This thread is for all discussion related to Smartphones and PDA's for Cingular. This thread is here so everyone can keep the stickys for the phones about just that, the phones, their features, and their functions. This is not here to suppress or over moderate the forum, its here in the interest of keeping this organized and hopefully making is easier for those that are looking to discuss device functions instread of sifting throught pages and pages of hearsay and speculation. Lets try this for a while and see if it works for everyone.

Please title your posts as to what device you're posting about. I will keep a list of the current devices that havent been released so you all can keep track.

So as a recap for the Treo 680, there are 3 pending release dates.

1. 11/5 or 11/6
2. Q2-07
3. Also heard rumblings of 11/29 in the forums

Just so we're all on the same page. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think thats pretty much assumed at this point. Different people hear different things, and this thread is for those that would like to share what they've heard. He might call it a "pending release date", you might call it some random number out of thin air. Whatever the case is, lets just share what we've heard through the grapevine and not hold everyone to some unreasonable burden of proof over a public forum on the interweb.

Everyone in here is free to believe what you want to believe in here, no more, no less.

You are absolutely correct, these are guessed release dates. However, they are in fact pending, as we won't know for sure if they are valid (or invalid) until they come and pass.

Perhaps I would have been more correct to say: Here is my combined list of guessed release dates that may or may not be valid.

there are slated release dates for many phones. there was documents with upcoming cingular phones and their release dates.

for the ones i'm looking for, they are in my sig. for the treo 680 which isn't in my sig but on that thread if you search for it. slated release date is Nov. 2 or 5th i think.

8525 missed is orig release date of oct. 5th and now everything from tomorrow till Feb. has been rumored

I wonder why the CING ppl are such Drama Queens. If you can't release a phone in a said release date, then send out a freakin press release or something. So that ppl can plan in peace about what they want to do with upgrades or exchanges.

Personally I love my SX66. Wonder if anyone could build a hardware addon for 3g Connectivity. Wonder if that is even a possibility. I would love it !

Then again, maybe I will get my source in Taiwan to buy a big lot of Tytns in a great price and resell them if CING does not release this soon. hmmmmm ...

Absolute latest information I have received:

Just spoke to my local Cingular Corp Store; (yes the one who said that they weren't getting the 680)
This lady told me that the Treo 680 and 750 are on the November Price Sheet. She didn't have any information on release for either but quoted me on the 680 with a 2-year contract. ($304 with $100 rebate)

She said that they get shipments every day but Saturday and Sunday, they arrive in the morning and have them ready to sell by the afternoon.

This is the first I've [personally] heard Cingular admit that the device exists. Therefore I am extremely excited.

I was in a Cingular store yesterday to see if they had a demo of the 6925 that I could mess around with and on the shelf with an empty space was the info for the 8525. It had all the spec's for the phone but no phone on display. The funny thing is that the rep there did not even realize that the display was up when I brought it to his attention. Furthering my belief that your average Cingular store employee is utterly clueless as to what is or not being released by their own company.

Has there ever been an "official" press release from Cingular indicating a date? I may be wrong but it seems all of the proposed launch date info has been leaked and not official announced by Cingular.

I am as frustrated as most on this site since I want a new phone and the wait is killing me.

Their logic for not giving a release date is most likely to not deter sales of their existing phones such as the 8125. The less people know or hear about this phone, the more likely they'll be to go out an purchase an existing phone.

any deterence of sales just results in more sales later on. i'd say that unlike some of us they realize that:

a) new phones are just PHONES (not cures for cancer). there are plenty of good phones already out there that get your email, internet, and communication fix on and no one is going to die if it takes a little longer to get a reasonably bug-free device shipped.

I think another important thing to note is that "we" are not really the desired market for most of their phones. 98% of their customer base has no clue how bluetooth works, what wifi on their phone can really be used for, what locked and unlocked means. They don't even know what that the Treo 680 exists and they won't until their current phone breaks or their IT staff walks in and hands them one.

Most smartphone buyers get one so they can have their IT staff set it up so they can read email while waiting in traffic or sitting in the lobby at the airport.

Us enthusiasts are a VERY small portion of the market and Cingular knows this. No one other than us gives a crap what version of bluetooth it has.

While I'm certain Cingular is aware of these forums and is kept posted on rumors and leaks, they aren't concerned with us. We don't affect them at all. They follow their processes just like you do in your line of work. And I honestly don't blame them.

