V3i or a w810i.

lol thanks what about the sync or the v3r?

Posted by: wahoo2dore

i have the sync. i like it, but i'm half tempted to return it for a w810i. i would definitely get the sync over the razr if i were you, and here's why:

- it's cheaper
- 3g
- better camera
- better keypad
- roughly the same footprint

Yea Im not really a fan of motorola's anyway....why is the w810 better than the sync?

Posted by: wahoo2dore

not necessarily better...just different (and ymmv).

i went back and forth about the candybar aspect of the se phones. i'm not a huge fan of a brick in my pocket, and i rarely ever wear my phone on my belt. so, because of that, i liked the idea of the thinner clamshell. setting the key lock can be annoying, and that is obviously not an issue with the sync. but as to the device-specific issues:

- the se w810 syncs out of the box with osx. as a macbook owner who is used to syncing my calendar and address book all the time, i am afraid will really miss this feature.

- the sync has an annoying "feature" with the keypad. unless you set the phone to vibrate/silent, the directional pad and keys will make a noise when you press them. this is ridiculously annoying, and i can't find anything in the settings that will let me disable this feature. i know on my t637, there is no sound made while going through menus or pressing the keys...and i assume it's the same on the w810i.

- music and fm radio. the w810 has fm radio. the sync doesn't. given the choice, i'd rather have the radio (for local sportstalk) than access to xm radio (available on the sync). i won't use the cingular video or music store features, so the 3g speed with regards to music is a non-issue for me. i already have a nano, and there is a really cool product called the nanotune (by dlo) that will turn add fm radio and a bunch of other things if i want. however, i bring my phone everywhere, and the same cannot be said about my nano. if i slap a 2gb or 4gb memory stick in the w810, i'll probably only use my nano at the gym.

now, the sync is a really cool phone. this is what it has going for it:
- i loooooooooove the 3g speed. it's ridiculously faster than my old web access on the t637, which didn't have edge. pulling up my gmail and yahoo mail is very quick and easy.

- i like the speakerphone. very clear. i have also not had any problems with earpiece volume (something which apparently is an issue on the w810i).

- keypad is large, and very easy to text on. i found it to be much better than the cingular 3125 and razr.

- footprint is pretty small (about the same size as the razr), and is comfortable in my pocket. i think the w810i is a little thicker than my old t637, so that's a knock against the se phone. one thing to note about the clamshell - i find it harder to flip open than the razr. ymmv.

i think that about sums it all up. if i think of anything else i'll let you know.

oh one other thing, and this is minor (just another annoyance)...

with the sync, you don't get jack squat - just the phone and a charger. how friggin' lame to not ship with a set of headphones? the sync uses the same adaptor as the d807, which is only 5 bucks or so online...but you still need to go out and pick it up/order it, whereas with the w810i, you get the adaptor (i think it's the fm receiver) and a set of in-ear headphones.

there's also a post somewhere on here about the sync doesn't come with a usb cable, but the manual says it's included. i have a feeling that cingular won't be too receptive about any complaints about that though.

Wow that is a lot of information thanks for the help I think im gunna get the w810i

disregard the keypad beeping comment. there is a way to turn it off, i just missed that setting when i was scrolling through the options.

The only thing that kept me from getting a w810 is the earpiece volume. That has to be the most ANNOYING thing ever on a cellphone, when you can't hear the person.
