Figured I might as well start this off asap...I just picked my new 8525 up and setting everything up as we speak. It seems to be so much faster then my 8125. I am gonna give some updates on the the comparison just as soon as I get time to really compare....Good luck and please post any info that might be helpful!!!!!

I heard another guy complain that his Tytn made a ticking noise.

Posted by: strikeIII

here's a link to a thread on how to get Cingular Video to work on the 8525...
Note: this will only work if you have a MediaMax package not a PDA package.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1040274

Posted by: Isriam

for those who dont want to click the link

Quote:
Download and install "RealPlayer for Pocket PC 1.1 Preview Release" from here:
http://www.real.com/realmobile/down...0PC%2520Devices

In RealPlayer on the TyTn, got to Options>>Preferences>>Network and change the type to 802.11B

In IE (on the TyTn) point your browser to: cingularvideo.cingular.com

Then simply click a link, it will ask you to download a file, check the "Open file after download" box and click yes.

That's it.

As some of you have discovered, you might be able to get it to work on the TyTN/8525 with a MediaMax plan, using wap.cingular, and the Cingular proxy server.

Those of us on PDAConnect will not be able to get it to work...

Posted by: jglev

I thought I read that if you have the PDA plan, you can still configure the device to use the wap settings. Has anyone with PDA connect tried setting up the wap server and then trying this with Cingular Video?

Posted by: elushon

Yeah I've got PDA connect on mine, and you can configure to connect through wap.cingular....I actually keep mine set that way because most people I demo Media Net to would prefer seeing the media net home page as generally they're not taking a PDA device.

does spb weather and spb pocket plus work on this like the 8125? no need for smartskey anymore right?

my tytn is on its way, but from what ive read, you still may need somehting to actually close apps and not just leave them running in background, i could be wrong

Posted by: 100thMonkey

pocketplus provides the close function, but I actually don't use any real closer on my TyTN for 3 months now....on the rare need I have to close a proggy, I just do Start-Settings-System-Memory-Running Programs, and close. It runs great honestly with PocketInformant, Activesync, Calculator, ListPro, Email, Notes, Verichat, and Skype all running at the same time...sometimes Camera and Pics and Vids too....I don't do much multimedia though

Anyone know how to receive/send a fax with this phone, or know of a software app that I can download onto my 8525 to make it possible?

Thanks!

go to Programs
then to File Explorer
click on the menu tab on the top left and go to the folder that has your media files and copy or cut then paste them into your storage card...

you might want to invest in a program like Resco Explorer it's definitely a lot better program plus it comes with a registry editor that might come in handy when people fine some hacks or tweaks for the 8525...

Posted by: southkingpin

yea resco does come in handy for many things such a a closer for all the progs open hogging up cpu speed.

You may have already figured this out, but just in case:

GO TO: today, settings, personal, sounds & notificatioins. select the notifications tab. under events, go through all of the messaging events and unselect vibrate and play sound check boxes for the ones you do not want to be notified about.

Sim: GO TO: today, programs, sim manager. In sim manager click menu, select all, save to contacts.
That should work.

Yes that did work...........but now i have a list of contacts that are saved to my phone, and a list of contact that are saved to my sim so i have double contacts on my phone.

I tried setting up my 8525 as a modem and followed all the instructions on cingular.com. When I try to initiate the session, I get an error message saying "End data call first". Not sure what that means. Anybody seen this error before. Thanks.

Anyone know of program that could work as a switch to turn on of off access to medianet? I just got an 8525 but i did not get the PDA plan, I mainly use the wifi for internet connections. Occasionally I will need to send a photo to an email address , on my previous phone i just used medianet and paid based on how much i sent (again not very much). Is there an easy to set this up so when i need to connect and use medianet and send it via MMS I can, and then have be able to turn it back off so that if i fire up IE it uses the wifi and not the pay by the kilobite serivce?
Thanks
Jamie

your 8525 had an active data call. Press and hold the RED END KEY for 3-5 seconds to end the data call and try again.