Vodafone has a 3 month exclusive on the Treo 750, so we won't see it sold on Cingular until at least December (if the 3 months started in Sept.) No one really knows if that exclusive applies to North America or not, but I haven't seen any substantial evidence that it'll show up sooner. And despite Quatre's wishing 1000 times a day that it will be here on Nov 7th, it ain't gunna happen for this reason alone.
Just as 8525 release dates bring up memories of 8125 delays, the Treo 750 exclusive brings back memories of how the Treo 650 was exclusive to Sprint when it launched in Nov, and we didn't see it on Cingular 'til Feb/March. Ditto with the exclusive 700W on Verizon (and sprint didn't get it unti the end of the exclusive period.)
But this December date could be as little as 6 weeks away at the earliest. A launch on Cingular in Jan at the latest (educated guess.) So I'll hold off on getting an unlocked Vofafone when I should be able to get it for half the price through premiere.
Here's to hoping I'm 100% wrong.

Ancker makes a valid observation. Should cingular care......probably not. Most smart phone/ pda users are corporate horrors anyway. JK.

Honestly though, i was told to wait, and im ready for one NOW. Im really digging that 11-05 release date. But until i see some advertisements. im not getting my hopes up.

But My point is IF WE KNOW WHEN THE DAMN THING SHIPS, THEN WE CAN PLAN ACCORDINGLY. If any of yous work for Cingular, PLEASE give us a solid date. Not encrypted messages or hidden messages. Just a DAMN DATE !

I walked in to a Cingular store today, asked the rep "do you have release date on the 8525, 680, or the 750?" and you should have seen his face. He had no idea what i was saying. His response "what's that". I said "they are phones" and left.

It's so funny the difference in knowledge from one rep to another.

What about the Motorola Q? I know it is exclusive to Verizon at this point - has Cingular whispered anything about if they ever plan to get their hands on it?

Currently I'm a Treo 650 owner and have had it with the device for 100 different reasons.

Right now I'm really hoping to switch to a really sleek/slim non-PDA phone that still offers email and has a basic calendar system... if I can't find that I'm hoping Cingular gets the Q since it is at least much slimmer than the hulking Treo.

I don't know. When the Q came out there was talk about the Q 'starting trials by the end of the year' for GSM/UMTS. But based on the lack of news about it, I'd say it's going ot be quite some time before we see an actual release (some time next year at the earliest?)
If you like the Q, you should get the Samsung i607. It's nearly identical what the Q should be like and available very soon.
The Q isn't for me. I was pretty jazzed about it at first. But it's taller and wider than the treo and doesn't fit in my pocket as well. I prefer the smaller but thicker Treo. Treo is also heavier (Q and i607 lighter.)
Also after having had a 8125 for a few weeks, I've realized that I don't want WM smartphone edition. I want the full phone edition for touch screens.
But if you're in to the Q, then I would be eyeing that i607. The other great thing about the Q is the 320x240 landscape screen whereas the Treo is 240x240 square.

Or, check out the Nokia E62. People have nothing but great things to say about.

wising a 100 times a day for the treo 750 to come out on nov. 7th? i have the slated release date for that phone in my sig and i think its more like the 9th. the treo 680 which i dont have listed cus i'm not interested in it was slated for nov. 2 or around there i think.

i still think they may do a treo 680, cing 8525 release this week or next. followed by samsung blackjack smartphone later in the month.

treo 750 will prob be dec. despited slated release date of whatever my sig says.

after i have 8525 ppc phone with wifi and blackjack smartphone i wont care need or want the treo 750 with no wifi anymore prob anyway so you got me wrong on wishing for that phone.

mostly just want the blackjack to replace my Q but no rush as i have 3g data with the Q until it does and 8525 htc hermes to replace my 6700 htc apache which will just have a few mnor upgrades over that device like 802.11g wifi but again i have the 6700 which i use through wifi now so no reall rush on that either i guess.

then prob replace my v3i with a krzr or something.

i just get antsy for the new devices and annoyed with their delays and falling so behind vzw and other carriers. because as much as i hate all of them i tend to hate vzw more even then cing and just feel like cing sucks so unexusably bad about phone releases and vzw beats them (like with the krzr for a recent example) all the time now by many months.

