P990 wifi observation

I was just playing with my spiffy new P990i and decided to setup my wifi to hit a known Apple basestation. I know for a fact that this AP is protected with WPA and the BSID is hidden. To my knowledge no Mac or PC can see this AP yet my P990i can see it.

New technology that makes you go hmmmmmmmm...

weird, mine doesn't do that

It's really quite strange. A friend claims his Pocket PC does the same.

What type of AP (brand) are you trying to see? In my case it's the newest Apple Airport.

It depends on what you are looking with. On my G4 867 PB (NOT new technology, by any stretch of the imagination), I cannot see basestations with hidden BSID by looking in the airport menu. However, I can see all wireless networks in range of my computer (hidden or not) when I am running iStumbler. So perhaps the P990 is doing the same thing iStumbler is.

Yep, there are many, many ways to about this. It's just interesting to me that this phone does it straight out of the box.
