Sigh - this should be a easier.

But some more messing around
Run the SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab file, then
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies:
Change the DWORD named "1001" to 1 (could originally be 2)
Change the DWORD named "1005" to 40 (could originally be 16)

Now it seems as if although the files are listed as protected I can copy over them - so I have managed to get rid of the noise.
THanks for your help
Is there any documentation (unofficial or otherwise) that explains the settings in the registry etc so we can tweak our BJ's - better yet a tool to simplify this....?

A lot of the tweaks for the Moto Q will work. If you search google for Motorola q homescreens you should find two or three good sites. Other than that there are some interchangeable WM5 tweaks that work.

love my new blackjack, but am having every issue previously mentioned concerning the stupid startup/shutoff noises, sms notices, etc etc.

I'm mac-based & running MissingSync software (which is divine) but would love love love to edit the phone registry via my non-intel powerbook.

is this a pipedream?

http://www.qusers.com/forum

On this site I was able to find a lot of reg tweaks and there are tons of good homescreens there too.

Even if someone doesn't know xml, in a few steps you can take any image you want to make your homescreen and change one already created and make it your own.

EDIT: No one can recommend a program that takes screen shots/grabs of your Blackjack? I want to take a picture of my Homescreen and only know of programs that were designed for the 8125/8525 (touchscreen, not smartphone).

The registry is edited on the device itself, not via activesync/deskstop box.

I tried Smart SS and it made phone phone all screwy, I was hoping I could fine another one. Do you use Smart SS? When I started the app, it opened the camera and was not what I was looking for.

Also, I am a diie hard Islander fan!

You need a program called "cczoom.exe" included with the Microsoft mobile development SDK. It will capture the screen of a connected device.

Yes. But I'm mac-based. is there a registry editor that works on my platform that can edit my BJ's windows mobile 5 registry?

You edit the registry via a program on your BLACKJACK, not your desktop computer. It doesn't matter if you use a Mac, Linux, or Windows because you don't have to even have a computer to edit the registry on your BJ.

The microsoft website says I have to order a DVD for this? Can someone just post the executable file or will that not work? Thanks for your knowledge in this.

Just received my Blackjack. On the fence right now - coming from a 8125 and that's obviously more capable as a PDA but like the 3G and form factor of the BJ. Debating the 8525 vs the BJ. Unfortunately I have discovered that 3G surrounds my house and gets within maybe 500yards but I still can't quite get it. Does Cingular respond to begging to increase the power of their transmitters slightly (actually just one)!!

My current question - the new phone came with a SIM card - which I haven't yet used. Currently using my old 64K card from the 8125. The new on has a 3G logo on it. Is there any advantage/difference to using the new '3G' SIM card - I get 3G when in a 3G area (just down the street!) although it doesn't seem very fast. I suspect there's no difference?

Ditch the Blackjack Startup & Shutdown Screens/Sounds

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you find the startup and shutdwon screens on the Blackjack to be annoying, you can get rid of them with a registry change as folows:

HKey_Local_Machine>system>
-under system there are two entries: Shutdown and Startup
-under each one you will find an entry named 1
-under 1 there is a value name of Dll
-the default value for both entries is OemAnimationDll.dll
-change the default value data of each of those files (startup and shutdown) to the word none (I suppose null would work also but I know the word none does for sure)
-after changeing the value to none, back out to the main menu - wait a couple seconds and shut down and then restart, and you will find the annoying shutdown and startup screens and audio are gone.

When you shut down, hold the on/off button down for the normal 2-3 three seconds and release. At that point when you normally would have seen the shutdown screen and audio, it appears that nothing is happening, but just be patient and wait the few seconds a shutdown normally takes and the screen will go blank as the unit powers off.

On startup, you will immediately see the standard blue Windows Mobile Screen which will be there until the home screen comes up and loads. Just remember that it still takes the normal time to shutdown and startup. I guess all the startup and shutdwon OEM .dll files did was run in the foreground while the normal o/s functions ran in the background.

For some strange reason using Resco or Total Commander I can not change the value of the registry key. After I input 'none' and press OK and go back into the registry key it has the original DLL information present. I even rebooted and the setting did not stick. It seems like the registry is read-only for some reason? What am I missing?

