I would like to know this too. I cannot get the picture full screen. When I select full screen, WMP skin disappears, but the display size does not change.

Don't beleive what you see in the commercials. Sales and engineering are two dufferent departments. Having said that , you can't do it on in WMP. If you are aching for it. Download TCPMP an do it there.

Anyone figure out how to use the phone to surf the web via ICS or other method using your own ISP? I ask because I had to sign up for the messaging extreme plan which does not include internet access as part of the package. I just want to be able to connect at work while I am in meeting to get updated news/stocks/weather/etc. Phone is great but our US carriers have crippled the phones so much...sure we get them at a discount, but nickel and dimeing us for everything really sucks....
Thanks.

There have been a few posts about a possible micro-SD form factor WIFI card that may be available "soon" that would enable you to connect without using cingular's network.

i just downloaded voice command 1.6 for smartphone to my BJ but got an error message saying "sp-full-version_not compatible with windows CE". I thought I had followed the advice in the forum. Can anyone help with this? thanks

Apparently Cingular/ATT is now giving away a FREE extended battery to those who didn't get one with your device.

See: https://www.web-rebates.com/cingula...kjack/Step1.asp

Assuming that this isn't some elaborate spoof, but I don't think it is.

Im not sure if this has been covered but is there a way to disable all the notifications sounds like when active sync is connected it makes a sound even though when in silent mode, and when you place a call it makes a sound also.
Thanks

go into profiles and whatever profile you use go to edit turn the notification sound to off.

I have had my mail going to my storage card for 3 or 4 weeks now using this tweak without any issues. In fact, this is the first that I had heard about it. I don't get many SMS/MMS messages, but have received 12mb attachements without issue.

I've currently got it set up like the following
Notification type - play sound as there is no "none"
Notification Volume - Off
but after I send a call it still beeps.. Any other suggestions

Move into a 3G area. Under GPRS/Edge, a phone can't do both data and voice at the same time.

If you are in a 3G area, I don't know why?

That was also true for me when I was limited to EDGE. But it does now work for me in the areas of Los Angeles where I live and work and in which 3G now has been rolled out.

Hi,

I just got an unlocked BJ and currently using T-mobile.

I see all the hacks and tips, but my biggest qustions are,

1. Do I have to suscribe to the data plan to access gmail (or any email accounts) on my BJ? The reason I ask is because when I tried to install GMap and Gmail, it asked for web address

2. If so, what plan do you recommend for T-mobile users? Would the customer service say anything about me having BlackJack and can't suscribe any service into it because it's not T-mobile authorized product?

Please advise, and thanks in advance.

As the BlackJack doesn't include WiFi ... the only way to get email/gmail is with a data plan. You'll have to change some settings to get the BlackJack to work on T-Mobile (google the settings - sorry I don't know them).

As for T-Mobile Customer Service ... they most likely won't be very helpful if you have problems, but they shouldn't give you any problems signing up for a data plan. For the data plan... I'm not familar with T-mobile's plans, but the more the better. I've got unlimited through Cingular.

Well, I wish I could choose to LEAVE the mail on the server even if I delete it on the blackjack. I want all my mail to be available at home and if my phone deletes it when I clean up my phone then I loose it forever!! We should have that option to never delete from server IMO

How do you have WiFi on your Blackjack? The only options I have are GPRS, Edge, and 3g. Or is that what you mean?

"SGH-i607 at Europe is SGH-i600 and we got it with 3G, HSDPA and WiFi..
So, in fact, american version is a bit different."

Damn Europeans getting all the good ish... the i600 has wifi, 400mhz, and a front-facing camera

can you point me to a thread that describes setting this up?

As far as I know, I have to use pop3 to retreive my emails?

Does my email host have to support this (or do they all?)

Just delete the account you created and instead of selecting POP during the creation process, select IMAP vs. POP3.

Posted by: kb9nvh

OK, stepping through the process.
Your in the messaging page which lists 4 items:
sms/mms
outlook email
other(pop3/imap)
new account

You click on new account:
You choice here is under "your email provider"
1) other pop3/imap, 2)outlook, 3)select email provider

from there on its asking for accounts and passwords and such. No discrimination between pop3 and imap.

