Cingular 8525: Tips/Tricks/Hacks/Downloads

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: RulinSmoove

You know I was going to do it.

This is it, the place for everything 8525. Anything new specifically for the 8525 should go here... but since its a WM5 Pocket PC device, most of the items listed in the Cingular 8125: Tips/Tricks/Hacks/Downloads should work also.

Lets do it up cuuuuuuuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Posted by: bubblebz

**Subscribed** this is my first PDA phone so let's see what i can learn with it.

What was wrong with the first Tips/Tricks/Hacks thread?

It was entitled "Tips/Ticks/Hacks/Downloads" Thread.

Ah yes, so that means we needed to start another thread?

Posted by: crownline

I am purchasing the phone on Monday, anyone know if I will be able to receive/send faxes to/from the 8525? I have never owned a pda phone before so I am new to it, but not new to technology. If I can receive faxes with this phone via additional software or whatever, I will be EXTREMELY happy.

Thanks for helping out guys!!!

Posted by: berdinkerdickle

Would anyone be offended If we could ask .7 to merge these 2 Threads?

Posted by: crownline

no please do!!!

Posted by: dstar2002

how about just deleting this one as its all pointless thus far, and im just adding too it

Posted by: xbox360gamer

thread bookmarked. I just received my 8525 but I havent had a chance to play with it yet.

by the way, does anyone know where that hack is to enable the PTT feature on the 8525?

you need to wait until cingular releases the software for it.

no, there's someone who posted a link to a site that has hacked software that enables the PTT function on the phone.

Posted by: crownline

whats "PTT"?

Posted by: Heinrich

Push To Tinkle

oops

I mean Push To Talk

Posted by: up2nogd420

PPT= push to talk

Posted by: up2nogd420

I got to play with one of these today, just had a few questions for anyone who might have first hand knowledge....

Can you download google earth on this thing?

is it GPS capable?

Can you watch tv on it?

Thanks!

Posted by: TriAxis

If there is a way to enable PTT, then it would be on this website. In the Hermes thread somewhere.
XDA Developers

Posted by: skylandsguy

Just posted this on the "ticks" thread so this may seem like dejavu all over again...
Does anyone know how to save data or media files directly to the micro card (of the 8525) or to set the micro card up as a default place to store synched data?

Posted by: gravejoker

The generic name is now PoC ... Push to talk over Cellular ..

it doesn't enable PTT it just allows you to make use of the button until cingular comes out with PTT for the 8525...basically someone just found a way to reroute the button so you can use it for any application...i think there are still some bugs with the hach though...read more, here is the direct link to the thread....

i responded to this on the other thread...
go to Programs
then to File Explorer
click on the menu tab on the top left and go to the folder that has your media files and copy or cut then paste them into your storage card...

you might want to invest in a program like Resco Explorer it's definitely a lot better program plus it comes with a registry editor that might come in handy when people fine some hacks or tweaks for the 8525...

Posted by: strikeIII

and i guess i'll repost this hear just in case someone want to configure thier 8525 for Cingular Video...

Download and install "RealPlayer for Pocket PC 1.1 Preview Release" from here:
http://www.real.com/realmobile/down...0PC%2520Devices

In RealPlayer on the TyTn, got to Options>>Preferences>>Network and change the type to 802.11B

In IE (on the TyTn) point your browser to: cingularvideo.cingular.com

Then simply click a link, it will ask you to download a file, check the "Open file after download" box and click yes.

That's it.

As some of you have discovered, you might be able to get it to work on the TyTN/8525 with a MediaMax plan, using wap.cingular, and the Cingular proxy server.

Those of us on PDAConnect will not be able to get it to work...

Posted by: KeithKman

Ok, I have a question. I connect to my home network no problem. When I try and use the internet it uses the Cingular network. How do I have it use my home network? Thanks.

you might have to disable the cingular proxy...i could be wrong...

do you guys know if the 4 way navigation button works on IE or do we still have to enable that in the registry...

under settings go to Connections
then select Connections again
at the bottom there should be an advanced tab
click on Select Networks
where it says "Prgrams that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:"
then in the pull down menu set it to "My ISP"

i don't think you have to mess with proxy settings...if this doesn't work then i'm not to sure...