Yes, I just called up Cingular and they will e-mail me or call me with the unlock code. They said it can take 5-7 business days since they now need to go through Samsung to get the code. Before they could just give it out over the phone immediately.

Has any been able to successfully hook up either a PDA or a laptop to a Blackjack via bluetooth (or some other means) and if so can you go through the procedure you used ? Also how fast was it ? And did the connection hold or have any issues ?

Specifically I am looking to purchase a HP ipaq rx5915 and would like to be able to access the internet on that using my Blackjack.

Thanks !

I did it yeaterday. Do a search for "blackjack DUN". You'll probally get a link to mobilitysite.com. They have a good step by step.

That site mistakes DUN (dial up networking) for PAN (personal area network). The Blackjack supports PAN, not DUN.

Posted by: ivwshane

Is there any reason why when you go into contacts and start typing a letter it doesn't automatically go to that letter? Only certain letters seem to do this (think v or z and maybe r or t).

So when I type "a" it goes to names starting with "a" but when I type other letters (like the ones mentioned above) it doesn't go to that letter (I'm only referring to when only one letter has been entered).

Posted by: KenDude

A few weeks ago I set up my BlackJack to use DUN and connect to Cingular's network just fine. I even reported my download speeds being in excess of 1mbps.

Last week I took a trip to Orlando, Raleigh and Atlanta.

I successfully used this connection in KC (home), Orlando at a busines, and Raleigh in my hotel. However, I COULD NEVER GET IT TO WORK IN THE ATLANTA AIRPORT!!!

The home base of Cingular, Atlanta Georgia, and the DUN would NOT work in the Atlanta airport - FRUSTRATING!

I believe this does point out that Cingular has the ability either by account or by location to limit DUN connectivity, as I don't think the Cingular network would be "down" in the Atlanta airport.

Upon my return to KC the connection works just fine. I tried everything of course, rebooting laptop, rebooting phone, etc. For the record I am using the wap.cingular.com and cingular1 location and password as depicted earlier in this topic thread.

Just wanted to post this as an FYI if others are having problems connecting.

I can get any letters to "search" my phone list. What I wish is that there was a way (and there may be one that I haven't figured out) to just search the contacts when I do that. Currently, I get contacts as well as call history. I may have dialed you most recently on your cell phone, but if i search, and I've called you a lot recently, and i want to reach you at home, I have to scroll down to the actual contact in that listing to get your home number.

BJ supports PAN and DUN. I'm using DUN now -- I find it faster.

Posted by: E-luzion

Is anyone experiencing storage issues? I only have about 34 mb of emails and 72 kb of contacts and all my available space is just about filled???

I have nothing else on the phone except for the Fasade program.

Also I am being told that there is no capability to prevent deletion of emails on the exchange server. If i delete it on my handheld, it deletes it on my desktop, which is tied into the exchange server....

Wow that's fugly. I'm glad I don't rely on 3G that often. When I know I'm not going to have access to a charger or my usb sync cable for more than 12 hours I usually shut off 3G. Too bad the battery life is so bad when it is running. The other day I was doing some Christmas shopping after work and while waiting in line I pulled out the Blackjack and was watching Sportcenter streamed through Orb. All the guys around me were very impressed. I didn't have the phone charging while I was at work and after watching maybe 15 minutes of TV it made it about 10 hours before it was down to about 10% left. I guess if didn't carry the phone in my pocket 100% of the time I'd consider one of those batteries but that would add way too much bulk to carry it that way.

Not sure where my other post went.. but the cover and extended battery its not bad at all.. its a little thicker... if the extended battery is completly drained and recharged, i got 2 full days of heavy email and sms use...

hi everyone,
i have 2 problems with my blackjack which im not sure if the answers are in this thread but i didnt want to look though 43 pages.
problem 1: im trying to connect a bluetooth headset, the motorola H700 and it wont connect. i go to the bluetooth menu and search for new headset devices and it cant find it. does anyone know if im doing something wrong or not but id like to use it.

problem 2: i have the cingular 8125 which i was able to connect it to my tomtom one via bluetooth so that i can check on traffic updates & weather, but since im using my blackjack, im trying to connect to it. the tomtom one finds the bj but when it tries to connect it will not go through. anyone know how to solve that problem also?

would really appreciate any help. thanks

Posted by: P1mpPanther

I'm thinking it's a compatibility issue. I was looking into the Tom Tom One as well and didn't see the BJ in the list of supported handsets:

any news on pocket msn???

