Bass sucks in the X-Trail..so want to add a woofer at the back

went on the futureshop/bestbuy ebsite last ngiht and found 10"for 99.99, choice of JVC or rockford..installation is 19.99 with a lifetime warranty. My questions are..

Do i only need one of them ?
Are those the only things i need ?
Do i need a box or sthg ?

Any other things i should consider ?

You need a box, wiring, amplifier and the sub. Your deck may or may not have RCA plugs in the back, you will need those also.

JVC or Rockford? Rockford for sure.

rockford over jvc any day.

is that what you need? depends on how much bass you want?

If you dont want too much bass, then you can move down to an 8 inch and smaller amp or go to a car audio specialist and look for a bazooka (wow been awhile since ive said that)

Well no im not the type who blasts my stereo..i jsut need sthg to imporve the bass..and i dont really have a big budget...so the minimal upgrade will be fine..

normally i wouldnt even do this if the bass on the X-Trail is a li better....

What is a sthg? I am missing something.

For a basic system, do a small amp, 8" sub and good wires.

I'm assuming shorthand for "something".

Since I'm here, I too would recommend Rockford, Kicker, or JL Audio for the sub. Sub enclosure or "box" is recommended too. Get a decent mono amp and don't skimp on the wiring either.

hmm

doesnt the xtrail come with a bose/rockford system?

personally id go for a JL, or Boston, Ive always found that a 10" siuts my needs perfectly, but I dont listent to Krap and all this new music. Meanwhile my brother who does listen to alot of new music and krap loves 12"s cause they have a lower bass. Ive always found 10"s had a sharper bass, could be just me. NEVER skimp on wiring, if so u will lose alot of sound quality right there. $20 install? 10-1 they are using krap wiring. You can get wiring kits from $20- up to 300 if you want them. Krappy wires = krappy sound. And possible fires. Not a good thing
Make sure your deck has the outputs for a sub, if its a factory deck it probally doesnt.
99.99% of the time a sub will come in a box, or rather u will need it to BE in a box. You can get a simple one or something totally outrageous, $$ is the factor here.

More than one susb is toally up to you. From you posted earlier, one should do you.
You need an amp, u can usually get a half decent deal on one @ FS or go to a pawn shop. I dont know about where u live but here they are a dime a dozen.
One 10" sub preferablly JL, (but fosgate arent bad,) would be optimal Remember, in speakers, you really do get what you pay for.
you might even get away with just getting better door speakers. Go to a real audio shop and ask them. When I put my JL door speakers, 5 1/4's i believe in my Focus... man it was like night and day.
Any decent speaker shop should be able to take one look @ yer truck and give you an estimate of exactly what you need.
Good luck, and watch your wallet this can get real expensive... REAL quick.

EDIT: oh krap u are in Markham...
Ok heres what u do, come down to Kitchener and talk to the guys @ natural sound. They are the best shop around and they dont sell any krap. Not only that, they are amazing people too. They want to make sure that you get what you want, not what they want you to have.

I would second that on a JL sub. Rockford is good, but JL's have tight, crisp bass. I had 2 JL 10's in my 93 Eclipse, and it sounded amazing. I don't listen to rap, mostly trance and house.

Second on the wiring also. Don't chintz on the wiring. Do it right.

i think he was just looking for some bass. not a competition set.

but hell.....get 3 soundstream 8s and phoenix gold amp, with a customized box. Then for the wiring get watercooled tubes going and flashers shooting light through them.

thats how you do it up

i got 2 10"s in my car, sounds great, not a window breaker but its not for SPL, i, all for quality.

personally i think JVC sucks except for decks (i hve a USB JVC deck)
rockford is ... beh

ok for the price of that he can get one JL 10" in a box and it would still sound great, and have kick *** bass.

Not all JL's are comp sets, I was in Nat sound the other day and i think it was $175 in a box for a real nice brand new JL 10" add the wires and an amp ( headunit if still stock) and BANG! you got bass. ANd the boxes are custome made for the sub, not factory prefab garbage.

PLEASE, don't spend lots of money on name brand wires. Listen, any experienced audio person will tell you that they make no audible difference in car audio environments. The wire is nothing more than metal, the only difference in the cheap wire and expensive wire is that expensive wire is usually in finer strands making it a bit more flexible. Completely useless as the cheap kits have wire that is more than flexible enough to run through a car. Other than that, it's just metal. Some fancy brands try to get you to buy on their wire because of added shielding, which is useless in a car as you run the wires on different sides of the car. Home audio it can make a difference, not in a car.

this is true, but what I meant was not to get the skinny lil spagehtti krap, when u can get the nice fat thick stuff.. There are alot of places here that sell it by the foot, 2 gague i believe is 1.25 a foot.

All your going to need to run either of those crappy subs is max of 8 guage. Get an alpine type S, soundstream extreme, or an eclipse sw4000. for 99 bucks your probably getting a rockford punch P1 which is a joke.

i always get the gagues backwards... but i use the big fat stuff.

isnt there a difference in conductivity when it comes to wiring? I thought that the gold ones were better or soemthing like that. or was that home audio?

gold is a better conductor, so the electricity flows through it better i believe. All my connectors have always been gold palted.

Much to most disbelief, it is not good to run too big of a wire. Amps for some reason, unknown to me, do not run right on power wire bigger than they need. Something about they cant pull the power through the bigger wire or something, but it is most certainly true. Running 2 or 4 guage for a 300 watt RMS is overkill. Wire the amp up according to what the instructions say, it will tell you what wire to run in the manual. Basically an amp that draws any more than 40 or 50 amps will need 4 guage, any more really than 90 or 100 will need 2 guage.