Linksys.

I don't think the router is the problem. Works fine. The 8525 sees it no problem. As soon as I open IE, it connects to the cingular network.

I loaded about 30 or so songs on a 2gb micro sd and plugged it into my 8525. when I go to the media player it doesnt recognize these files and I have added them to my library like 3 times and it still wont play nothing or show nothing but the sounds already loaded on the phone. Any suggestions?

Posted by: index2

Looking to move my email to SD card (not just attachments) anyone have reg hack(s) for that?

Posted by: emcdemc

When someone successfully tethers the 8525, please post. I just tried but it does not seem to be working. I don't know if I have to work around something because I don't have a "laptop connect" plan.

EDIT: Tried PDAnet and that din't work either. Tried the generic HTC Modem driver as well and couldn't get it to work.

Posted by: timbal

Has anyone tried to install anything as yet, such as emulators? I tried PocketNester and PocketSNES, but no dice. Thinking maybe I just got bad files, I went to something more reputable, in this case the Yahoo Go! IM file, but that gave me the same error. I even went to Microsoft's site and got their free version of Invaders that they're offering, but even that doesn't work. I keep getting the "<FILE NAME> is not a valid Pocket PC application" error for everything....

Just odd.....

Posted by: emcdemc

Doesn't that mean u have to install it to your ppc w/ activesync and a comp?

I BT tethered mine today no problem. I have a USB/BT dondle that works great. Has a wizard that set it up in flash. So, is does work. Used us it on my 8125 as well.

Whats everyone using for Gmail settings? My 8125 configuration doesn't seem to be working...I can receive but not send (says "messages cannot be downloaded to your device blah blah blah") Any ideas?

Hmmm. I have MEdiaMax200. I wonder what it's malfunction is.

Posted by: princeasi

The enabled manual network selection hack that worked for the 8125 doesn't work for the 8525. Whenever i try to select the 2nd tower it says "unable to register on selected network. Choose another network, or disconnect your data connection and try again" and yes ive tried disconnecting my data but still no go, does anyone have a solution to this???

Go to Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Networks. Change the first drop down to Media Net. You should then be able to go to the regular MediaNet wap page and also to the url posted for Cingular Video. If you have the RealPlayer installed it should play once you change the network setting in RealPlayer to wifi.

Yes, I have gotten that reaction quite a bit. Allow me to explain. This is a tradition that started with my friends about 2 yrs ago. In fact, this will be our 3rd consecutive year going. It is the day before thanksgiving, and its just a great time. Yes, there are turkey testicles, and they're battered and fried like popcorn chicken. I don't really like them. But there is copious amounts of alcohol to be had for fairly cheap, and I believe there will be about 15-20 of my closest friends in attendence. Its guaranteed to be a good night

To get back on track, has anyone here done OpenDNS? Did I just miss the post? Are there any security concerns I should have about it? For example, if I sign into my email or something, can the people that run these DNS servers see my login info?

Posted by: importluva

also - is there a way to change the behavior of the scroll wheel while on the today screen? On my 8215, the side slider would adjust the volume. Also, holding down the Comm Manager button would switch to/from vibrate only mode. My 8525 does neither of these.

Yeah! I was wondering the same thing....its a lot harder to switch to Vibe now, the fastest method I've found is hitting the comm manager button and then scrolling to the vibe button, its a PITA though.

From the user manual:
To: Adjust the ringer
Do: Tap the VOLUME ICON or slide the VOLUME KEY up or down

WTF? what VOLUME KEY?!?

Posted by: kb8qko

I've been successful installing the following on my 8525:

Missing Sync for Windows Mobile Version 3.0.0 (315)
Skype Version: 2.1.0.65 Release date: October 5, 2006
Google Maps (no sat image support - says can't display JPGs???)
Gmail for mobile

I'm having a bit of trouble using the 8525 as a bluetooth modem for my MacBook Pro, but did get it to connect with a WinXP-based laptop.