Ok - here's an issue I haven't seen fixed yet. I've just gotten my 8525 and wanted to use Bluetooth to connect to Activesync. I went out and bought an IOGear Bluetooth USB dongle - installed the software and things went well. I set up the pairing without a problem. I also setup the tether to a laptop using bluetooth - which also works well.

I then tried setting up the relationship to be used with activesync 4.2 and nothing worked. I ugraded to ActiveSync 4.5 as another forum identied it may work better.

So here's what I've got so far -

On my PC:
Active Sync 4.5
Connection is allowed via USB, Allow connections to one of the following: is checked. Com Port 6 is identified.
Automatic is in the drop down
Open activesync when my device connects is checked

On my 8525 under the pairing relationship with my laptop:
Serial Port is checked
Dial Up Networking is checked
Hands Free is unchecked (don't want to use my Laptop as a speaker or mic)
In connection settings, Com Ports: Incoming Port is COM 9, my Laptop is identified as COM8. (I tried setting it to Com6 but it says it's not available on the 8525)

When I start Activesync on the laptop, I see bluetooth connect on the laptop to the 8525. I then click on Connect and I get a window that pops up called Serial Port:

"The Bluetooth serial port COM6 is now configured to connect to the device ( 8525 Named ). The application that will use this connection must be configured to use COM6. The application may be started at any time."

Does anyone have a step by step configuration for bluetooth and activesync available? I've now been messing with this thing for a week to try and get it to work, but nada. The only way I can connect and sync is through InfraRed... the USB cable doesn't even find the damn thing.

And it works!

I tried copying it to Programs but could only launch it within the Windows folder with Resco File Explorer.

what does that do ?

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

Field test tells you what your transmission power is (your actual reception), which tower you are on, what band. THis FT also tells if you are on amr-hr or full rate, gprs/edge data, 3g blah blah blah, HSDPA blah blah blah haha

anyone know where to get the last version of verichat that was released?

even though this is for Nokia phones, this program is similar to the field test on the 8525
Link

Posted by: stpete111

Would someone mind sending or posting the fieldtest app? I have the HTC Tytn and it does not appear to be included. It must be included with Cingular ROM's only.

Thanks!

I don't like this thread it is way to convaluted with material that is A for the older phone or B irrelevent material period... I am trying to start another one that has 4 specific questions..

Posted by: jmk32

I'm close to getting an 8525 and was wondering if there are any great sites similar to Ringerpost for trying out great apps (mobitv, etc) and games for this Cingular phone (I'm pretty sure the apps are not compatible from RP).

Found some great stuff for my Sprint phone on RP and would love to know if I could find similar stuff if I go with this Cingular phone.

Thanks!

Couple quick questions on the 8525:

1) How can you record a call? (I tried opening notes and recording, but it stopped as soon as I went back to my phone screen)

2) How to send pix taken by the phone. When you preview the pix the left softkey is 'send', and gives you the option to send via Outlook, Hotmail, etc., but none work. I have Good software and use the Good Outlook connection, not the native Outlook, does that have something to do with it? But hotmail doesn't work either. I have yet to receive anything I've tried sending that way.

Appreciate the help...

Posted by: Jumpie

Ok, so I deleted proxy settings now I can get the link back. Can someone help???

Here's my step process since I can't screen capture...

Start>Settings>Connections>Connections Icon> Under My ISP, I don't have "Edit my proxy settings". I think I deleted the original. IS there any way to add proxy settings to My ISP?

I'd hate to have to hard reset after re-installing everything...

8525, and most PPC with similar hardware limitations, cannot record phone calls by software on the phone.

Posted by: Wrangler3383

The 8525 only has a few programs out for it that record calls. Even then, as the above poster said, the hardware has limitations. You need to have the phone on speaker for the program to even pick up the voice of the person on the other end.

I would like you to contradict, but no softwares that I have tested, which include most still-alive recording softwares, can record phone calls, even if speaker phone is on, due to hardware limitations.

Google PTTFIX.

Worked for me. Reassigned PTT button to activate voice command.
