I'm torn

So I'm gonna be upgrading this weekend and I'm torn between the SE W810i and the SYNC A707. I'm hearing great things about both and like any phone both have their dowsides but which one is better overall that will give me CLEAR calls (with no buzzing like my RAZR) and will give me the best RF, etc?

Also is the 30 day return policy part of the ugrade as well or is that just for first time customers??

i'm all about the w810i unless you want 3g...and if you want 3g the lg is the better bet but only by a nose...the w810i gets even more awesome once you unbrand it...

i've never had any luck with any samsungs, but all the SE's I have ever used have been great!!! I went from a s710 -> w600i-> D807 -> w810i

the rf and earpiece volumes on the SE's have dominated the samsung.

the w810i for sure

unless you need or desire cingular video, the w810i will do everything better...its a sony, so music is def going to be richer...2 mp camera on a sony vs samsung...def sony...unbrand it you can get pop3 e-mail, much better choice

Mazzel....i like everything about the w810i except the earpiece volume...incredibly low....and i have an unlocked that i have done OTA updates and still too low.
Anyway, i've been thinking of going with the 707 or 500. Played with both @ a Cingular store and noticed that the sound quality of the 707 was one of the best i have experienced with a Cingular Ph (of course my opinion!). I did experience some of the volume fluctuation with the 500 that several have posted about....when the person on the other end starts speaking, they come off low then increase as they speak....strange but i did catch that during test calls.
What has your experience been?
The music & video stuff is secondary to me....Thanks for you opinion!

various little nicknacks about the cu500 annoy me, such as not being able to see both the name and number in the contact list, like nokia or samsung allows...not going to affect me that much though, an extra button press isn't a deal breaker...with that extra button press in mind though, my biggest and only real annoyance with the cu500 is the three steps it takes to send a text...that gets me annoyed but still the texting is easy and responsive

regarding the a707...nice phone, but the cingular video was not nearly as crisp and clear like i said earlier, i was not too fond of the large screen when it wasn't put to full use for the video...having such a beautiful screen with 3g promotion should be intertwined, it wasn't and that was part of the reason for purchase...but again not a deal breaker

i do not have any volume fluctuation on the cu500 and aside from the earpiece being one of the loudest i have ever used...i find the sound quality to be superb compared to motorola or most recently my treo which sounds awful...

personally, i think the cu500 is a better buy...price isn't of course a concern because they are same cost after the rebate so naturally thats not something to consider

i think the w810i is the best all around phone, ASIDE from volume difficulty...i think sony has and will always have the best camera interlaced with a cellphone...those images are awesome...i think sony's menu system is also the best available, its intuitive, responsive and easy to find your away around, its the apple of cell phones...i could easy live with edge, to me cingular video is just an excuse to spend more time with my phone...

if i could mix the volume with the cu500 on the w810i...i wouldn't hesitate to fall in love with the w810i all over again...

of the three contenders..i still think you can't go wrong with either one, but the best bang for the buck is cu500 and like i said, i have not experienced anything but top notch calling with it and no volume fluctation

Have both.

I prefer the a707. Music sounds no better on either but the player on the W810i is better. The a707s player is still a bit buggy, maybe a firmware fix will help.

Both have great rf and sound except the earpiece volume in the W810i is unacceptable in every place except the quiet indoors. Anywhere else, it is hard or impossible to hear.

As for the camera, both are ok, neither is great.

Thanks again...one last thing on the 500...some have claimed it gets hot after a few minutes of use like cdma phones....have you noticed this? I'm talking more from nornal call activity than video.

getting hot while charging but not HOT, but def warm...as for being on calls...i've noticed it but once...and that after a 75 minute phone call...this has been said by numerous people and although i've noticed it, it hasn't been noticeable enough to stick out for me...still with that in mind, still would take it over the other choices

What are you talking about?

When you highlight a name in the phonebook on the CU500 the number shows on the bottom status bar. Take another look, you will see it.

uhhhhh yeah....i'm always dialing from memory, so yeah...i feel as stupid as a sprint customer right now...

still the nuisance of three steps to text annoys me...but not a deal breaker and tolerable...but it still irritates me, i'll think i sent the message but i didn't because i'm so used to moto or samsung or verizons lg where one step to type and one step to pick contact and send...

I really miss my w810i...cause it's a cool phone, but I had a heck of a time finding one I could hear out of. After debranding, it got worse , then it got better than ever . Then I sold it to buy my z710i, that has a fine earpiece. I have a HoFo member holding a w810i for me, but I am hesitant only because I am afraid of being disappointed again by the earpiece volume vs. what I have now, which works great. But then again, some people say they have no problems at all with the w810i's earpiece...but most have a hard time with it. Aside from the volume glitch...it's a great phone!

No experience with the Samsung, but previous experience with the brand has been poor RF and shoddy build quality.

Just my 2-cents.

3G just started up in my area and I haven't made that many calls, but I can say that it gets warm when browsing the internet. It is a little alarming when you are used to GSM phones, but it's no like it's so hot that you can't hold it.

For those who have the call volume problems on the w810i, I think that it's a problem with the branded version. When I got my unbranded model and updated to the latest firmware, I had no problems at all with the volume.
