Hey,

I currently work for an agent of cingular wireless, I am the store manager.. fun stuff. I just got hired for a corporate location, and will be going to data training as of december 4th, which btw sounds like so much fun. Ive been reading about the situations within a corporate store... I want to kinda give everyone an idea as to why im going to a corporate store. I currently work for an Agent who i will not name. Here are some of the reasons why I am quiting. 1. The sell refurbs as new phone, also sell unlocked phones(usually refurbs) to new/upgrading cingular customers.(un-ethical) 2yr agreements 2. Franchise = no job security. 3. Paycheck is always short some kinda of amount, but we cannot figure our commision checks out because of the 200 different excel spreadsheets with commision calculaters 4. Company policies are un-ethical, such as feature slamming ( free promos ALWAYS go onto a new/upgrade ect. ) "Call in and take them off after 31 days, we cannot take them off right now POS will not let us." Yes it is alot more laid back, my store does around per month 60 new 120 upgrades 10 pyp and 15pg around 2100 in features. Thats around the average. As a store manager Im barelly breaking 21k a year with commission. Cingular offered me for my past sales experience 23k to store 1500$ increase every 6 months and a whole bunch more. I am in love with the fact I will get a COU line, I will just keep my old sim card in my old phone and hope that wont get shut off. I just hope I get a blackberry (8700c) or 3125 either and I will be happy. I will have one job and not be stuck managing 3 stores and only getting payed for 1. I am getting sick because of the stress my current employer is putting me under. I cannot wait to work for corporate, I will have job security, a free phone, nice benefits, and a decent paycheck. Plus after a year they will help pay for school. I will be alot happier only having 1 job and that being to sell instead of having 20 and getting scared because I am only one person and cannot multitask that much.

So I am greatful that I will have a job within Corporate Cingular. (I just hope I passed my piss test)

Okay so yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat. But I'm not getting hosed on the pay nearly as bad as you...Glad to see you're getting out of that.

I look at it this way at the agent I'm with...

At Cingular, there's a corporate ladder to climb.

At this agent location I got like...a corporate step stool. And I've already taken that step up to being a store manager. If it weren't for a couple of misdemeanors on my record I would have bailed and gone into a COR location long ago. Just gotta wait until I can get the last one expunged from my record...

feature slamming unethical? sure it is.. but do you think you're going to get away from that working for corp? Read the threads, its still prevalent in corp. In fact, you'll see a new beast in feature flipping (which i'm assuming is being fixed right now) good luck with that.

Selling used/refurbished phones IS unethical only if the person selling the phones is selling it as new. Best buy sells open box items all the time. Is that unethical? Hardly. I just think you used a poor choice of words...

Selling refurbs such as razor refurb unlocked phones as new in fact is unethical. The company tells you to tell the consumer nothing of it being a refurb.. Feature slamming I was told by the corporate manager it will get you terminated.. Which im sure it will. Feature slamming in my eyes as far as what my agent does is : media max 200 on account, take off, put back on same feature: corp stores do something different I may be wrong but it was just what I was told. Their is alot more reasons for why im quiting I just blew off a few reasons that came to mind. I mean, you goto work everyday and see your friends and employees that work for you being screwed, some people that work for me have a family to feed.. and Im sorry but It really just gets under my skin. It in my eyes is not something I look forward to doing each and every day..

Yes I used a poor choice of words and you are right their is nothing wrong with that, but they mark it as a open box item, my agent tells you its "NEW!!!"

Yea i think you will like the pay at a corporate store a lot more. I am a PTRSC and I make into the 20,000 range easily and I work about 25 hours a week.

Corporate pay is so much better. My soon to be asm was agent for 12 years. He's making now, as a rep, as much as he was making running a franchise.

Not all dealers are created equal. Some become jaded and run their businesses in the manner you describe, but others run it better than corporate stores. Slamming is just a part of the business. That's the way it is. Even Corp slams, and some Corps slam harder than any dealer you're likely to meet.

Corp pay is awesome. As an entry level job there is pretty much nowhere you can make more money than cingular.

Yeah as an agent, I'm gonna pull down around 45k this year...if I was in COR I'd likely be closer to 60...So I'm ready to get the hell out of the agent world.