SO. What am I missing???? There is no place to just choose IMAP??

no, no response...I have another question...I just got a replacement Blackjack (screen went bad) I cant get the volume as loud as my other one, I forget how I got it so loud.....I tried it in the profiles but thats not it...........PLEASE PM ME!!

something else I noticed when browseing the regsitry is that there is a file called "TomTomHome"!!!!

Does anyone know how to remove cingular bar from top of homescreen so you can see the entire wallpaper?Or a homescreen from somewhere else that is simple so i can add my own wallpaper?

Posted by: gacajun

I use Facade from SBSH, you can check it out here : http://www.sbsh.net/products/facade/ . You can customize it just as much as your schedule will allow. They have a forums area on the website where you can see examples with code so you can just use one someone has uploaded or build upon what others have done, that's what I did.

Try the Samsung Simple homescreen already builtin... Only a small bar at the bottom of the screen, plus the carrier alpha tag is tiny.

Posted by: GSpotFrenzy

would the registry edits for the tmobile dash from surreal networks work on the blackjack?

Posted by: akhawaja

This may sound too basic, but can someone give me step-by-step instructions on how to connect my blackjack with my laptop via Bluetooth? I have been trying for a while and it does not seem to work, and I would like to be able to sync via BT rather than a cable (too much hassle). Just so you know, I have a laptop and a USB BT adapter (external).

Is there a way to transfer ringtones from another phone to the Blackjack? The ringtones on the BJ are crap.

As long as you can extract the .mid's - I believe so.

Posted by: dpivarnick

Alright, I have read thru about 30 of these pages and I can see nothing about removing unwanted files from the Blackjack that are locked to free up addl memory. I have pics and tones that came with this phone that could be removed to free up memory - but via file explorer or Activesync deletion of these files is not allowed. Has anyone been able to remove these items? and if so, can someone clue me in to how to do this?

Posted by: Ghettopops

I believe app unlock is necessary along with a 3rd party program like Resco

Posted by: dpivarnick

I already did the app unlock and have already installed a few 3rd party proggies (PhotoContacts Pro, SmartTweaker, Google Maps, Opera, Don't Forget, etc) - and have performed registry edits, custom wallpapers and such. I am not a newbie. I am a former Moto user that was accustomed to using proggies like MPTools, P2K tools and other to unlocked system files so that they could be deleted. I am looking for something similar to remove these locked files off of the Blackjack to free up more memory.

I regulary clean up my memory for IE and Opera, but I was thinking that I could free up even more if I could unlock/remove all of the addl image and sound files that I do not want/need.

Posted by: DaveTreo300600

I have the beta version of Opera Mobile for Smartphone and love it. It gives me options for larger fonts than PIE and at my age that is really appreciated.

I have one question re Opera Mobile. It looks like the cache is in the phone memory rather than my storage card. Is there any way to put the cache on the storage card? If so, is there any reason not to so do?

Thanks.

Posted by: jeri534

could anyone recommend the best hacks/programs that everyone should have to get started? getting my blackjack tomorrow and would like to save wading through 71 pages to find all I may or may not need...

You need to set the connection to Media Net in IE to get that content. You might also want to check that you are connected to media net; settings/connection/wireless, the phone portion should say media net.

Good Luck

Does anyone know or think that the WM6 upgrade will improve reception on the Blackjack? Would a OS upgrade help that issue or is it the actual phone/antenna causing the problem.

I receive less than stellar reception on the bj, where on my nokias and other phones I get great reception. I like the bj and want to keep it.

Thanks

Posted by: shawn.wilton

I get amazing reception on the BJ. Much better than my t809.

If your reception sucks, return it and get a new phone. Better safe than sorry.

Posted by: kb9nvh

Are you in a 3G area? If not then turn off 3G and you will be happier.
THe blackjack spends time looking for 3G when none is available and it looks like its reception sucks...and it does while searching.

The bad reception is happening even when locked in edge.