and its just that cing is the only gsm carrier with 3g for me so i want them to be better and do better but they just suck. in other words i'm rooting for them at least phone wise and they just let me down so its frustrating becaue i've had to use vzw who i hate for over a year now for 3g data waiting for cing to get it and now they have it all the areas i'm in but have like one crappy lg 3g non smart non ppc phone.

they need to get their act together and quick.

well it might have helped if you said the make of the phone not just the model. i know we talke about model #'s on forums all the time and are too lazy to repeat the make cus we know it but if you just walk into a store and say a bunch of #'s there is a chance they wont know.

i mean they should cus there is only one make upcoming with that model # but yeah ppl just too often just say themodel # and by now there has been repeated model #'s so its semi important when inquiring like that to just take the extra mili second to say cingular 8525 and treo 750

its funny though that you just walked out, i mean you should have clued the guy in so he act like he knows to the next customer but i've done that too where i see the rep knows zilch and dont have the patience to school him while hes getting paid and i'm giving free tutorials to aid him in his job.

there was rumor that gsm would get a Q with wifi but haven't heard any moe news on that and its obviously still a ways off as there is know prospective date or anything like that.

Cingular is getting the Samsung i607/Blackjack which is a Q like thin smartphone and that slated release date is in my sig though some are thinking/hoping sooner as its been in testers hands.

its better then the Q in a couple ways but said so far to prob not have wifi like its overseas vesion the i600 as cing prob took it out thining they can force cusotmer to get expensive data plan.

meanwhile tmob released the htc excalibur as the dash which is a Q like thin smartphone and it has wifi. which is probabl in part to make up for fact that tmob doens't have 3g data. so that leaves spring i guess and cing that dont have a Q like smartphone

knowing cing, sprint will prob beat them too and cing will be the last to have everything.

anyway point to you is if you want a Q like smartphone on cing then you will have a long time wiating for gsm q which may not even be on cing or who knows. but samsung blackjack should be coming soon with slated release date of nov. 18th or whatever my sig says and its been in testers hands so some are hoping/thinking sooner.

8525 and treo 680 will mostl likely be coming before it though

I called my local Cingular Corp store again today. (Today I got the lady that once swore that Cingular would never get the 680) Today she also confirmed that the 680 and 750 are on the pricing sheet. She also volunteered some other noteworthy information.

1. The pricelist is active 11/5. This means they can "Officially" sell it on this day.
2. They can sell it to me PRIOR to 11/5 if a shipment is received and put into inventory tomorrow. (I told them I was going to travel)
3. Sometimes phones will show up on a pricelist months before they receive a shipment. But usually not.

When combined with my previous conversation with a different lady, I can derive that IF they are to be released on 11/5 they MUST get the shipment tomorrow. I asked this lady if I could possibly purchase it early because I would be travelling. She said that as long as they get it scanned into inventory, she could sell it to me.

SO. I intend to call back tomorrow afternoon (they said they get shipments in the morning and have them inventoried by afternoon). (I also don't trust the lady to call me) IF they have them and I get to purchase it I will post pictures and information ASAP.

So yet again, I'm hoping they get a shipment in tomorrow that I can buy and a widespread release on the 5th.

Hopefully my information is useful to some of you.

Yeah, you gotta get lucky with a good rep if you really want to know whats going on, and just based on experience i can tell you, "on average" male reps are more Knowledgable. I work with a bunch of girls, and i probably know more about phones then all combined, with the exception of one. And compared to some of the people on this forum, they are even more behind.

Overseas: why do they get all the cooler stuff.........bigger engines, better phones, increased technology? I guess its the timezones......jk

Before, when I clicked on the link, I always got redirected to the 8125, now it goes to the 8525.

doesn't work. Will calling cing after hours and trying to order it now get me anywhere? I dont want to wait for it to ship though only for it to arrive in store before i receive it in the mail.

guess i'll call store tomorrow and tell them to call me when its in, but they usually agree to that and then never do.

I'vew surfed this forum for a while but had never posted anything till now. I figured i'd post my $0.02....

I went to two different stores "looking around" for phones. I was talking to one of the guys about the new phones being released and he told me to not get anything and wait to get the 8525 because he's pretty sure it's coming out no later than Nov 15th. So that's pretty much 2 weeks. He said it could come be in as soon as this coming monday, but he's almost certain it will be out sometime before the middle of the month.. He was pretty helpful.

