Samsung A707

Does anyone know how to download an image from the web via the browser (or otherwise) without it degrading the image. For instance, I'm trying to download a 1024x768 image that is 500kb - when the browser downloads and saves it, it is degraded to 3k (presumably to save bandwidth).

I'd like to be able to download these in full quality.

Considering that many wallpaper delivery services actually link you directly to their images, it'd stink to have the phone degrading the image quality of a wallpaper you paid for (not that I do, but still).

Am I missing something?

Wow, I really hope the lack of replies after 100 views doesn't mean there is no way to do this. That would be a really disappointing answer.

I think you are getting a lot of views because yout thread is only titled Samsung A707. I have no answer for you but read the thread as I have an A707; I would not have read your thread if your title had been clearer as to what your question is. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine when thread titles give no indication of the true topic.

I edited the title of the post immediately after posting it when noticing I had left off the rest of the details. If you look, the title of my original post is "Samsung A707 - Downloading Images", but it won't show that in the post list. Not sure why.

Are you using the native browser or Opera?

I've tried both. As I mentioned, the in-phone browser resamples and downgrades the image for viewing in the browser, if you want to save it, you save the degraded copy.

Opera intelligently gives options when directly linking to an image.. download in native size, screen fit, or a few other options. However, when one of these, it hands off to the 707 browser for it's "download" function - which once again does the same thing that if I had linked directly w/o using Opera at all.

I can't find any setting for handling the images in the browser. There should be a setting that says "do not resample/optimize images when downloading/linking directly" or something of the kind. If there is, I can't find anything.

I haven't broken out the manual, but I guess I should. This is an incredibly annoying situation. I hope it's my stupidity and not Samsung's/Cingular's.

I may be wrong, but this may actually be common to many regular phones. I haven't downloaded many pictures on any of my phones other than my E62 which does just fine.
