not sure if this is the right forum, because i cant figure out if the mda is made by qtek or htc. tmobile mda, qtek 9100, or whatever it's called, i'm supposed to be getting one next week. this one is supposed to be locked to cingular. i want to unlock it and i've read that you can do an imei unlock. will that unbrand the phone? will i be able to use my tmobile sim card, or will i HAVE to do a cable flash? if i can do a imei unlock does anyone recommend any sites that are inexpensive?

The MDA is made by HTC and it is known by many names: HTC "Wizard", Imate KJam, Cingular 8125, T-Mobile MDA, etc.
It can be both SIM and APP unlocked using your PC. To SIM unlock an MDA you need to flash to a very old version of the T-Mobile firmware, run an unlocking app, then you can reflash to the newest version. When you reflash to a new version you can use unbranded software or the T-Mobile software, your choice. You can get the newest version right off T-Mobile's website.
Once it is SIM unlocked you can use a SIM from any other carrier (GSM based carrier of course).

read the forum rules, "unlocking" is not allowed to discuss in here; otherwise, you will get banned

So once you have your wizard unlocked can you just go straight to T-mobiles website and do a device upgrade of the mda onto the 8125 which will flash it??

Go to xda-developers.com and ask the same question.