Posted by: Michael95GT

Here are a couple of avatars I've made, Feel free to use them. Maybe a Mod could add them to the Samsung Avatars.

Posted by: dlevine

wow. read all 43 pages and still have Qs! (Thanks for all the tips!) Here goes...

1) Any way to reduce the vibrate time? I'm getting *serious* phantom leg vibrates after only a few weeks of the mega-vibrate phone in my pocket. That cant be good long term.

2) Saw posted and said there was a way, but no details: How do I save an attachment via email to my phone and not just view? Specifically, if I email myself an image, I can open it with Picsel but cannot figure out how to save it to the device so I can (a) set it as wallpaper or (b) forward it on as an MMS message. Anyone? There *has* to be a way to do this.

2) How can I select/copy text from an email or txt msg so that I can paste it into another app? I often have people txt msg me addresses and then want to copy-paste it into Google Maps. Cant figure this one out without my familiar 650 touch screen!

3) The thing I miss most about my 650 is the threaded SMS conversations! I always forget what I last said to someone or what they last said to me, so I dont remember what we are talking about! Are there any SMS management apps I can use that will give me threaded SMS/MMS conversations?

4) My other favorite treo app was Directory Assistance. There is a copy for Windows Mobile 5.0, but I'm afraid that its only for PPC and not smartphone. The app is at:
http://www.freewareppc.com/database...ssistance.shtml
When I tried to install it, it told me I need a newer version of .NET. (Duh, the download page says .NET CF 2.0.) So I downloaded + installed .NET CF 2.0 and then the DA program will install and run! But not actually work... When I try to run it I get: "Error. An unexpected error has occurred in DA.exe." Selecting Details gives me: "DA.exe NotSupportedException at Microsoft.AGL.Common.MISC.HandleAr() at System.Windows.Forms.Control._InitInstance() ...." Does this just mean its made only for PPC and no luck on the Smartphones? Its a great app for looking up numbers + addresses and getting directions. A little quicker/easier than Google Maps for that stuff.

Thanks for any help! I have 7 days left on my free 30 day trial and I'm leaning towards keeping the phone. I really hated the phone right after I got it though, but am starting to get used to things. These are my final list of things to try and sort out!

dan

Posted by: jemdogs

Well, I've had my BlackJack for a few days now and have probably read several hundreds of pages on this forum in my quest to hack/tweak it. So far, here are a few things I'm still stuck on:

1. I've read the threads on the camera shutter sound issue. I've tried the registry tweaks which don't work (makes me wonder what the registry is for if Windows doesn't listen to it) and I've tried overwriting the .wav with a blank one but the file is write-protected. I've also tried to customize my Start Menu by deleting alot of the default Cingular crap, but that directory is write-protected as well. So my question is: Is there a way to "unlock" the file system on the phone so I can move/delete anything? I find it very frustrating that I cannot even organize my Start Menu because everything is locked.

2. Has anyone been able to successfully tether their BlackJack over Bluetooth in Vista? I am able to pair the phone with Vista, but it does not show up when scanning for PAN devices. This of course is preventing me from creating a tether.

3. In a couple applications on the phone (Internet Explorer, Internet Connection Sharing, Proxy Setup) there is an option along the lines of "Connect To..." where I am able to choose between WAP, Secure WAP, MEdia Net, and "The Internet". That last one is especially baffling because it makes me wonder if the other choices are connecting me to "Candy Land" or something. So, can someone post a semi-detailed description of the differences between these settings?

Thanks for all the detailed info so far!

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartM enu

You can move things around. What I did was delete everything except for Active Sync.lnk (thats because you cannot delete this). Soft reset the phone and when you go back into start, they will all be in alphabetical order. What I did next was go back into the reg to the same folder and after Active Sync.lnk, I added the next file I wanted and reset again. Now when I go into start, I have the programs I want first and the rest are in alphabetical order. Hope this is something along the lines you were looking to go.