Sorry if this has been answered before, the thread is getting a little big. How can I make a phone number be the default for my contacts? For instance, if a contact has a mobile and office number, how can I make the number I want be the first choice as I scroll through the contacts without having to open them and choose the right number?

Thanks.

You may know this already and I appologize if you do. When you open contacts, you will notice a list of contacts with letters all the way to the right (w,h,m) which stands for work, home, mobile). You can narrow the contact list by just starting to type the name (either first or last) of the person you are looking for. When the person you want shows up, if you highlight the contact you want (using the up or down d-pad), you can then scroll through the available numbers for that person by pressing the d-pad to the right (the letters will change from say w to m). When you come to the one you want, just pressing the green call button will dial that number. You don't even need to open that contact. I am pretty sure that the one you leave it on (w, h, m) is the one that will show up as default the next time you call up that contact.

I hope that helps.

Posted by: AsahiToro

Thanks Jeff,

I'll give it a shot. No I didn't know that. I got a refurb Blackjack and it didn't have a manual. I downloaded the .PDF version today and now that I have some time, I'm going to dig into the features more. My old phone (Audiovox 5600) had a simple preference to select the default number and it left it that way regardless of which one I used before.

Thanks again.

Ive read up to page 44 of this Blackjack thread, and still cant find an answer. Im using a blackjack on Rogers, everything so far is A OK except for the fact that my SMS messages are incorrectly timestamped (4hrs behind),

so lets say I get a txt message at 4pm, it will say I got it at 12pm, real annoyance

the time displays fine, just the sms messages, havenet tested MMS, as I dont use em

time zone is set correctly, auto update is off, nothing

anyone got any help??

Posted by: TerryMathews

Do you have any other phones that are not Rodgers branded or running Rodgers firmware and are doing the correct time on SMS messages?

Posted by: r-m0ney

ive had plenty of phones that are non rogers that ive used, never had this problem. Ive actually read somewhere of a couple people having the exact same issue with The Blackjack specifically where the phone time is correct, but sms messages are time stamped with the incorrect time. No one has a solution

Posted by: shawn.wilton

Usually the time stamp problem has to do with the cell network. You will need to call Rogers and tell them. I had the same problem on T-Mobile with both my phone and my girl's phone. Both were off by one hour.

Called T-Mobile, like 5 times, and they finally tracked it down to being associated with some cell tower in another time zone. Go figure. Anyway, they fixed it. I imagine you are having the same problem. You've been tagged to another time zone. Maybe...

I think it's a Rogers issue. I was up in Victoria last month and the Rogers system up there kept insisting on changing my time zone to some South Pacific zone like Midway Island or something. Since I've come back to Seattle no problems whatsoever.

I have a 3G card...didn't seem to make a difference.

Posted by: morficus

so I haven't seen anyone explain how to do this... just mention that they are doing it...

but how do I use files from the SDcard as wallpapers or ringtones without transferring them to the device?

[edit]
nvm... I figured it out...
so if you jump right to "Storage Card" you do not get the same options as if you go to "My Stuff" first

Posted by: finishim

is it possible to play the songs when viewing someones myspace with the blackjack??? thanks to any help.. says i need java but java is already on the phone.. if i need to upgrade.. how so?

Posted by: morficus

so I had my e-mail account working just fine up to Sunday. (educational IMAP server and gmail SMTP server)
For greater reasons.. I had to hard-reset my device. Now when I re-configured my mail settings... I'm not able to use gmails' SMTP server... I keep getting an error message.
I know it's the SMTP server... 'cuase I receive e-mails just fine... but sending is the issue.

Is anyone else having issues using smtp.gmail.com ? or is there any other safe, reliable and free SMTP server you can recommend?

[edit]
hhm... dunno why.. but now I'm able to send...haven't changed anything...
guess I'm just having one of those days... :s

Posted by: Josh256

okay, I just tested on Rogers (disabled TXTMan and used MS sms reader).. same problem.. interestingly reinstalling txtman the problem went away. Also all other MS accounts (some manaual, others SEVEN managed) working okay [correct time]. Looks to be a blackjack/WM5/WM6 issue since TXTman organizes the messages/posts using the correct times..