Then I called another store and I asked the guy how come it said online it was available but we couldn't get it (I didn't expect him to know the answer but wanted to hear his response). He put me on hold and called some corporate sales dept and they told him that there was a planned release date of the 17th, but could very well be released before then.

To sum it up looks like we have a window of about 2 weeks. It could come out this weekend, next week, or the week after. I want the damn phone and even have a premier site account but I don't think anyone's premier site will have it before the other IMO.

its cool, there I updated my sig with the date for the izar/v3xx of dec. 9th instead of just saying dec.
not that it matters because it wont come out that day on time anyway but that is why i like posting them. partly to let ppl know and remind me but als to see what the orig slated release date was/is and then see how long after that it actually comes out.

some have a chance of coming out on time or even early then that slated release date but will surprise me

the only date that has happened already was oct. 5th for the 8525 which didnt' happen but is supposed to be in the next week or 2. they really should release it nov. 5th for just a month late. that wouldn't be as bad. last year was the worst when 8125 was spposed to be out this time of year when sprint and vzw already had their superior versions with 3g data while 8125 wasn't and then on top of being inferior didnt' come out untiil Feb. was a total disgrace. Feb. were talking 5 months after sprint.

anyway the only semi important date i dont have is for the Treo 680 cus i dont care about it but now that it is soon its worth following to see if it actually happens

Palm/Treo 680(Nitro)...Nov 2nd

and it didn't happen, heh. so that doesnt' bode well for these other upcoming release dates. unless they held the treo 680 to release on the 5th or something with the 8525 for a simulaneous release of a palm os and wm5 device. there was rumors of a simultaneous releae but thought it was the treo 750 but dont see that happenign and competing against eachother so i assumed maybe it ws supposed to be the 680

bottom line is so far only 2 of those release in my sig and i mentioned have come and gone. oct 5th for the 8525 and yesterday nov. 2 for the treo 680. we'll see how much after slated releae each actually launches.

i talked to the local cingular friend / rep yesterday, and he told me he was strongly assured by the samsung rep on 26-0ct that the i607 would be at the local store ( portland, or ) "within two weeks". he got to play with the phone for an hour or so, and said it's a very slick phone. very fast, thin, easy to use. he currently has an 8125 and also has an 8525 on order that he's won via sales promo, and says he'll actually purchase the i607, and switch away from the 8125 / 8525 because it was that good...

So i think those dates jive with what everyone else has been saying... We will see, however.

I just got off the phone with my sale rep in the Cingular store. She called to tell me that she got to play with a 8525 at a product training yesterday and that she was assured that the 8525 will be in the store in 2 weeks.

I wanted to get the 8525 but I think I will wait until both the 750 and the 8525 are out at the same time to try them out side by side. I was told by a good friend of mine (who beta tests devices for Cingular) that the 750 should be out before the holidays. However other people are saying later, so I am not so sure.

I have a feeling that the Blackjack, 8525 and 680 will all be released on 11/13. There have been so many reports of simultaneous launches of 3G devices, and many people have been getting launch dates of 11/12 and 11/13 for the Blackjack and 8525.

I was told, first half (beginning of November, by an ANS supervisor) to expect the 8525. He even told me that it is not in stone as they want to make sure the release is near flawless. There may still be bugs/kinks, but they want it to be minimal. As for the treo 680 and 750, I have yet to ask about them. Here also informed me that there will be 3G phone(s), either 1 to 3 coming out in November, if things go right since the lg cu500 is the only 3G device out now.

I just have so much trouble believing release dates that store reps give out. I remember last year around this time a store rep telling me the 8125 would be out in a month. (We all know how that turned out.) Jump ahead to last month when a store rep assured me the 8525 would be out in a few weeks. Needless to say, I'm not waiting around this time. Already enjoying 3G speed on my TyTN.

cu500 isn't the only 3g phone out... Samsung has a phone out, zx20 I believe... it's in stores.

Oh and "fits 8525/8500" is on the 8125 case packaging being sold in stores.

As I stated earlier, I was told about the same thing from the 2 reps I talked to here in the Houston area. I read on here several posts with similar dates, so to me it seems that things are becoming a bit more clearer as far as release dates go. Well in that case, the zx-10 is still out, as I know a store that still carries it. It is what is left over, that is what is being sold. The replacement is the a707 also known as the "Cingular Sync." No one bought the zx-20 as everyone wanted the almost razr like look of the cu 500 and also antenna being internal.