I cannot really give you a synopsis of what they mean but I use 'The Internet' and seem to get the best results.

Thanks for the reply maevro. That method might work for my Start Menu although I would still have all the provider crap at the bottom, but I would still like to know if its possible to unlock the file system so I can overwrite that shutter sound file, it would also be nice to have for general future use.

I dont mind it, but one of these might work.....

A.
Navigate to:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Pictures\Camera\OEM\Sou ndFile

In the SoundFile key:
Modify the string/value \windows\shuttersound_02_secs.wav to say \windows\*none*

Yes it should have the ** around none

B.
Navigate to the key \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Pictures\Camera\OEM\

Change the ShutterSoundVolume value from 32768 to 0 and reset

Ill look for some other hacks....

OK, Here's mine. I'm a Symbian boy, but got this BlackJack for work for the Outlook sync (stupid thing is, I can't have ActiveSync on my work laptop, so I'm going to have to use GooSync, anyways, so I may still swap out for the E62. Thing is I'm a data whore, and LOVING the 3G)

Anyways....

1. Is there a way to make the icons on the top row of the homescreen static? On my S60, I can pick what apps are always there, which is really convenient.

2. Been asked several times in this thread, with no answer. Is there a way to shorten that vibrate?? It's a bit ridiculous.

3. Does this phone not come with Office editors? I can't find them anywhere

4. Charging via the USB cable. Possible? I'd read that it was, but I can't get it to work. I have a dummy car charger adapter that I can plug any usb cable into (use it for my ipod and bluespoon AX) was hoping i could use it for the blackjack, but I can't get it to work.

5. Is there a P2P program for WM5?? Similar to Symella, which is like Limewire on your phone?

That's about it for now. I'm trying really hard to not return this phone for the E62 or 9300...

Yes, get facade. I used to have all the icons on the top, but moved them to the bottom. They are all static and you can have up to 24 scrolling across.

Active Sync needs to be open and running for the phone to charge through the USB.

I haven't tried to edit any documents, sorry. I also don't know about the P2P software for WM5.

Consider a trial of Facade which has an enhanced appt. app and an editor that allows quite a bit of flexibility for the homescreen. Then there is always xml editing.

I'm playing with this but I'm in no way saying this is the "end all". This requires registry editing. Do so at your own risk and the usual disclaimers.

Put the phone into vibrate mode. It's key that you do this first. Then, using a registry editor, browse to "HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script" You should find a value something like "v3w3apw3r". The "v3" portion is the vibrate in seconds. Change the 3 to a 2 or 1 and then close out your editor. I've tested in on mine and it works until you change the profile back to normal and then come back to vibrate. At that time it's back to 3 seconds of vibrate, so the value is stored somewhere else in the registry as well and it gets cached to the profile. Still searching, but don't have much time today. At least a temporary fix.

4. Charging via the USB cable. Possible? I'd read that it was, but I can't get it to work. I have a dummy car charger adapter that I can plug any usb cable into (use it for my ipod and bluespoon AX) was hoping i could use it for the blackjack, but I can't get it to work.

I believe this is tied to activesync being on with the host. I've found a registry value for this that might work, but need to play with it later.

5. Is there a P2P program for WM5?? Similar to Symella, which is like Limewire on your phone?

No luck here, but a pointer that might be worth a read:

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot that I had previously changed my vibrate profile. The value of the default string is "av3w3r". Again changing the digit after the "v" will alter the length of the vibrate. The other commands within that string are "a" for activate the device, "w" is the wait between vibrate commands and "r" is for repeat. So this string is "activate device, vibrate for 3 seconds, wait for 3 seconds, repeat".

I'll check into Facade. I saw some screenshots and it looked uber-crowded to me. I don't like my homescreen too jumbled up. Keep it clean. I've used other Papyrus from the same developer and ditched it cause it's just too much.

Please keep us updated. I'm not one to go jacking around in the registry, liable to brick my phone doing that crap. I'll let others test it and post proven results.