Anyone using the BJ on T-mobile, using WM5/WM6 built-in SMS reader and seeing the same thing?

If you go to a COR store (Company Owned Retail) they'll provide you one for free. However, yes, you do need a 3G sim to access the 3G network.

Posted by: bradleyland

That's bollocks. I used my old 32K SIM card I've had for years in my Blackjack and I browsed tested it at 1.1 mbps tethered in Ft Lauderdale, FL.

On an unrelated note, I have a relatively new BJ for sale with all accessories in original box..UNLOCKED... for 200 dollars plus shipping. Not needed now that I am addicted to my iPhone

Only to USA or Canada.

You don't need a special sim to gain 3G access. I use my old SIM card from years ago. I still get great 3G speed.

I'm not sure how many times this question has been asked, and I'm sorry if I'm just being repetitive, but how do I make it so that I can play the music from my storage card without having to manually play each song one by one. Like, how do I make it so that I can just press the "next song" button instead of having to go and pick the song from my storage card? Thanks in advance.

Posted by: Mab1376

i went to a non-COR store and they told me it was an $18 upgrade fee to get a 3G SIM card.

i think my 64k sim card will be fine though im gunna test the speeds and get back once i get my blackjack in the mail.

Posted by: shawn.wilton

If someone is telling you that you need to *pay* for something like that, then they are trying to screw you. I don't get why anyone would go to one of those kiosks in the mall. It's always going to be better to go to a "corporate" store.

Just add your music folder into your media player. It'll load up all the songs. You can even make playlists.

In Windows Media Player I just had it it "Add to Library" and it searched for all my music files that it loads up. Then just let it play.

Ditch the Blackjack Startup & Shutdown Screens/Sounds

If you find the startup and shutdwon screens on the Blackjack to be annoying, you can get rid of them with a registry change as folows:

HKey_Local_Machine>system>
-under system there are two entries: Shutdown and Startup
-under each one you will find an entry named 1
-under 1 there is a value name of Dll
-the default value for both entries is OemAnimationDll.dll
-change the default value data of each of those files (startup and shutdown) to the word none (I suppose null would work also but I know the word none does for sure)
-after changeing the value to none, back out to the main menu - wait a couple seconds and shut down and then restart, and you will find the annoying shutdown and startup screens and audio are gone.

When you shut down, hold the on/off button down for the normal 2-3 three seconds and release. At that point when you normally would have seen the shutdown screen and audio, it appears that nothing is happening, but just be patient and wait the few seconds a shutdown normally takes and the screen will go blank as the unit powers off.

On startup, you will immediately see the standard blue Windows Mobile Screen which will be there until the home screen comes up and loads. Just remember that it still takes the normal time to shutdown and startup. I guess all the startup and shutdwon OEM .dll files did was run in the foreground while the normal o/s functions ran in the background.

When I try this I get Acess denied.

This forum has had great info - thanks.
Question - I use yahoo mail on my blackjack. How do I set it up to automatically check for new mail every so often? Right now I have to hit send/recieve everytime I want to check my mail?

thanks

Posted by: player911

@putman
I don't think Windows Media player can make playlists. From my understanding is that you can make playlists on your PC, and copy them over (I dunno how that can work though).
I know they make playlist makers for Windows Mobile. I'm sure you can google up something. Your better off using TCPMP or The Core Player though because it supports more formats and does a better job.

@rosenrosend
If you set up your email through Messages, there is an option to set for the interval. You can set it up for 15, 30 60 minutes, and hourly and daily. There are lots of options. My friend has his setup every 15 while I do mine hourly. Depends on your email flow.

Posted by: player911

Here's a question that might be able to be answered.

When recieving an MMS message, replying replies as another MMS message. Most phones have the option to "Reply to MMS as _______ (SMS, MMS)".

Because if I get an MMS, I have to cancel out of the message, and create an entirely NEW SMS and dig through contacts and make a message to send.

They should have at least a menu item "Reply as SMS" or something.

Anyone know of a fix? I'm sure there's a registry change.

Posted by: rosenrosenmd

Thank you for the response about setting up email updates. I actually set it up via XM and just now found the place where I can have it updated every 15 minutes.

