The honeymoon is over w P990

Like many here, I'm not exactly thrilled w the kernel panics and restarts on my new P990i. The symptoms took a few days after purchase to surface and now they've come on strong. I have intentionally avoided loading her up with lots of media and such hoping to avoid what others have reported. Unfortunately it made no difference.

Swiss Manager seems to help but I'm guessing a new firmware is what will be needed to effect meaningful change.

Bummer.

I love the phone but have considered throwing it against a wall on a few occasions.

Not trashing the phone, just not thrilled with the performance. Which, in all honesty, is fair.

I've been using Swiss Manager religiously but to no avail. Kernel panics seem to be increasing in frequency.

Looking forward to a firmware.

I am contemplating trading mine for a Treo 650. I'll lose in "written spec" but gain in "usable spec".

Afer less than a week I had to switch to my last phone, I almost threw my P990 to the wall I've decided to sell it and stop hoping for a miracle from sony ericsson. The major problem with the phone is the small RAM. I mean how can they put 62 MB of RAM when the operating system and the basic application take 80% or more of it, son when you open 3 or more applications you have so little ram that anything will make the system collapse. And this phone is soooooo slow, anytime you run anything it will take forever, feels like an old computer, and the only way you can make it faster is to leave open the applications that you use most (like contacts) but you can't, don't have the RAM!!!

I just regret buying this phone, but I guess I couldn't have known if I hadn't bought it.....
I will stay with samsung, all my previous phones have been samsungs.

The best of luck to the ones wating for a fix, I truly hope they get fixed but I won't be around waiting for it....

cheers

Historically SE has done right by me. I've owned every one of the Pxxx series phones and have loved them all. The P990 was just released prematurely. Sure, I'm bummed about performance straight out of the box but I'm confident the firmware upgrade will make it right.

I hope I don't regret saying these nice things about SE.

The P910 was the best phone at the time of release in terms of form factor and usability. The p990 is lagging behind. I have the phone and try to love it, but it's hard to with the poor menu layout and constant KERN and restarts. The only thing I love about the phone now is it's looks. Other than that UIQ really needs to be fixed.

my phone is actually really stable...yea i dont open too many big software programs at the same time but thats a small sacrifice....it restarts maybe once a week if that for me...i dont even really use swiss manager all too much...