However, you say 3 seconds, there's no way the default vibrate is a mere 3 seconds. It's at least 5-7, imo.

Good read, thanks for the link, but it doesn't quite accomplish what I'm looking for. I'll speak with the developer of Symella (Symbian + Gnutella) and see if he's at all familiar enough with Windows programming to have a WinMella or something similar. With 3G, it's disgusting to not have P2P, imo.

Thanks alot for the quick answers. Like I said, I'm trying real hard to keep an open mind and keep this phone for work.

I wish I could find a screen shot/grab program for smartphones because I want to take some pictures of my homescreens that I created in xml. Anyway, you can customize facade so well that you will be very happy. My home screen is very neat and not crowded at all. You can set margins and space well and move things around, all to your liking.

Facade lets you select which (if any) and how many icons you have up top. Many people fill the entire line and yes that sometimes looks crowded.

Instead, you can put just a few icons up there. This will make it look clean. You can also turn on/off the "large icons" feature which also helps make it look nice.

How to charge while tethered to your computer

So, one of the questions I've noticed in this VERY LONG thread was how to charge your phone while sharing the internet connection with your computer thru USB. Here is the VERY simply process that a friend found out for me, not sure where, but it works great.

Quick Steps:
1. Connect thru ActiveSync
2. Browser to \Windows\ and click on "Internet Sharing" on your phone
3. Click "Connect"
4. Your done, your phone should be charging and you can surf internet.

Since it's very annoying to SCROLL thru the large list of files with in the Windows directory, it would be a lot easier to copy the shortcut file to your start menu. Keep in mind though, you will need to have your phone Application Unlocked in order to copy and paste links into the Start Menu.

Enjoy

Thanks man, I just downloaded it. I don't know why, but this is making me feel like a moron. When I run it, it brings up a blue screen that says press * to take a screen shot. I do that and it makes a camera sound. How do you know what you are taking the screen shot of and where does it save it too?

Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Please save me from banging my head against the wall 20 times.

Here's another one:

Can you select text, and use copy/paste on WM5? On S60, you have have the "pencil key" that you can hold down and then use the dpad to highlight text in certain screens, and then copy/paste it into other screens.

Obviously with PPC you click and drag, but I have yet to find this function on the BlackJack. Anyone??

Vito Copy and Paste, that is all.

Have you tried Orb? If you have a tv tuner card and XP MCE and Orb (which is free) its better than a slingbox. You can stream all you video and audio content from your home machine (must be on) and also watch live tv if you're using a tv tuner card in the PC. It'll work on anything with an internet connect - work laptop, smartphone, PPC, whatever. Over a wireless connection, I had about an 8 second delay watching Sportcenter.

Did anyone find a program that works on the BJ that will send all of the audio through a mono Bluetooth headset? I have seen this question floating around on the net and haven't seen a good answer.

I have my pop3 email account set up on my Blackjack. I use my internet providers email (Brighthouse Roadrunner) incoming and outgoing email server settings. I can recieve email fine but can't seem to send using those settings. Same thing happens when I teather my Blackjack to my laptop and try to send email thu Outlook. Is there a special outgoing server setting needed to send email over Cingulars network?

If your email provider is like most, they block smtp mail being sent thru their servers from an IP address outside their network. This is to stop their network from being used for spam. On Cingular, I was able to set the outgoing mail server to one that allows smtp and set the reply address to point back to my real email account.

Posted by: Touareg

Mr. Bungle, can you please share how you set this up? Both for the outbound emails and linking the replies back to your original inbox?

I have downloaded the regedit and don't forget, but after I unzip them, there are a couple of files, one is an .xml file. How do you install them on the phone?!?[I][U] If I transfer them to the phone it does not show up there. If I transfer the .cab file, it won't show up either. I guess I need to go back to smartphone school.

Themes, are you talking about home screen?

Open active sync. Go into Application data > Home. Drag the .jpg and xml file into home. Thats all you have to do.

Alright dudes/dudettes,

Great thread! (scored my BJ yesterday and read the thread last night (much to the GF's dismay as it took >2 hours [tweaking along the way]).. Couple questions so far:

1) After reading the thread I *think* our pocket outlook supports push mail natively.. that said I does this require Exchange or is IMAP supported? I created a domain/account on AOL and setup a tertiary IMAP profile on the phone -Exchange/Outlook unused at present- push certainly is not an option within the IMAP settings (or a connection keepalive checkbox)... What I'm shooting for here is push without a 3rd party client.