I have another question. When I try to download attachments from emails it tells me that the file is faulty. Is there some setting I need to adjust? The files will download to my desktop just fine.

Thanks

Did you guys find the hack I posted about turning your "My Documents" folder into your SD card?

There is no reason to have a "My Documents" folder AND a "SD Card" folder, when both are used for storage. The hack I posted lists a way to have 1 folder, labeled "My Documents" that uses the SD card for storage. That way you don't have to constantly move around if your beam files alot.

See I beam files over from my PC alot, and they always get transferred into My documents, THEN I have to move them to the SD card for storage. This save a LOT of time. I think I posted it in the Samsung forums.

A question to Blackjack and Gmail users:

Using pop3 and Gmail on the BJ, does anyone else have this odd problem where any sent emails are downloaded to the inbox? Meaning that I send an email to my buddy Sally, and Gmail does its normal task of saving all sent messages, for some reason the BJ sees the emails in the Sent folder as new mail, and downloads it. So now everytime I send an email, I have to delete it from my inbox 5 minutes later.

Anyone know of this problem, or how to fix it?

I am assuming that you are trying to send over the air through your ATT connection and not through a USB connection to a desktop.

You'll want to make sure that you have your login and password set correctly for sending email. Also check with your email admin and see if they are blocking sending email from non-company domains. This is often used to prohibit spammers from using someone else's email server.

You are most likely getting bad date/time information from a tower. Turn off automatic date/time updates.

Here is that hack for combining the Storage Card with My Documents folders

http://howardforums.com/showthread....=Documents+Card

The end result deletes the Storage Card folder... so all you have is the My Documents folder that actually is the SD card.

Its nice because if you copy over something from BT and it automatically saves it to My Docs... its actually saving it to the storage card.

Great hack. Several people were asking about this, so I did a search. Funny no one even replied to that thread.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

Has anyone ever tried summing up all the tips/tricks/hacks/etc into a guide or website?
The closest thing I've see is i607.org

I'm getting a new blackjack this week and would like to be prepared.
I think there are a few things that are good to set when you first setup your phone, like pointing to the microsd card.

Posted by: player911

i607.org is a wiki

Supposedly people are able to edit that site and add to it. It won't let me. If I edit a page and save it... it never shows up.

Posted by: RyanM

Been using my blackjack for about a week now and im kind of disapointed with it.

It rarely picks up 3g at my house (where edge service is terrible) and when it does get 3g it changes over to edge or gsm/gprs really quick...

My v3xx always finds 3g and rarely moves off of 3g.

Is the phone bad or is this how they are?

1. Connect to BJ via Active Sync.
2. Explore to movile device (click Explore in active sync from PC)
3. Browse to Windows directory
4. Select the file "BandSel.exe"
5. Right click and choose Create Shortcut.
6. Got to bottom of file list, and CUT the new "Shortcut to BandSel.exe" file.
7. Drop into the Windows\StartMenu directory where ever you'd like it. (I put it in Applicatins).

/off the AT&T forums.

After that, lock your phone to the 3g network.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

is there a "getting started" guide around here somewhere. I dont mean how to use the blackjack, but common hacks/mods/etc that are good to do when you first get your phone because it might be harder to hack/mod/etc later on after everything is setup already.

Also, I dont plan to sync outlook, I will just use the phone to check my pop3 email. Do I still need to use activesync for anything else?

So it is reccomended that everything on that webpage is done when I first get my blackjack?

Posted by: RCcola159

Not necessarily. Ask yourself if you really need them.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

Thats why I was asking

1. Does i607.org contain everything that is in this thread? if no, has anyone made a summary?

2. Are there any suggestions for hacks/mods to do when you first get the phone rather than later after you have all your data on it?

I've read through 1/3 of the thread so far, but if it is all summarized somewhere, then I wont bother reading the entire thing.

Posted by: player911

i607 is a good start... but I know it hasn't been updated in a while.

If you've already read 1/3 of this thread... then why don't you finish it up and start a collection of hacks and repost them.

go to mobile.surrealnetworks.com from your BJ and there is a .cab to do this for the SDA, it works for the BJ also.

