Only FW08 is available for selfupgrade, you can download it from Siemens Developer Village .

I have firmware 04. Is there a problem in upgrading to the latest in one step?

Firmware 09 will be available from my-siemens.com in a couple of weeks (probably during CeBIT).

It's not recommended to download from piracy sites. We have seen cracked firmware that destroys mobiles before... And why do something illegal when it will be legal from my-siemens soon

If you have really big problems with firmware 04 you will get a free upgrade at a Service Centre.

I upgraded to v09, but as others, have not noted any big differences. The only one I can note is that now MMF ringtones sounds louder and there's no lag when playing them in between.

I've never tried selfupgrading, but NO, it's not a problem.

Anyway, you should wait till the official FW is released so you don't loose your warranty etc..

I'll upgrade to the official 08 for now. Thanks Molna.

Btw, do any of the upgrades increase the earpiece volume cause although it's acceptable it certainly could be louder.

use the serial cable. there's a thread in here that tells you how to upgrade your firmware.

Does anyone actually know of any major improvements in all these firmware upgrades, like increased ear piece volume, reception, added ringtones, java applications?

on 08 for the moment. seems stable enough.

will upgrade to something like 12 or 15 when it comes out but not 09.

Cant see the point in upgrading by one each time a new version is out.

Well, I didn't have the phone more than a few days before upgrading so the only thing that I have noticed is that guiding through the menu system is quicker and that the ringer volume is higher. I didn't notice a change in reception.

One thing I've noticed with both firmwares is that I never see the full 5 bars of reception even in the best of areas. Maybe it's just more accurate than the previous Nokia's I've had and the area was never perfect to begin with?

Thanks. I was gonna wait to do it until I went to my friends mobile shop but gonna do the upgrade myself today.