2) Was anyone able to confirm that these new 3G SIMs are not necessary (I unlocked immediately and am using my old SIM)?

3) Is there a non-regedit method (IE. gui/util) to turn off the UMTS/HSDPA network scanning/pings when not in a 3G coverage areas?

4) Is there a way to backup the phone entirely once I'm done customizing it (IE. registry and filesystem vs. ActiveSync Apps/Contacts/etc..)?

Thanks-

Josh

Hey Josh -

Here's some info

1) You can do IMAP with your pocket outlook however I don't think you can do push email w/o using something like Good, Xpressmail, Direct Push or 3rd party service. Here's what Cingular offers
http://business.cingular.com/busine...aging/index.jsp

Someone else might know better, I'm going to check out Xpress mail since its free with my plan.

2) I had the same question. I don't know and honestly I'm not losing anymore sleep about it. I think the key is to make sure that 3G / UTMS is provisioned to your bill. If you walk into a Cingular store they'll give you a 3G SIM for nothing and will also transfer your contacts from your old sim for free. That's what I did and everything works fine.

3) It sounds like what you want to do is force your phone to EDGE, Check this post:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ackjack+network

I'm not sure about the fourth question, though I imagine you can mount your device on your computer and just copy the files you want to backup.

Hope this helps

Great Tip - wish there was an app to capitalize letters and the alt character so holding the 'A' button would give you a/A/% depending on how long you hold the button. There was a great POS app called KeyCaps that did this...

First, make sure you "application unlock" your phone. (Search if not familiar)
Copy the .exe file over to your phone via active sync. Use the File Explorer to locate the .exe on you phone and select it once. Nothing will be visible but that will activate it. Then go into any editable field, like an email, and press and hold the dpad OK button. You'll see the menu appear.

Josh - what you are looking for is only currently available in third party apps ... the only working program I am aware of right now is Sprite Backup (not a cheap option).

http://www.spritesoftware.com/sprite-backup

You can check out my review of it here:
http://justanothermobilemonday.com/...e-5-smartphone/

Unfortunately there is no "trial" available per se... you have to fork out the cash for the program, but you get a 30 day money back, which they honor without any hassle.

Just a suggestion - you should do a reverse negative of that background image (Edit->Transform->Flip Horiztonal if you have Photoshop), you'd probably be able to read your text overlays better if you did.

I've tried this, but get errors either related to incorrect account settings or time outs.

Does this require authentication? As I don't know what name/pwd I would use, I'm assuming that Cingular is just closing this to their network and not requiring auth. If otherwise, what get used for l/p?

Posted by: Josh256

Looks like the IMAP protocol *does* support a connection keepalive via the "idle" command.. this results in push-like functionality for receive (send/receive required to send, bah)... BUT, WM5 doesn't natively support IMAP idle so we're SOL for the time being...

It's the only one that I have found so far. It's a great program for doing full sized caller ID. Unfortunately, if you use it for your primary Contacts program, you'll have to step through more key combo's in order to do simple things like send an sms.

I've worked with the development team over there making suggestions to them to make the simple things easier. Hoping that they will update it for us.

Right now I'm using the standard WM contacts program to search and send text with and have Photo Contacts Pro doing my full screen Caller ID. It's a bit expensive for just using it in this way I think.

Download the .cab to your computer, then through active sync, drag it ontp your phone. Go through explorer on your phone and click on the .cab and it will self extract and run.

Some things I install to the card and other things I install to the phone, it depends on the program. Some people install everything to the phone and others save everything to the card.

Apps like games and screen shot program I saved to my card, but something like Resco Red Edit I saved to my phone.

Photo Contacts is the only program I've seen so far that allows you to assign ringtones to contacts by category. This was something I could do with my RAZR and I would love to be able to do with the Blackjack. Does anyone know of any other programs that allow you to do this?

I'd love to see Agendus One and Photo Contacts Pro combine forces, it would be the perfect PIM.