I have an IOGear USB/BT dondle (comes with it's own wizards) so not much help for you there. But you might want to take a look at the 8525 manual http://www.htcamerica.net/support/d...User_Manual.pdf page 109, Section 6.6 "Using Wireless Modem". It covers a walk through on doing the tether. Also, if I recall somewhere on the Cingular site there is an FAQ on doing a tether. Hope this helps.

Posted by: pcmike

The instructions in the manual WILL NOT WORK for me when trying to use the Wireless Modem software via USB. For some damn reason WindowsXP won't install the drivers in the root of the Setup disc. I've even tried to manually install the drivers, but they still won't install. Consequently I still have a BANG in Device Manager (Generic Serial under Other Devices). Anyone else experience this and know how to fix it? I'd really like to get this phone tethered via USB.

You know what.. WindowsXP just made a fool out of me. I'm not lying when I said it wouldn't install or anything and even if I tried to do it manually from device manager or manually from Control Panel|Modems. However, I just gave it one last shot and let XP "search online" for the drive and install automatically (which the manual says to do and which is what I did before trying it manually the other ways) and sure enough it installed the HTC USB Modem driver finally. Very strange.. now lets go see if this works or not...

Posted by: pcmike

Works.... now the only thing I've yet to accomplish is getting ActiveSync to work over Bluetooth and I have a feeling it has to do with the ****** Dell Bluetooth Stack.

Posted by: jzinckgra

I know this isn't a tip, but how is the call quality on this phone? I have SE520 and was looking at getting the 8525. I realize it is a pda 1st, then a phone, but just wondering about cq. tx.

Posted by: importluva

I think call quality is great. Especially on UMTS

Ah, good, another Mac user. How you liking the phone? I am debating between it and waiting on the 750.

Posted by: RF9

Ditto. I know a codec is a codec, but I was totally surprised at how good the sound/call quality is on UMTS. My only real gripe with the 8525 is that the back light brightness is not bright enough (Treo 650 and 8125 are better.)

I think they mean the speak icon on the tray, i know of no volume key but the scroll works for that. Frustrating.

Is there an easier way to STOP an application besides going through Settings|System|Memory, perhaps by setting the "X" to mean "Stop" not just "Close" or whatever. I hate having to go STOP a whole bunch of crap that I was once using, but had "X"d out. Anyone?

Posted by: ar4phones

I have some problems, and then other annoyances, but I still love the phone and there are improvements, but I'm focusing on the bad (especially if people have figured out how to deal with it):

Problems:
1.) tethering over BT seems to only work when phone not in standby, wasn't true for 8125. I seem to have to turn on the phone to connect, which means pulling it out of my pocket.
2.) seems when it loses touch, it never continues to sync mail. when i force a send/receive, it immediately comes back with an error message connecting to isp.cingular (same with an IE cxn when in this funky mode). I force the phone in and out of flight mode to reconnect. This is real annoying.
3.) reply to all using IMAP only copies the addresses in the CC line, not the TO/FROM lines when multiple people (was a problem on 8125 too, assumed bug in old ROM, still there for me).
4.) even though I see the U for UMTS, I sometimes can't make a call in the middle of a large download, works other times.

Annoyances:
1.) I can't charge off miniUSB alone, i have to use the frickin dongle, AHH!
2.) no volume key
3.) keyboard layout different, missing quote, must use symbol menu for "
4.) IR is on the bottom, not the top
5.) keys are smaller than 8125 (though better feel)
6.) speakerphone output is on the back instead of side, so it gets muted more if you just put your phone down on desk or couch, unless you flip the phone

I'll send more as I think of more, this is off the top of my head. Any suggestions would be great.

So far, so good. MissingSync worked flawlessly which makes the phone much more useful for me. The MarkSpace web page doesn't list the 8525 as a supported device, so I was a bit hesitant at first. I've been carrying a RAZR which I used on occasion to tether my MacBook Pro via Bluetooth, and I'd like to be able to do the same thing with the 8525. It does work with WinXP, so I'm hopeful.

From the soft keyboard type, CTRL-Q. Should work if the application has it enabled, which, apparently, isn't very often It would be nice to have another approach.

