Someone sent me a ringtone via bluetooth. How do I set it as my ringtone?

Posted by: yournamehere

if it's in the proper format, it will automaticaly go into the ringtone folder. if it's not the proper format then you're sol.

wat is the proper format?, because i need help 2

Ringtones can be either MP3 or WAV format (MP3 preferred for size and sound quality) and no longer than 30 seconds.

Also, you MUST set your phone to download to the phones memory, not on your SD card. If the ringtone is stored on your SD card, it will not be able to transfer to your phone, therefor not showing up as a ringtone.

TO BLUETOOTH RINGTONES TO THE i880:

Set your default downloads to the phone's memory:

Settings > Memory Card > Store Media > On Phone

You can always switch back to the SD Card later by performing the same function.

Wallpapers and videos you can store to the card and transfer to the phone's memory later, if you wish. Ringtones is the only exception.

Hope this solves your problem and have a great day!

Not ringtones. Wallpapers, yes.

OK, I am now going to ask the stupid question (because I have been looking for an answer for a while now with limited success)

How can you load ringtones w/o Webjal?

I have had it in the past ( I used it to upload tones to the i870) but that last several time I have tried, I could not connect.

I have been spoiled with my i580, as I can assign directly from the card.

( I will still search for my answer, so don't flame me too bad )

Like I mentioned above .... BLUETOOTH them in but have the ringtones download directly into the i880's memory, not on the SD Card.

I tried that, but when I go to send the file, it says file too large. I may just need to review my BT procedure.

* ( I was able however after many trial & errors to upload tones to the new phone.) I would still like to know how(if) to upload w/o Webjal.

Anyone have experience with the commercial software widely available from E-bay ? I had great success with Mobile Phone Tolls with non iden phones in the past.

So is there someone who knows why my phone doesnt connect to my pc with my usb dongle.

well i have tried the bluetooth method of putting a mp3 and wallpaper on my phone. they both show up in the media center. the wallpaper doesn't have an option to set it as a wallpaper and doesn't showup in the wallpaper list. the mp3 doesn't showup in the ringtone section either.

the wallpaper is set to the right size 176 x220. the mp3 is at 8000 32bit and only 20 sec long.

any ideas what i did wrong??

it's being done on an i880 that was nextel and i activated on boost. is there something that i need to do to the phone because it was a nextel? did alot of searching and didn't see anything special that had to be done...but i might have missed something.

not completely new to messing with phones...but this is a first with this phone and nextel/boost. if someone can point me in the right direction...dont' mind reading...lol

How to make a MP3 Ringtone

A good Program for getting the settings of an mp3 right so the phone will see it.

Cool Edit

http://www.idilis.ro/downloads/file/cepsetup.exe

this is only a trial version..but you can edit 60 sec long files for 21 days more than enough to make a good ringtone..

Instructions

open up Cool Edit. Go to File-->Open as and find your Mp3 file and open it up. when the little pop up menu comes up pick a sample rate of 8000, channels mono, resolution 32 bit (float) out of the list.

Pick the portion of the song that you want to use as a ringtone. Highlight all sections before that portion and delete them by just hitting the Delete button on your keyboard. Do the same for the part of the song after the portion you want to use. A portion should be around 20-30 seconds but can be longer or shorter if you choose.

Now that you have your shortened MP3, Go to File-->Save As.

Change the file name to whatever you wish, but make sure the "Save as type" is mp3PRO (Fhg) (*.mp3).

Now make sure the box next to "Save extra non-audio information" is not checked.

Next hit "Options" in the lower right.

Change the "Maximum Bandwidth" to 4000Hz. The "CBR Bitrate" should be either 32 or 48. The higher the number, the bigger the file size and better the quality. It must be a multiple of 16 although.

Make sure the "Codec" is Fast Codec (High Quality). The "Set 'Private' Bit" and "Set 'Original' Bit" boxes should both be checked. The "Set 'Copyright' Bit" should not be checked. Your "Padding" should be ISO Padding.

Then if you'd like you can make a sort of template for this configuration by putting in a file name up top where it says "Presets" and picking "Add". This is useful for the next time that you change the properties of a wav so that you just hit enter instead of changing anything.

Hit "Ok" once you have changed the properties and Cool Edit will change the file.

Now hit "Save" to save the MP3.

*Optinal- Lower the amplitude of the WAV file by Using the Amplitude-->Amplify command and making the dB value negative. This will make the ringtone sound better on your phone.

You now have a ringtone

There now everyone can have a ringtone without alot of run around.....lol

this is posted on here already and winlame is quicker and easier to do it with

Posted by: rastinmajera

well now it's in two places....maybe it will be easier for people to find it with the search...when it's in two places.....and now it's under a title that should make it easier to find...
should be a sticky in the boost and nextel section...
just an idea

Posted by: onnan

for i880 it's actually Constant Bit Rate 64 kbps.

once you transfer the audio files with bluetooth, you should go to Menu>Ringtones> and then you'll find them there