Do you have a screenshot program running in the background? I use Screen Capture by Ilium Software, and it puts out a camera shutter sound when running if you press the * key.

Most of my messages show up with an incorrect timestamp five hours earlier than the actual time. Phone is set to EST (which all my friends are in) and I'm having the problem both w and w/o the auto-update feature enabled.

Interestingly it often happens on the second SMS from any particular person sms/thread so it's not consistent to any source SMS-ID.

Anyone seen this?

I just bought my BJ, so please bear with me if this is already on the post (though I did not find any solution to it).

After installing TCPMP (and another different software for SmartPhones), I get a warning that the display may not work properly as the program was written for an older version of Windows. Afterwards, I see that the top row of the BJ (with signal strength and BT icons etc), always remains the same. Sometimes, the font of Start and Contacts botton on home page also becomes bold and bigger. Only way to fix this seems to be to RESET the phone, but it is not very convenient. Has anyone found a way to fix this?

A different question is regarding BT headset. I have successfully connected the BT headset, but have to go to headset and connect it to BJ every time I want to use it. Is there an easy way that it would connect automatically either by changing the profile or modifying any other setting?

Thanks.

for headset:

start>connections>bluetooth>headset setting
then check the box that says "Auto connection pop-up"
it will connect whenever it is in range automatically

Enjoy

Well here I am in the Dallas airport and for some reason DUN will NOT work, it keeps getting an error 619 when trying to verify the connection.

So I thought I would try this option and when I click on Connect I see it dropping connection then reconnecting under 3G by the icon changing where the strength bars are on the phone, then I hear my laptop drop and connect the USB connection and then I get an error on the phone that says the remote party has ended this connection.

So basically NOTHING works at the moment... Ugh...

Anyone know WHY the internet connection sharing isn't working???

Is there a better task manager program for this device?

What about a better way to completely close an app without using the task manager.

And whats the best media player for this (specifically one that supports the most video file types)?

Posted by: iJITSU

1. Don't know
2. Xbar might work
3. The Core Player

I have to say that seeing this thread and messing with some of the tweaks here has indeed made me glad I got the Blackjack. Now, a quick question: Has anyone had a problem with the Unchecking of Show SIM Contacts on their phone? I've done it a few times now, but seems it still winds up checking itself again not long after. Not sure if it's just happening when I reboot the phone or not, but it's definitely changing itself back.

How is closing out apps through celetask better than task manager? I think he was trying to ask if theres anyway to close out an app permanently without having to use any sort of task manager, as soon as you close out of the app.

That is correct. I have noticed that some apps do have an exit button, why more apps aren't like that I dont know.

How can I change the location of file storage? For instance, can I change my temporary internet files location or where my emails are stored to a SIM card?

Posted by: cantman

P1mpPanther...how do you get speeds so fast on your phone? I did a speed test fron DSL Reports and could only attain about 550 kb/sec while on 3G. Am I doing something wrong?. Do I need to get a different server to get such speeds?

Even more, how can I specify install location to be the SIM for various apps?

Posted by: thefourthdoctor

Do you mean for a memory card? The Blackjack uses microSD. Your SIM card only stores numbers.

When you install a program, you should be able to choose to install to phone memory or to a memory card.

Hmm, my blackjack wont even show the .cab files in its browser...is there some secret setting that i'm missing?
I know they are there because i see them in active sync, but when i try to go there on the phone there is nothing

xbar sorta works, until it randomly doesn't anymore - and then you need to reboot as the phone can't access its apps and its storage... if it happens in the middle of the night, your alarm clock won't wake you up (... please don't ask me how I know, almost got me fired ...)

I had the same problem with xbar 3.0 and 3.1 fixed it for my T-Mobile SDA... seems like a new ver. 3.2 fix is in order...

<EDIT> it appears that xbar 3.2 is out already and it claims to have fixed the memory leak http://xetranet.free.fr/xbar2/

Oops, yeah I meant SD, not SIM. Is there a way for me to store email there? And my contacts, etc?

Am I missing something? I thought it would be the same thing, but my phone does NOT auto connect the headset. In fact, I still have to connect headset manually each time. Here is what I have done:

Added headset pairing (enable Headset checkbox during device add)
Check "Auto connection pop-up" checkboxes.

