BIS and Hosted Exchange (1&1) - Anyone?

Hi,

Trying to set up my T-Mobile Blackberry Pearl BIS to use the Hosted Exchange service I use from 1&1 (www.1and1.com).

I can't seem to find the right settings to enter for the following fields BIS wants:
1. Outlook™ Web Access URL:
(e.g. http://exchange.domainname.com/exchange)
This is the web page address you use to retrieve your company's e-mail using an Internet browser.
2. E-mail Address:
3. E-mail account Name:
4. User Name: (e.g. bob or domain\bob)
5. Password (Outlook or network login password):

Anyone here successfully using 1&1 Hosted Exchange with BIS?

I do not believe 1&1 has a BES as they do not offer a Blackberry option for customers. I want to use the OWA option for BIS as that would not require me to have my desktop computer on 24/7.

Thanks!

Does your host offer BES service as well? If so, that would be the better route....

I use 1and1 for hosting (web services / email) and their service is great! A shame they don't offer BES/BIS services...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700r: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/107)

Just a thought but can you forward your 1&1 emails to your blackberry email address? If yes, you could then edit the Reply To address from the BIS setup.

Yeah, I was on 1and1.com for my hosted exchange email, but ended up bring it in house because they couldn't do the BES part of it.

I gave up on 1 and 1 because of Blackberry. When I was working in the US, I found the alternatives to Blackberry as good (if not better) than the "real McCoy." The problem is once you start working outside the US, you take a mega hit on the cost of international roaming. Blackberry international plans include the GPRS. Others do do not. Many carriers reset your download clock every time a new request is made. Thus, I could being paying $15 per megabyte to roam, and get hit for a new $15 every time a new request is made, some companies treat multiple requests within a short period as a single request, but others do not. Thus you could get hit with $50 or more a day for roaming in some countries.

The original poster asked whether anyone has used their Blackberry account to pull from 1 and 1's OWA access as a work around. The answer to this question is that I spent about three hours trying to pulll that off, but couldn't. That was a year ago, however, and both Exchange Server and Blackberry have their programs in the last year.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the replies. I tried for about 1 hour to get BIS to work with 1and1's OWA... no luck.

I emailed 1&1, but their tech support is only ok. They said they don't support Blackberry with their hosted exchange, but I'm pretty sure they are thinking in terms of BES.

Finally, the blackberry has an IMAP option and 1&1 provides IMAP access to hosted exchange accounts. Has anyone tried this? What's the user experience like using BIS/IMAP to handle email on your Blackberry?

Thanks!

You can use BIS with 1and1. Simply enter your email username such as "m4014014-username@1and1.com" and it works. The BIS automatically configure it as IMAP using SSL. However, they do "poll" -- every 15 minutes, though.
