Screensaver formats?

For some time now i have been creating screensavers in the samsung 240x320 string. These have all been rendered in GIF format.
My question for all the phone tekies here is this..."What formats can a screen saver be in other than GIF? Can 3gp or 3g2 be used as a screensaver?"
Please let me know if there are more options than just GIF.