Vijay555 had a program for increasing your screen backlight on the TyTN .. essentially as bright as the screen gets when you turn on the camera .. but then it wud suck up even more battery ..

Any way to automatically turn on the Bluetooth pairing when i turn on the headset? I hate the fact that i have to turn it on the phone just so it can pair. My gf has the Nokia 6682 and it automatically pairs when she turns on her BT headset and even have the ringtone play on it as well.

I use SPB Pocket Plus to do this, works pretty well and you can make exceptions for certain apps if you like.

One more thing, sometimes when I plug it in, it doesn't recognize as on AC and doesn't start charging. Only if I reset the phone will it start charging.

It think the keyboard is way better than on the 8525. I hated the 8125 keyboard, keys were too big. The 8525's are perfect. I like the number pad layout too.
The speaker is great quality. I agree though that it was nice having them on the side on the 8125, but I think this 1 new speaker is better qualty.

Had it and unpluggin and pluggin a few times helped. i donno...

today it wouldn't even turn on and when plugged in it flashed a red light and nothing else. only thing that helped was removing the battery and inserting after i had it plugged in. weird.

Has anyone found a way to override the SIM and show all the available networks? Mine shows one "Cingular" when I know there is at least T-mobile. (On my V3 I did SEEM edits to enable this.)

Thank you for that recommendation. How would I go about moving its resting place from the top right hand corner to say the middle of the bottom bar (in between calendar|contacts)? This is all new to me.. never used a PPC before.

Thank you.

I don't think you can move it - the whole point is it's ALWAYS visible in any app by covering the worthless "X" which MS provides....

Is there a way to make the 8525 send mail immediately?
Or are forcing a Send/Receive or waiting till it's next scheduled check the only options?

Posted by: BillVegas

Just recieved the device, and I have a few noobish questions you all will laugh at I'm sure...

1) How can I customize what goes on the "Today" Screen? Ideally, I'd at least like the Phone option there... as well as "Memory"

2) Closing programs for real. When I "X" out of something, it dosen't really close it. Is there a way to have the "X" Work like it should and stop a program from running? If not, are there any other ways to stop it besides going through the Memory section?

3) Themes, how can I change these hacky themes?

4) Mail. Do I need to install the XPress Mail to get the Outlook to work in the Messenging section?

5) Does a Neoprene protecitve case exist for this? I think that would make it optimal for my pocket with that... the harder cases arent exactly pocket-friendly.

More to come Im sure...

I had to post~ My 8525 arrived yesterday... I guess this is the first time I am on the early side of taking delivery of a phone...

So far so good... Still in the awkaward adjustment phase... I need a good case!!!

I am using www.musicdock.com right now. Had an issue when I tired to get cingular media net working with it. I think the cingular proxy causes issues. Even had the problem when I disabled http in wm. Anyone get Cingular Video to work? I get the error saying that I am not 3g capable once I switched to using the proxy and also did the wifi setting? I got a 3G sim with the phone but popped my 2.5G one in to get it working. I am assuming it is looking at something sim related to make that call?

Anyone else notice that the middle portion of their screen-- when you drag the stylus over it it feels a little rough compared to the edges.. pretty much if you broke the screen into 9 boxes, the center box on mine feels a little rough... thoughts?

Can you plug the power cable into the y-splitter, and the usb cable into the ysplitter? Therefore making the device charge using AC instead of usb (faster), as well as allowing sync/file transfer at the same time?

Posted by: Heinrich

Can someone help me with contacts searching? With my Treo 650 I would type "ps" for patty smith then press down to dial her default number. With the manipulation of the center wheel I could flip to other numbers. In the phone app this works similarly on the 8525 but not in either outlook contacts or agenda fusion OR agenda one. This drives me partially nuts.

A Speed Dial program that let syou dial from the today screen directly.. perfect for me. Check it out... definitely a good one... Could be better ones out there.. but I don't know of any..

Just got my 8525 and installed it. No wheel support at this time. I am sure he will add it if possible with as popular as the 8525 & Tytns will be. I would also like to remap the PTT button. Anyway, program runs fine but you can't change all of the buttons (yet).

