Cell phone charger for the plane

I am going to take a long 15 hrs flight, and I am wondering if there is a device which can help me to charge the cell phone's battery on the flight in case I run out of battery. I remember seeing an item on the SkyMall magazine saying we could somehow charge our phone through the audio jack on the seat in the airplane.

Does anyone know anything about it ?

Some planes have power jacks at some seats for laptops. Someone most likely makes as adapter for these. The problem is that hese chargers are not cheap so wouldn't it be easier to just buy a spare battery and charge it before you leave? After a 15 hour flight, how long do you expect to talk on your phone?

Charge it fully before you leave. I do not think you will be talking much on your mobile, if at all, while the plane is airborne anyway.

The headset jack on a plane does not provide enough power to practically charge anything.

Planes that have power for laptop computers simply have an AC power outlet at the seat. Take your regular home charger with you and plug it in just like you would with the AC power outlets on the walls of your home.

Or as mrcamp said, charge it before you leave. There's no guarantee that your flight will have these outlets.

The in-seat power plugs I've seen on planes are not AC. They are in fact 15 VDC. It is possible to purchase an adapter that turns the aircraft power outlet into a cigarette-lighter outlet. Since 15 VDC is at the top of the design range for devices that operate on vehicle "12 V" power, you could plug an automobile charger into this outlet and charge your phone with that.

However, I've made many 14-hour flights and since the phone is turned off during the flight, I have not had one go dead on me yet.
