I am ready to buy a htc tytn, but I was wondering if someone could help me answer a few questions for me. I will be using cingular's 3g umts network for this phone, but does anyone know if all the high end features will work, such as the video telephony feature? My friend and I are going to get two of these so we want to be able use this feature! Also does anyone know the true compatibility of this phone with cingular's network? I read somewhere that CV TV will not work on this phone, is that true? I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me! Thanks!

so far early reviews have said that cingular video does not work on the 8525 but as if it makes a difference, cingular pda package do not include cingular video or messaging, so you wouldn't have that feature anyway technically. as far as cingular live video chat goes they don't support that it looks like the next thing they might support is video messaging which is only a one way message it will be a while before the video call is available. Probably already have bought a new phone by time that happens anyways. if you go to some places in Europe it may work and since the tytn is a world phone is should work there as well

You can however still do video calling using other software such as Skype, and MS Portriat(netmeeting) software... Other software tiltles are around too. Also can do video chat over the WIFI option too.

Are you saying 'you can' as in you've been successful in using the Tytn's front camera this way? Or have you 'heard'?

Can anyone else confirm that Skype can video call with the Tytn over WiFi?

I don't know if skype can video call, but i am more interested in knowing you can video call using the phones software over the UMTS network.

Skype for Windows Mobile doesn't have video function, only voice and text. It doesn't matter what the phone is. Maybe the next version will add it.

Contrary to popular belief Cingular's network does support video teleconferencing. This is directly from a Cingular Network Engineer and the lead person on the ericsson team responsible for the build out of the 3G network. They have already demonstrated that it is capable at numerous meetings.

So I am adding a new housing which is going to have the hole on the faceplate for conference camera. I am also addding the camera lens for it. Now I use a cingular 8525. Can I use the VGA camera to take pics or what do I need to make it work? TIA

you would need to reflash to get the camera in the front working