Do I need to make some changes to my profiles or anywhere else?

Thanks for your help!

This has happened quite a few times now. The BJ crashes (i.e. it restarts automatically) and after I restart it (sometimes it happens when I restart it manually), the fonts of the system are changed. In the pictures below, note how the Start and Contacts on the right are different (bigger) than normal default ones (on left). The only option left after that is to reset the BJ, which is a pain if I need to do it frequently. I recently lost some very nice pictures of my daughter because I forgot to xfer to my PC (which I normally do all the time). Any ideas on how to fix this without resetting?

Thanks.

I have the same problem.

My BT headset don't have any such problem and I don't have to check that box.

From what I read a while back, some BT headsets have problems remember the pairing, not BJ's fault.

Now, without BT voice dialing, there is really very little use of BT headset.

If i have stored programs and info on the 2gb card in the phone and I do a master reset... will it delete the info on the card?

and second, once i do a master reset, do i have to reload the programs on the card.. or reinstall them all together?

Posted by: dbltap

Master reset does not format the SD card; only the main phone memory. Any data stored there will be fine. Programs will still be on the card, hwoever all registry settings will be gone. You will have to reinstall all programs.

If you use Sprite Backup, you can restore all the settings quickly. Just remember, if you have used the Application Unlock program to install 3rd party apps, you will need to run that app first BEFORE running the Sprite Restore after a hard reset. I made a sub-driectory on my SD card called ESENTIAL. I keep the application unlocker and Sprite Backup there. And the most current stable backup file. If I have to do a hard reset, I can be back up and running within 3 to 4 minutes.

PlatMan, thanks for the link. After hours of looking and searching this forum and others around the internet, I thought that bluetooth DUN is not supported on the blackjack (I want to be able to tether my blackjack to my Dell Axim 51V).

From Platman's samsung link you can find this FAQ:
What Bluetooth Profiles Are Supported On My BlackJack (SGH-i607)?. At the bottom of the FAQ it discusses bluetooth DUN and says the blackjack has this capability? Is this correct? In my numerous attempts to pair my blackjack with my Axim 51V, the Axim doesn't see any bluetooth services being offered by the blackjack.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Murray

Being on WM 5.0 AKU3 OS, BJ's BT stack suports PAN service instead of DUN. Your Axim needs to have BT PAN profile support in order to use it.

I take it this is why it works with Mac's?

The FAQ entry at Samsung's website is inaccurate. The AKU3 build of WM5 (which the BlackJack uses) does not provide the BT DUN profile.

If you mean why it doesn't work with Macs, then yes.

If you tether the blackjack to your pc using PAN, will you be charged more for data or is this included in the PDA unlimited data plan?

Posted by: joesixpack1969

Here is how: call Cingular customer service and request the unlock code stating you travel often abroad and need to place different SIM cards into your phone. They will request the code from Samsung and it will get to you in up to 10 business days (sometimes within hours).

Here's the e-mail I got after 6 days of waiting...

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY AS THIS IS NOT A MONITORED MAILBOX

Your subsidy unlock request was received and processed, see below for details:

IMEI #: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Each IMEI# has a different code)
Subsidy Unlock Code:yyyyyyyy (I replaced the code with Ys - 8 digits total)

Caution: If this process is unsuccessful five times in a row, the phone will be permanently locked to the Cingular network. Do not attempt to enter the code more than one (1) time total. Instructions below will assist you in unlocking your device, if these steps are unsuccessful please contact us at 1-800-331-0500 or (916) 843-4685 from overseas.

Samsung (General)

From the idle screen with no SIM card inserted in device, enter #0111*CODE#, and then hit send key. Device should now be unlocked.

Tethering is not allowed with PDA unlimited data plan. You need use more expensive Laptop connect plan.

I guess you mean does not work with Mac. The anwser is NO, it will not work with Mac because Apple failed to implement PAN profile in Mac OS. PAN isn't any new BT standards. It's been available to Windows PCs for years. Yes, not many ppl use this profile but it still does not give Apple excuses not to implement it.