Samsung zx20 has been discontinued due to over heating battery problems. Stores may have some left but once they are out, they are gone...

Treo 680 was originally due Nov. 2nd which didnt happen so that is a push back to 11/20 though i dont care about that device. That looks good for the Pear as the early info i had was no particular date but just late nov. early dec. but dont care about that device either but the thread is about all pda/smartphone releases so yeah and plus you never know when you could later become interesed in a handset you weren't originally and vice versa.

That is original relase date for the black jack of 11/16 so thats nice the lates info has it on schedule.

We all know original relase date for the 8525 was Oct. 5th so Nov. 5th (today though a sunday) was one of the orig rumors and would have been nice, even mon nov. 6th but 3 days before the blackjack is fine and better then, then later.

Treo 750 was Nov. 9th (as stated in my sig) so pushed back indefinately to TBA is disappointing for those waiting for that especially those waiting to compare it to 8525 before making a decision but i say screw that.

i think a lot of the 680 info got confused with the 750 though i really thought 680 would be first and the simultaneious launch of 8525 and a treo i thought would be the 680 as it was due soner and makes more sense as one is palm and one is wm to give both choices.

but looks like simultaneous is the BB pearl and blackjack which kind of compete since the thin Q like smartphones have gone after the Blackberry a little with scroll wheel (though tmob dash touch senstive scroll only works for volume as it was too buggy to be used for scrolling) but i guess in the end BB pearl and blackjack are still somewhat diff.

8525 coming just 3 days early makes it almost simultaneous but good that they bring that asap as its already a month late and ppl are flipping out and it seems to be the most in demand at least on the thread with poll asking which pda/smartphone are you waiting for which is worth noting here considering the topic.

second most wanted seems to be the Treo 750 though sadly enough for those wanting it now that its TBA with no date or even window.

and third most wanted pda/smartphone is the blackjack. so at least 2 of the 3 top most wanted will be out soon, mid Nov.

i have looked, i've seen the powerpoints that were released and still get anything OFFICIAL...perhaps i am looking in the wrong place but i'd love to know if cingular is getting the crimson or the arctic, for some reason the color would make me look at the phone more rather than that dull graphite...i hate everything about palm and windows together so the 680 works for me...

I have come to the conclusion that NO ONE at Cingular know what's going on! As with a lot of you guys I am anxiously waiting for the new Treo to be released and was hoping that Nov. 5th would be the date, it seems that's not the case.

However, I was at the mall on Saturday and stoped by two Cingular authorized dealer kiosks; the first one said the Treo would not be out until Decemeber or January. The second actually had one!!! I asked the guy and he said they had receieved 3 of them on Friday and had just sold out, all he had was the non working demo to show me. He said that they came in and were fully Cingular branded. So I went to the Cingular store and they said that that could not be true, and when I told the guy there that it was branded he laughed and said those authorized dealers get it from another source and just put the cingular sticker on it! Any idiot would know that the branding is not just a simple Cingular sticker not to mention the preloaded cingular software. All I know is that the guy at the mall said they may be getting a new shipment this week and I will be there to try and get the new Cingular Treo before anyone at Cingular knows it's out!

I’m curious why these are all Sunday's that everyone’s quoting. Hasn’t it been the case in the past where devices have shown up on the website on Monday morning or Monday afternoon? Maybe I'm wrong, but I can’t recall a device that was released on a Sunday.

You have to ask yourself, an agent dealer in a kiosk in some mall gets them, but no one else in Cingular, including major sales channels like retail, web, and business channels can order them yet? the Graphite will be the only one sold in the stores... if you want the clolors you will have to buy the un-locked versions on Palm's web site.

I think that is a huge mistake on Cingular's part.. I know there are a lot of people wanting the colors and the fact that it is a more entry level Palm device makes me think that the colors would only increase sales. Maybe they want to release the graphite as a business device and then release the colors later to generate more sales down the road. I'm not a palm user and never will be but I can see the draw for fun palm devices.. my $0.02..

Palm made this announcement when they debuted the phone, "Carriers get Graphite, We sell unlocked colors."

If the color of your phone is THAT big of a selling point for you, you're probably not looking at the right type of phone.