I got rid of the power icon: regedit HKLM/services/power - change ShowIcon to 0 from 1.

If we can figure out how to lose the comm manager icon, the tray should hide.

Got it!

Regedit HKLM/services/WirelessMgr - change Keep to 0 from 1.

Haven't seen any negative effects so far...

FYI, you can use the fit4cat utility (free forums registration required) to make many of these tweaks (e.g. hiding power and wireless icons) without a registry editor.

First I installed the PTT button hack, the phone assigns it as button 5. You can then assign that free button to whatever you wish. It even supports the "hold down" function.
Find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279585

Then, I downloaded the Vibrate switch program which allows you to toggle the vibrate off or on.
Find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277811
Assign to button 5 (now that its accesible).

VOILA! HOLD DOWN PTT BUTTON TO TURN VIBRATE OFF AND ON!

Ok to you all,

How does SKYPE work on this device, for sure, or does it have to be overclocked to keep shype from freezing?

I saw someone state that it works but I have to see more than one state it to really believe it as some said that skype worked on my 8125 but it never did, even overclocked, or any of the 4 PDA versions the I tried!

Thanks for you all and this forum!

Posted by: nutnbolt

It works fine for me. I tested it out with my home pc. Works wonderful. No issues.

Posted by: ChinkySuavo

works for me...you dont need to overclock the 8525 for skype to work, my 8125 though...whole other story.

Posted by: wordpur

WOW now that is real GOOOD news as I have skype on my site, and a button to connect with me, but not always at my PC to receive a notification!
I can call them, if they leave a message, but the 8125 just crashed, and crashed, and crashed!

Skype support finilly stated they didn't support the 8125!
And my 8125 didn't support overclocking even to just 240 or just a 22% overclock! Some got it to work but NO way for me!

Maybe some of you might have the link, as I read 40 plus pages at xda developers, to the first complets Omanclock that worked on the 8125 and would that hack, work to bump the 8525 up to just 416 to 420Mhz?

Hey thanks for the replies

the best way to always soft reset the phone especially after RegEdits is hold down power button for about 3 seconds then it says your phone will turned off and you may lose unsaved data...click ok...then turn it back on by pressing the power button...this always makes the reg edits stay cuz i used to get the same issues where the edits wouldn't stay after using the soft reset button...cheers...

I use AEButton Plus also, and what I did was assign system volume down to a double press of the IE button. When the box pops up with the volume slider I scroll the wheel down or up to adjust the volume.

Here are a couple of lame Reg Edits. Some require a reboot, some don't. I recommend completely powering off your phone after any Reg Edit then turning it back on. Some Reg Edits don't "stick" with a regular restart.

HKLM\Software\OEM\Power
Change ShowMovingChargeBar from 0 to 1 and when your phone is charging, it has an animated charge bar. This is pretty for about 1 minute, but you have no way to tell how charged your phone is unless you unplug the AC. Then it tells you what % your at.

HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting
Change ShowUMTSBandPage from 0 to 1 and you will see an extra page in Start/Settings/Phone. At the bottom is a "Band" tab now allowing you to select your band.

HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone
Change ShowSIM from 1 to 0 to hide all the contacts on your SIM card.

HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
Change Hide from 1 to 0 to enable a GPS menu in Start/Settings/Connections. (Note: The 8525 doesn't have built in GPS, WM5 has a setting to help handle the data transfer from GPS receiver to 8525)

HKCU\ControlPanel\AudioAdvControl
This key has a couple of settings to improve your phones audio.
Change "3D" from 0 to 1 to enable a Simulated 3D sound.
Change "Bass" from 0 to 1 to turn on more Bass.
Change "SuperBass" from 0 to 1 to turn on even more Bass.
Change "Treble" from 0 to 1 to turn on more Treble.

