A707, Music Player Quirks

After playing with the A707 for a couple of days, I have found problems with the music player that I hadn't noticed originally.

First, I have the music on a microsd card. Each album is in its own subfolder under the music folder. Originally, the card had been in another phone. When I realized I was having problems, I reformated the card in the PC and then filled the card again. No change. Also, I have been filling the card with a USB card reader until I get a cable for the phone.

Ok, problem #1, on one album, one song doesn't appear when you list by album or artist. The track is magically gone.

Problem #2, the last folder in the music folder (alphabetically) doesn't get read when you list by artist or album.

Solutions/workarounds:
Problem #1 - I wound up re-ripping the album several times with different settings until finally the missing track showed up. Not sure why or how or what but for now that problem is fixed.

Problem #2 - I created a folder named ZZZ and put a dummy mp3 called ZZZ.mp3. I editted the mp3 tags to reflect the same. Now this becomes the last folder alphabetically and doesn't show up in the album list but the last real album does.

I did get a phone with the pink dot so this one of the "fixed" phones. Sound quality is very good. The W810i I had snapped and crackled between tracks but it didn't hide or bypass tracks!

I am planning on giving Cingular a call on this today. Hopefully it is just a firmware fix. Otherwise, I am very pleased with this phone.

Eagle, at least your phone recognized the artist/album names. Mine didn't even do that unless the music was Windows DRM. I tried just dragging and dropping AAC files into the music folder and it would ultimately only display the song title with no artist or album name. I would then try the feature that is supposed to pull this information up....and it would always come back as "unknown".

I then tried this whole process over again with the music re-encoded as MP3.....with the same results. It seems (at least for me), the only time the phone recognizes the whole artist/album information is when the music is transferred as a WMA file. Since I have a Mac at home, that puts me at a great disadvantage unless I want to lug all my cd's to work and re-record them. Honestly, it's a pain.

Between the music player, and the problems I'm having with the picture formatting, I've just decided to return it to Cingular. I liked the looks of this phone, but it's performance in the areas I mentioned above were disappointing.