That said, I want a white one, but won't pay for an unlocked one just to get it.

this is a pda/smartphone discussion not relegated to discussion about one of a device...and yes color is important to my decision, i have 650 right now so spare me your idea about color influencing my purchase, the whole idea behind this color scheme is to have a device thats personalized to ones own personality/tastes etc...

i'm looking at the right device, i know the palm works for me and my uses, could i use a regular phone yes, would it suffice sure, could i hook up with the 8525 and make use of its capabilities, absolutely...but the idea is i was hoping to find something a little more personalized...so please, when i said color might influence my purchase, the answer is a resounding yes...its odd and even i don't truly understand why i think it, but i like the idea of palm coming out with something that appeals to a larger market, a way to get the palm into the hands of the common user...

no antenna is truly what interests me and the new menu layout...when i said i was looking at colors, what i wanted was a response about the release schedule, not some snide remark about how i should be looking at a different phone

Just a little info on Cingular and their release dates. If the release date falls on a Sunday and sometimes a Saturday it is a pacifying release date. Meaning that the device will not be released on this date! I have been dealing with Cingular for some time now and this is the way its been for a couple of years. I have never seen a device released over the weekend.

I am trying to figure this one out as well. Typically B2B has had these first (at least a few days before), but not sure with this release. I must say that Thursday is an interesting date for release.

Can anyone confirm prices? I've heard $449 w/2 year and $50 rebate taking it down to $399 after rebate. Premier might have better discounts depending on your corporate deals with Cingular, but my experience is that Premier discount at least with my company are pretty much the same as new-2 year service prices.

Basically, it sounds like the 8525 is $100 more than the 8125 w/2 year new service pricing...i.e. $449 for 8525 and $349 for 8125 before rebates. Of course, the 8125 has a $100 rebate but its already nearly a year out of date! 8125 still a good choice for many given only incremental improvements in the 8525 (i.e. 3G, 400mhz CPU, wheel, camera, etc).

Many here have the Premier site due to their company. And yes, no one has proved to have successfully ordered the device yet. Keep a lookout though, it should be any day. I personally don't believe that Cingular will release this device over the net on the same day as they will in the stores, so I expect that we'll see it on Premier a few days earlier.

You have to be using 3G to do data and voice simultaneously.

Well it looks like the rumored Nov 5/6/7 release dates ended up being false as far as the Treo 680 is concerned.

The local Corp Store is beginning to recognize my voice when I call everyday.

I guess the next round or rumored dates are the 16th and 17th, right?

The 8125 was released on Feb 6th for Business/Premier customers, and on the 9th for everyone else. So, the 8500/8525 should be released on Nov 13th for Business/Premier, right?

the past doesn't always translate perfectly into the future. So, who knows. It might show up on select premier accounts early or not til the 16th.

According to my local store manager, the 16th is a solid release date for the Blackjack (she just returned from the big Cingular 3g rollout meeting).

I hope cingular is planning a massive press release detailing the release dates for the Treo 680, 750, blackjack, and whatever else we're waiting for

Interestingly, Patrick over at justanothermobilemonday just received his eval unit and the production ROM version is v1.34. This is the same ROM that we've been testing which has a reported battery drain issue with Goodlink and others. It's a stable ROM though so Cingular must have decided the issue wasn't a show stopper. Looks like market pressures won out on the release date though. Perhaps HTC couldn't commit to a fix in the timeframe Cingular required. I was kind of hoping I'd get my hands on an improved ROM soon....

I used that ROM for a while on my TyTN, and my experiences were similar to what everyone else experienced. Basically, very stable (most stable I used and I used all WWE versions) with no today plugins but the battery drained too quickly. When the ROM was released on xda it was stated that this was the shipping version of the Cingular ROM from a VERY RELIABLE SOURCE. I suspected long ago that the reported 1.4x Cingular ROM would include PTT before we got our hands on it. We'll see.....

Dunno if anyone else gets it, now that some of the hubbub's dying down and all, but after the other night:

started referring me to a [broken] page that apparently was intended to be the 8125 page. I tried it the other night (to get the pretty picture to print out to show someone), but got redirected to some terse maintenance page that complained that I didn't have privilege to access the page; then a little later, the [non-functional] 8125 redirect started. Just a curiousity...

They were probably getting tired of getting calls from customers referring them to this page that said Avaliable now so they pulled it.

Even the www.cingular.com/8525 mentioned in the 8525 Press Release is still not avaliable. One would think they would at least put up a page for marketing purposes that says coming soon (Tmobile did this with the Dash and Verizon did it with the Q), put your email address here to be notified once avaliable or something.