I'm a little confused about this. What does this actually do for you? And how do you "lock your phone to the 3g network"?

I'm assuming this keeps the phone on the 3g network longer, but I'm not entirely sure...

and will this work with WM6?

Yikes! Did you see this link that was listed just a few posts up? It is listed all over this thread. Do some research. Help yourself.

Spoon feed:

And yes, you CAN go to a wap/mobile site with your PC's browser. So nvisi0n's information would work too, EVEN without a data plan.

Anyone know how to tether and charge the phone at the same time. I tether in "modem" mode under the USB settings, but the phone only charges in "Active sync" mode when connected to PC. I read something about modifying the Internet Connection Sharing file in windows. Well, I can navigate to the windows directory via active sync, but can't find this file or something similar.

Bottom line...I want to be able to tether and charge the phone at the same time.

Edit: Also, sometimes when I click on IE I get the following message "The remote party has ended this connection" And cannot connect for a while. Anyone know how to avoid this?

Thanks.

Just got my blackjack. Its working pretty well so far. I'm waiting on my microSD card.
The only problem I'm having so far is figuring out how to close programs. Things seem to stay open and I must go to the task manager to close them. Is there an easier way to do this?

Posted by: player911

There are some programs that make the "X" an actual close button rather then a minimize.

I don't really worry about it. Occasionally I'll go in there and close out some programs.

Posted by: Wide_opeN

From what I understand the BJ or WM5 software knows when to close apps and won't allow for your phone to crash or anything like that.

Don't worry about it, it's all being worked out in the background.

True. I never had it freak out or anything and in normal conditions the phone doesn't feel bloated or slowed down. I just like to keep it tidy.

On my PPC I usually have program that makes the programs close when pressing the "X". But then when browsing the web or something, you'd lose your page and have to start over, which is why everything just gets minimized anyway.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

I havent had anything crash, but I've notice a slow down.

For example if I check my email, open a link to the browser, then watch a video.
Then we have open Active Sync, Messaging, IE, and Media Player

With that alone, I can notice a slight lag with menus and such.
I am trying Agile Messenger so I usually have that open.

Then if I go to something like the camera, its very slow for me.

It seems like one or two things open is ok. the lag seems goes up exponentially with what you have open.

doing a "stop all" seems to fix it

Care to elaborate?

Posted by: RCcola159

I think he means the locking to the 3g network using the admin menu or badsel.

Sometimes you live in a 3g area, but your phone still uses the EDGE network. So locking will allow you to use the 3g connection.

Posted by: Enrico Ng

People warn to backup your BJ before you try anything.
I'd like to do this but I dont know how. Is there a program that will make an image of what is stored on my BJ now that I can restore if I screw up something?
or by "backup" do you mean just save a copy of your contacts, favorites, etc.

What exactly does a hard reset do? if you've changed something in the registry does it restore that too?

I might take a look at this too as it'd be nice to get internet sharing working. Although it will likely be in the official release.

Those are the i600 WM6 Internet Connection Sharing files for use with the i607 WM6 update (that lacks it). Paste all those file into the \Windows directory and now WM6 will have Internet Connection Sharing finally.

I tested it at work up until the point where my PC will see the BTPAN network and connect. There is no phone service here so I can't see if the connection actually works. I don't see there being any problems as the 2 devices paired up ok using a BTPAN.

Would have to import one from Outlook PC?

Those are the i600 WM6 Internet Connection Sharing files for use with the i607 WM6 update (that lacks it). Paste all those file into the \Windows directory and now WM6 will have Internet Connection Sharing finally.

I tested it at work up until the point where my PC will see the BTPAN network and connect. There is no phone service here so I can't see if the connection actually works. I don't see there being any problems as the 2 devices paired up ok using a BTPAN.

i can not even find the file folder called windows, using windows mobile device center...any ideas why not and how i can go about setting this up?
thanks

In folder options, you have to turn on the option to show system files.

how do have all email attachments and temporary files from the gmail pop3 use the memory card instead of the phone memory?