HKLM\System\GWE
This key has a couple of setting to change the scroll bar width and arrow box size on the left and bottom of your phone in apps like Internet Explorer and others.
cxHScr, cxVScr, cyHScr, cyVScr are the 4 keys controling the scroll bars width and arrow box sizes. I changed everything to 12 and it made my scroll bars skinnier and made the arrow boxes about 2X smaller.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Calendar
Change ShowLunarCalendar from 0 to 1 and this should enable the Moon Cycles on your Calendar. (I use another PIM so I couldn't test this)

I have changed all of these with no problems. As always use at your own risk.

Where will these options be available? I applied the settings but I do not see the options available anywhere.

Posted by: rctoyguy

I'm guessing that this applies the change as if you were checking a box somewhere - it doesn't make that checkbox appear.

Just my guess...

Posted by: TriAxis

I don't really know if/how these settings work, I know they don't enable a hidden menu. I turned on 3D, Bass, and SuperBass. I tried turning these on and off and comparing sounds/songs with my factory USB headphones. It sounded like there was more Bass in some of the sounds, but it wasn't anything very noticable. A better way to get more Bass or Treble in your music, is to get TCPMP which has a built in EQ.

2. WHo is your service
3. Did your service install something that don't want someone to UP the speed so "we" wont run Skype and be able to multitask? HUMMMMMMM?

The better way to say that is "this almost always makes the reg edits stay"... The soft off and then soft reset is the only trick that has worked for all the WM5 devices that I own. It has never failed. The full power off and confirm that you mention has failed for me and others.

There are a number of reports over on Xda-Dev of PHM and XCPUScalar either doing nothing, or causing reset loops/hard resets, or resulting in complete ROM corruption requiring a re-burn of the ROM...one guy even had everything corrupt so thoroughly that he can't re-burn his ROM and has to return his 8525. YMMV, but I am in no hurry to revisit the Cingular store...

I believe it means it will return to the Today screen after that amount of time has passed. For example, if you were reading your e-mail and you turned the screen off and didn't turn it on again for more than 3 hours, when you turned it back on, it would no longer be on the e-mail screen, but on the Today screen.

Got my 8525 today and Skype on Wifi works just fine! E-sword does not work at all, locksup and have to reset!

This is about 3-5 seconds faster than the 8125 and I haven't hacked the reg yet!

Like it way more than the 8125, as it actually copies files to the SD Card and the 8125 would not, thats why I exchanged and up graded, as I never really had a PDA and just a real high priced phone!

I'll do some reg hacks for some more speed!

Later

I have installed E-sword both in main memory and on the SD card. It has worked flawlessly.

I am really happy that you got it to work, Really!

Dnloaded new 2005 of site with new bibles

I tried last night soft reset and installed esword to memory and bibles to mini SD and clicked on Icon and splash page came up and than tried to open and got no bibles in something or other!

Checked sd card saw bibles loaded in programs!

went back and clicked on Icon and splaxh screen to start and it locked up the device, had to soft reset!

Tried Olive tree Bible prgm. and it would not load, something about active sync sick or something, Soft reset . . .Made sure Gates's cable was connected and tried again. Same not connected fatal error message!

Checked "running prgms" last nite, no runing prgms Batt at 85%
Didn't turn off phone
Woke up this morning tried to turn on phone and had to do a soft reset to get it going
Looked a "running prgms" turned off stinking Active sync
went to battery saw 44%

less than one minute later popup say battery low needs charge
Checked batt and said 0%

Getting ready to return this thing for too many reasons!

Posted by: whatledog

I found with E sword that if I have both the program and 1 bible in the main memory, it'll work fine. If the bible goes in the storage card, i have to search for it to use it, a big hassle. Not a great thing, if you use lots of memory! But I still think it's great not carrying around my Lifedrive AND another phone around. Nothing's perfect in the pda/phone world

This has actually happened to me with a regular POP 3 account. I have no clue why this happens. And what's strange is that it didn't happen all the time. Seemed random.

