Say I get a car, can i just remove the old stereo and put the new one in? I don't care about amps, subs or better speakers just yet. How do the wire connections work?

Depending on the car, you would purchase a wire harness. That would snap right into the old harness of your car, and you can just solder or snap the cables on the opposite side to the ones coming from ur stereo and that's all.

I found a wiring harness (big plug to small wires) but I cannot solder. How else can i attach the wires from the harness to the wires on the stereo? Twist together and tape or plastic cover? How much would futureshop charge to remove and install?

Crutchfield.com has excellent adapters specifically for your car that you can just snap in and you're done

Im not sure how much they would charge, but a local stereo shop would do it for around 20-30 dollars. U can just tie it with a plastic cap or something.

Telling us what vehicle it is would help us out to give you any advice. Wiring the harness up is probably the easiest thing you can do as long as you are not color blind. All it is, is matching colors. No need to soldier anything, just get some white caps, or blue butts, and you can do it pretty easily. Some vehicles require some small specific attention when it comes to wiring to make it work properly. Basically i dont hook up any illumination or anything like that with most decks either.

blue caps work good, but if all u have is electrical tape, go for it, works for me.

Awww, the old twist and tape. Well for the cost of the blue butt connectors or the white caps i would get em and use em. If you plan on expanding later, spend the little bit on a better head unit. A good system starts in one place, the head unit. Put your money in your amps and head unit first.