Thats Cingular for you..keep everyone in the dark until it shows up in the stores.

I stopped by my local Cingular store tonight to find out what they knew about the 8525 release, and they said "we heard by Christmas". I told them that the press release on Cingular's own website said the 16th. They had no idea, and proceeded to tell me that they probably wouldn't have it that day, but a few weeks from them. Time to find a different store

Corporate Cingular store here told me Treo 680 is "sometime this month". The guy in the store was nice enough to call someone (his supervisor I assume) to ask while I was there.

Has anyone confirmed if you have to activate a $40 data plan for the full rebate?

Similar experience here - I'll be in San Jose next week, so called a couple of Cingular stores just for grins. None of them know about the release date and all were either a) unaware of the phone completely or b) knew about it but had no idea of a release date.

Somehow that makes me think 11/16 will be the premier date and NOT the in-store date

Maybe Fry's or Best Buy will actually have stock on 11/16?

I don't know why people insist on going to their corporate stores to ask about phone release dates. Odds are you could go back the next day, ask the same person the same question and get an entirely different date. Those of you who were around for that monstrous 8525 thread know what I'm talking about.

Because now that Cingular's own website has a press release with the 11/16 date, one would reasonably expect that the stores would have been informed by now. But then since this *IS* Cingular, "reasonably" need not apply.

It works the other way around. FCC clears the device.
The FCC releases information as per the Freedom of Information act. However, Palm can request confidentiality for certain aspects of the approval request.
This is from the actual request:
"It is our understanding that all measurement test reports, FCC ID label format and correspondent during certification review
process cannot be granted as confidential documents and those information will be available for public review once the grant of
equipment authorization is issued."

After reading through all that garbage it looks as though ther was some information not included in their test reports. FCC says some of the required tests did not show information regarding the non camera version. Palm says it did. Looks like they have a pissing match going right now.

I read that as well. However I noticed that the correspondence regarding the non-camera version is dated back in August. The test documents mention the non-camera version several times with test results. I think the "pissing match" was over in August.

The Treo 680 has gained full FCC approval. At this point it is fully up to Palm/Cingular to release the phone.

I guess I have to add a release date in my post in order to keep it from being deleted.

I hope the Treo 750 comes out before 11/22/06. A lot of dates are pointing to/around that time frame. I was originally thinking about getting the 8525 to hold me over a bit (and to experience the power of 3G) but if the Treo 750 is really coming out soon, then it'll be more hassle than its worth.

okay guys i went to a cingular store here in Hawaii and well i know most of the gurls there and they had the 680 dummy phone behind the counter...my friend said that last week they had a meeting with the palm distributor and well she told me its looking like the 750 will be around the beginning of Dec...also she told me that with the new devices coming out we need to change our sim to the 3G sim...which she did for me...and we need the unlimited data plan for 39.99...there is a new data plan out with unlimited data and 1000 text for aobut 44.00....just letting you all know...hope this helps...
ohh i had asked her about the rebates on the new phones and low and behold she brought out the rebate form that has been floating around here...the blackjack is exclusive for cingular...dunno she told me that its named blackjack due to that the cingular dudes name is jack...go figure...all i know is that i like going in there from time to time cause my friend and her workers are hunnies...

I do not have a Cingular Biz account so can’t check to see if you can really order. But figure at least of few of you who do have a biz account with Cing can give it a shot. It's going to be a big week. Cingular 8525 gets released Thursday and Windows Vista gets released on Friday (MSDN and Technet subscribers). Now if I can only get them to work together. Also Office 2007 gets released tomorrow.

Don't forget the BlackJack!! It has been pretty much confirmed for the 16th, but I asked a guy over at BoyGeniusReport who says he has direct word from Samsung it is being launched Monday. If so, this has to break a record for the quickest Cingular has ever launched a phone. Look here:

While I'm not upset with Cingular, I'm growing more and more frustrated. I have an ailing V551 that requires I use either Bluetooth or the speakerphone to make a call. My job requires I be on call. Having a faulty phone makes it difficult in the event I'm paged.

I've been eying a Treo650 for some time now. Upon hearing about the Treo680 I decided to wait it out. Having seen the first pictures several months and and the Oct12 announcement, I'm becoming increasingly frustrated that I cannot buy this phone.

I believe the latest released dates I've heard are Nov16/17 or Nov 20/21. I'm hoping for the former, obviously.

Pardon my rant.