Question:

How in the blazes do you get a computer (windows based) to utilize the wifi on an 8525 for access to the internet? I've done a bunch of searches, but have found no answers. I can do tethering over USB but since I'm in a hotel room and i get wifi, i want to use it instead of the gprs/edge/3G... Besides, I'm in an area that only has edge and it's horribly slow. I used to have my MPx220 tweaked this way. It's very useful, so I set up my 8525 with the page up/down keys. I was trying to figure out a way to map the scroll wheel to page/down. But I couldn't, it still just scrolls through through the hyperlinks. The scroll wheel is a lot quicker to get up the address bar though.
My ideal setup would be using the scroll wheel for page up/down. Then the 4-way buttons act how they normally do.
Does anyone know how to map the scroll wheel to page up/down???

I can do tethering over USB but since I'm in a hotel room and i get wifi, i want to use it instead of the gprs/edge/3G... Besides, I'm in an area that only has edge and it's horribly slow. My laptop is kinda old and doesn't have wifi built in. I appreciate any help you guys/gals can provide!

Why not just get a 802.11 USB adapter? They are about the size of a USB memory stick and work with less hassle than using your phone. Most run from $30-$50.

On my palm treo there was a program called keycaps that allowed me to leave the keyboard button pressed down for a specified period of time and it would give me that keys secondary value. For example if i pressed the "Y" button for more then a second it would automaticly change it over to a "1". Blackberrry's naturally have this feature, do you know if there is a hack for the PPC?

Is it really worth the upgrade, i have a 8125 with 2gb minisd and with the upgrade i will have to get a 2gb microsd, i used to have the 3g lc cu500 with 3g that was really fast, so i am really debating on switching, how come the 8525 does not have cingular video built into it like my old cu500, and can you log into cingular video with the 8525?????????

I'm aware that I could do that, but that's not the point. It just seems that there should be some way for a laptop to utilize the 8525's WIFI for internet access. If it could be done, it wouldn't make sense to buy a USB WIFI adapter.

BTW... I already bought one when I figured out that I couldn't make it work. lol

are you saying you want your phone to connect to a wifi network and then have your laptop connect to the internet through your phone's connection? the thing is, if your laptop has wifi then it will pick up on the very same wifi network. wifi is just another name for someone using a wireless router to broadcast an internet signal.

basically if the hotel has wifi that your phone can pick up, your computer can connect to the wifi without the phone if it has a wireless network card installed. if there is no wifi near you, you will have to tether your phone to laptop via bluetooth and use utms or edge or 3g.

Has anybody had any luck at enabling the Actual Alpha Tags on the 8525, I've tried several times following the generic registry edit
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=0 (DWORD decimal)
and then
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names

I've had no luck so far.

I don't have a data plan. Do you need internet to use google maps? Are there other MAP applications for pocket pc that doesn't require internet connection?

I have succesfully installed Pocketnester on my 8525 and played games.....not sure the best way to lay this out but here goes:

1. On your regular PC download version .7 of pocketnester, it has an auto install feature. download and unzip all 4 or 5 of the files on the website:

http://sourceforge.net/project/show...?group_id=71201

2. Install this on your PDA.

3. On your regular PC Download version .8 "x50v only" and unzip. Here is the link: http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/E...nly-22646.shtml

4. Manually copy the new x50v file into the folder on your PDA with the version 7 pocketnester.

5. Download some ROMs from romnation.net--may I suggest Punch Out.

6. Open the new version of the pocketnester software on your pda.

7. before doing anything else go to options/graphics and uncheck the GAPI box.

8. Go back to file/Open Rom and choose your game

9. you are good to go!!! for punch out the punch buttons are camera button=right hand, communication button=left hand, dpad does the rest. that is all i know so far.

Good luck!

How can I sort my call history so that my most recent calls are at the top. Right now it seems as if my calls are logged into my call history randomly.
ie

joe 12/23
dave 12/25
doug 11/16

can someone tell me the name of that program again where you can have the pictures of the person where you can just click and it will dial the phone#?

Posted by: dhartung02

I use PhotoContacts Pro. It allows me to choose who to call by looking at the picture. It also shows full screen caller id picture when someone calls. You can also setup unique mp3 ringtones for each of the callers.

I just got finished installing Pocketnester. I couldn't find that x50v thing you were talking. I did get that .7 file up and running. AND......IT......IS.....AWESOME> My job is open this week but we're pretty much running a skeleton office. So I'm going to beat Zelda for the first time.