I just added some new home screens to my BJ (from http://www.kooldezine.com/Q.htm). However, after installing these new screens, I am no longer able to dial a number directly without having to look up contacts. Also, hitting the green "Call" button no longer brings up the Call History. Even though I can probably get used to it, is there a way to get this to work that I am missing?

TIA.

Anyone have an answer to this question?

I just picked my Blackjack up today and have a couple of questions. Is there a way to set pie to go to a home screen like google. It seems like both the IE and media net icons take me to the same place. Also; whenever I exit medianet and go back it refreshes back to the home page. It makes it a pain to follow scores. Is the anyway to not have this happen. Most smartphones usually do not do this. Thanks for the help.

Is there a way to have the blackjack display names with first name first and last name last? instead of last name first.

If you change it on your pc in Outlook, you can do this

Also, lon the BJ itself, if you edit (or enter) a contact, you can change the display name order under the "File As" setting for the contact.

Want to improve the reception on your Blackjack?

Are you using the extended battery and cover?

I have found, through quite a bit of non scientific testing in an area with marginal coverage, that the standard battery and cover get better radio performance than the extended battery and cover.

I am not sure if the larger battery interferes with the antenna, or if the larger form factor with the extended battery cover encourages you to hold the Blackjack in a way that causes the antenna to get blocked more than with the regular cover.

So, I choose batteries depending on whether I am going to be in a poor coverage area (such as my home office with a metal roof) or if I am going to need max battery life, and rf doesn't matter quite as much.

It sounds like you flashed to Wm6, and restored your contacts from a backup (that were backed up from a Wm5 load).

I had this happen to me when I flashed Wm6, but used a backup that was from my Wm5 load. The only way to fix it... is to sync all your data with Activesync, hard reset the phone to factory defaults, then sync your data back to your Phone (contacts, messages, etc).

Any data backup will cause bugs like that when you backup/restore across a multi-platform.

so what does it bring up now? Pressing the Green Call history button should always bring up Call history no matter what "Home Screen" you use.

Unless he screwed up some thing in the registry by restoring an old backup.

Like Shotta said, you should always be able to do those things. Thats why I think you mucked up your phone. Backup with Activesync, default it, and start over. This time don't restore anything other then Activesync files.

Thanks Player911 & Shotta:

Actually I had not flashed to WM6 (haven't got around to doing it yet) but last night my BJ powered down (out of juice) as I was on the road. Normally it stays up for at least days before I reboot. And I noticed that the problem is now gone. Just so you now when the problem did exist, it would not allow to me press Green Call button to bring up recent calls. Instead nothing happened (home screen remained unchanged) and since the most recent thing I had done was to update home screens, I incorrectly attributed the problem to that. Turns out all that was needed was a reboot! After all, it is a Windows powered device. Lesson learned! Thank you both for your help.

On a separate note, I was hoping you could answer an unrelated question. On WM6, I have heard that there is a built-in SIP client. Is that true? Is the built-in client configurable to my settings? I have been waiting for a BJ-compatible SIP client that I could use to make VoIP calls to home (I have an account with a SIP provider from there) because all other VoIP providers are still pretty expensive for my home country. I have already tried fring that came closest to what I am looking for, but even that does not allow complete configuration of SIP settings on client. Support ticket to Fring confirmed this is not available yet. Any help would again be appreciated :-).

TIA.

MediaNet just opens IE to the MediaNet home page. If you want to go back to it without reloading to the MediaNet home page open IS and it should open to where you were. Also my IE homepage is the Favorites, not sure if that can be changed.

No the unofficial WM6 client doesn't have any SIP settings. Although it may be in the official, but I doubt it. Seeing how the update will pass through AT&T, the last thing they want you to do is making free calls.

There are lots of SIP's out there like Skype and Fring, plus more. I personally do not use VoIP solutions, but I'm sure there are lots of issues relating to your questions in the threads here. You should do a search and see what you find. I've heard of some really good ones but I cannot remember them.

Not sure if this has been asked & answered already, but... does anyone have recommendations for anti-virus sw for the Blackjack running WM 5? Is it even needed? Thanks in advance!
