Problem with the Nokia 6230 and Cingular's 64k Sim

I recently purchased a Nokia 6230 and it does not work very well with Cingular's 64k Sim Card. I have tried a variety of cards (all 64k) and it does not work well with any of them. When I contact Cingular, they tell me to call Nokia. When I call Nokia, they tell me it's Cingular's problem and I should contact them. Any suggestions? Is there a better phone out there that I should use for Cingular, that is more compatible with their newer chip? How about the Nokia e50? Thanks.

64K Cingular SIM here on an unlocked, unbranded 6230b, v5.50 FW. Works fine... and I'm pretty picky.

And oh, the same 64K SIM worked fine on an unlocked, unbranded Nokia E50, too.

When you say "does not work very well", what doesn't work?

I'm not sure if my 6230 is a "b", but it is unlocked and unbranded and is a US (not a European) phone. When I say it does not work well, I have had other newer Cingular phones which got a much better signal here in Los Angeles. When I called Cingular's Tech Support, THEY told me that the 6230 does not work well with the newer chip. Also, Nokia told me that they stopped selling the 6230 for Cingular due to this chip problem.

I have a 6230 that works just fine with the 64K SIM. I have no troubles whatsoever switching from my RAZR to the 6230.

I believe the 3G 64K sim cards are not compatible with anything earlier that 5.34 firmware. Anything newer will work fine.

I am in NorCal and I have 2 6230b - originally from Cingular and flashed to firmware 5.50. The phones work so much better than with the old firmware - plus I had them "decustomized" and I have network selection enabled. The new 64k SIMs work great. Evan at iunlock.com did a great job and fixed Bluetooth issues as well with the new firmware.

I am also in NorCal, have a 6230b that I just got back from Nokia, flashed to firmware 5.51, which still does not work with the new 3G cingular 64k card. (phone asks for restriction code; phone was bought from cingular and worked fine w the prior 64k "smartchip" (non 3G) card.) Will unlocking do the trick for me? (despite the phone and SIM both being from cingular.......) The new 64k 3G sim card does work fine in other phones...

im using 6230b and 64k sim and works great for me.

and is your 64k sim card a 3G sim card or non-3G? non 3G seems to work but 3G does not, and of course Cingular will only issue 3G...

Get it unlocked it might help get rid of that error.

my 6230 asked for a restriction code, when I used my 64k sim card, but to fix it I had to unlock the phone, I dont know if it makes sense, but when I unlocked it, I havent got that message. THis was when I had the cingular firmware, and got it unlocked. Right now flashed on 5.51 unbranded