Between Pocketnester, BB Connect, and HSDPA I'm in 8525 heaven.

Haven't messed with pocketnester before, and there are a lot of files to extract, which .exe should I run through activesync onto my 8525?

I used the 2002ppc one. The name changes to pnsetup_arm2k2 once you unzip it. Good luck!

How can I sort my call history so that my most recent calls are at the top. Right now it seems as if my calls are logged into my call history randomly, meaning that the last call incoming or outgoing is usually not at the top of my call history.

I wound up just copying over the x50v only file (.8), and it ran just fine after I unchecked the GAPI option as suggested.

Posted by: i835 chirp

Do you guys know how to install the ROM's onto a microSD card? I went on ROMNation and for a lot of the games there are 7+ zips and in them are .bins, how would I get them to function with PocketNester?

Posted by: BartonJay

I copied only the .nes file left after unzipping the initial ROM dowload. I copied them onto a folder on my documents in my device memory. They seemed to be relatively small, especially compared to songs and pictures which I have copied to my microsd card. Are you sure you are using NES Roms and not some other system?

BTW, anyone have trouble removing the microSD card? I got a 2Gig the other day, tried to pop it out and it ended up pushed in to far and quit working. I couldn't get it out until I tried a small pin which worked.

Posted by: Trinic

yes, i had trouble with my 2 gb micro too. i just got it the other day as well and the first time i put it in the phone and tried popping it out, it wound up being pushed in too far and i panic'd, played around with it a bit and ended up just having enough slack to pull it out

o and to "i835 chirp" nester. make sure ur in the NES section..

http://www.romnation.net/srv/roms/nes.html

i just checkd a bunch of the rom downloads and theyre in zip format, so u might b in the wrong section. either way, theyre *.nes file extension so after u extract em, place on ur microsd and then just navigate to em from PocketNester..

o and it does work but its too hard to play such games on our phone and noticed my phone running sluggish and shutting off while on the charger after its install so out it went. =) good luck

Posted by: i835 chirp

@BartonJay & Trinic:

Thanks for your replies guys, I found the .NES section

welcome =) glad i could help

I love this phone just one problem I LOST THE STYLUS!!! Anyone know a "PERFECT 100% EXACT MATCH" replacement? I went to atleast 5 stores both corporate and authorized and no one had a replacement. I want one that is identical to the original. Right now I'm stuck with a crappy stylus pen meant for a Nintendo DS. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know why some ringtones (like WAVs or MP3's) play choppy when you use them? I have a 200kb WAV file of an excerpt from a song and it plays great in TCPMP and Windows Media Player, but as a ringtone it plays choppy...

Both of them??!??!? You do know there's an extra in the box, right?

I do believe MobilePlanet carries OEM replacements. BoxWave has an aftermarket replacement which should fit too.

Is there a way to set shortcuts on Windows Mobile? I would like to put some stuff on the Today page, but can't figure it out. One thing I am specifically looking to do is create a short cut so I can easily switch from Vibrate to Ring. Sorry if this is a basic question, but this is my first WM phone.

i use two apps to fix this, one of them is the PTT talk fix so that you can map the PTT button to any program you want. Then install Vibra (Switch), which you can find here on the forums to allow you to use that button to switch between vibe and sound. hope this helps.

Thanks. That is exacly what I am looking for.

Great Website too. Definately takes a while to get used to a different OS's.

I have heard of problems regarding apps not closing. Is there a way to check what Apps or running. On Symbian you hold down C and all apps running show.

Posted by: wbexpress

OK, I just downloaded the PTT fix, and although on the "buttons" setting, I see <none> next to both Button 5 and Button 5 (press and hold), when I do press the PTT button, it still shows the default "not yet available" message. Anybody know what I did wrong?

You didn't do a soft reset on your phone. Do that then push the button and it will work like a charm.

Start, Settings, System, Memory, Running Programs there, you will see all of your running programs with the option to turn them off.

you have to assign the buttons to which every program, in this case Vibra, then it will execute that program/function.
