Hello,
I am looking to get a Treo 650 or Treo 700wx CDMA for the Bell Network. I would prefer to stay with the Palm OS as opposed to Windows Mobile so would prefer the Treo 650 however want to know if I can get WiFi connections using a WiFi SD Card like Socket P300 Go Wi-Fi or the like. Or am I out of luck and need to go with Windows Mobile for WiFi connections via WiFi SD cards?

Can someone please advise as it would help me greatly in my decision.

Thanks kindly

No, you can't add wifi via an SD card to a Palm OS Treo. There is a product called the Enfora sled that your Treo can snap into that will give it wifi access, but it will make your Treo both huge and ugly, and it's limited to the speed of the multiconnector which seems to cap out around 55KB/sec. Also I don't think it supports WPA.

There's new software out from a company based in Montreal that allows you to run Palm Applications on Windows Mobile. It also utilizes full functionality of all the phones devices. Get the 700wx and your wifi will work with an SD Card (I had the same question in a previous thread and this was answered). Read about the mentioned software here:

Enjoy

Great thanks for the advise....
I saw the Enfora and was worried that that might be the only WiFi solution for Treo 650... so nothing else will work eh?

I'll look more into the software as well,,, if I can get all my Palm based applications to work in Windows Mobile I'll be a real happy camper.

Any other solutions people can offer?
This is a real help!
Thanks guys!

Well there WAS a Treo 650 Wifi SD card hack but it no longer works and appeared to screw up some people's Treos.

Id rather have the Palm OS with EDGE then a Windows Mobile device with WIFI. Look at the Treo 700p if you want faster internet, EvDO!

PS: does the wifi sled really cap of at 55?

I don't know from firsthand experience, but that's what several reviews I read said. It connects via the multiconnector, which is quite slow compared to newer USB 2.0 devices.

You can't use SDIO wifi cards on the Treos. You can use the wifi sled thing.

There has been talk of using hacked SDIO wifi drivers for the Treo but it was buggy and didn't work well.
