rate of 44100Hz and a bitrate of 64kbps and around 30 seconds in length can work as a ringtone. The mp3 should be in Mono format. Install the USB drivers open MSU and leave it running in the backround then run P2k commander. Within P2K commander open the phones file directory and normally the ringtones go in /a/motorola/shared/audio . Once you have loaded the ringtones power cycle the phone and then open your audio folder within the multimedia menu and select the sound you want and then select apply as ringtone. That's the short version.

With the p2k commander i hit the auto start and it says its witched to p2k mode then a error screen shows up asking if i want to send a report.

Open PST or MSU and leave it running in the background. Then open P2K Commander. If the file browser opens close it. Then plug in your phone, NOT BEFORE. Now once it says phone switched to P2K mode right click the sys tray icon and select open P2k commander and then select the P2K Device (phone) as a source and goto the proper folder, generally /a/motorola/shared/sound/. If you get and generic error or USB I/O error or timeout error, unplug your phone power cycle (sometimes not necessary) and then reconnect to your computer. PST or MSU can stay open but close the P2K file browser and open it like before once the phone is reconnected. You can leave the sys tray program running. If you use a program like Bitpim you need to close the P2k Commander sys tray program and browser. Also close PST or MSU. Bitpim works on it's own.

Chevrock,
If you have your drivers installed then this sounds like you dont have your PST or MSU running in the background while you have the P2K program open. I plug my phone in, it recognizes my phone as always since I already have the drivers installed. Then I open my PST and leave it running in the background, then P2K Commander or P2KSeem.. I dont have to wait to plug it in anymore since I have all the drivers installed. The same should go for you as well. That's the point of drivers. I also keep my data cable plugged in at all times, just plug my phone into it when needed.

I use a free rintone editor called Mp3Trim.. very simple and once you understand the fading and playback techniques you can whip out rintones in seconds.

It may just be on my computer but when I connect my phone before opening the program that will be used to tweak-hack-edit the program either freezes and causes a windows error or the program takes forever to load. I have the correct drivers installed and I can mod any part of my phone but I do have to attach my phone after the software is already running. PST will start fine but programs like P2K commander and bitpim seem to have a problem with the phone already being there.
