Ok I know this is going to sound like that I am death to phones but I am not. I take very good care of them and have had two phones mess up on me in a very short period of time. First a few weeks ago the backlight on my siemens s66 went out and I called cingular and sent it in for a warranty exchange no problem except they don't stock the s66 anymore so they sent me a samsung d807 that I love the looks and features it has and is probably a better phone than the s66. However when I first got it I was looking at some reviews on the internet and noticed that a lot of people had had trouble with the screen cracking for no reason. I noted this in my mind and was as careful with the phone and screen as I could be but one day I put the phone in my pocket and took it out about 30 minutes later and the screen was cracked. In that thirty minutes I did not jog or anything either I was sitting at my computer typing up a lab report for my physics class so it did not get bumped of smashed or anything like that. I called cingular exchange again and sit on the phone for 45 minutes on hold most of the time because they can't figure out where I got the d807 from because according to their system they didn't send it out and he ends up telling me that I can't exchange it because it is "physical damage". Has anyone had a similar experience and could give me any advice. I like the phone but am not sure even if they would exchange it if I would want another one since the one I have broke so suddenly and quickly for no reason.

I feel your pain, I was in a similar situation back when the RAZR was new. I had one from the initial batch that had the OS problem and Cingular replaced it no problem. But a couple of days later one of the side buttons broke off the replacement because of a manufacturer defect, and Cingular gave me that same "physical damage" BS. I luckily was working with a Moto service rep that ended up getting the phone fixed anyways. So here's my suggestion in your case: (1) try contacting Samsung directly, explain your situation and maybe someone can help you (2) I don't know how well you know someone at a Cingular store, but sometimes you can get some extra help from a rep (3) as a last resort I would consider writing a letter to either/both the CEO of Samsung and Cingular (I ran into another problem with my RAZR and a letter to Moto rectified the situation). Good luck!
