Just want to know if we can say for sure if the problem is being on the border line between 3G and Edge.

After a handful of responses, maybe its not as bad as it first sounded.

I'm 20 miles out of NYC and there is no 3G have been playing with my new gadget for two days now and battery has lasted overnight. In fact I had two bars when I went to sleep last night...received a ton of missed calls and text messages from one of my un-married friends and I had two bars when I woke up.

I work 20 miles out of NYC and live in NYC and I dont have issues. YES, the battery initially drains pretty fast but I have found that once it gets to around 60%, it stays there for a while. Obviously if you are using the phone non-stop it is going to drain the battery, but I feel that the BlackJack is no better or worse then the 8125 was on battery life.

My 8125 battery experience was much better than the Blackjack using Direct Push for mail. On the 8125 I could get 2 days out of a battery, granted that was on the EDGE network. If I use Direct Push on the Blackjack I can only get about 10-12 hours on a full charge (of course this is on the 3G network). Setting the sync options to sync every half hour instead of "when mail arrives" has drastically improved the battery life. 7 1/2 hours now with those e-mail settings and that battery is still at about 90%. Of course this works fine for the weekends, but during the work week it will be another story. I wonder if setting the sync to every five minutes would still yield better battery life than "when mail arrives".

In my short four days of ownership in a now pretty solid 3G area in and around WDC, I'm getting a 1.5 days between charges. I use to have a TyTN when 3G in my area was first rolled out and the transitions from 3G to Edge killed the battery quickly and often hung the phone up. Now a few month later, the coverage is better and the transition does not hang up and changes seemlessly. I don't know if that's because of o/s improvements or the improvement in the 3G coverage and system. BTW, I using an AT&T sim. While the battery life is ok, I still plan on investing in an extended battery for piece of mind. I am on a company exchange server and have the mailed pushed as it arrives and make/receive 25-30 short duration calls per day and other than Newsbreak, haven't hit the web that much since I got this.

My Blackjack arrives today. I work and live about a mile inside the 3G border so hopefully I'll get a good idea myself what the battery is like soon.

I am pretty sure that this is a 3G issues specifically. I work in a 3G area and live in an edge area. Thurs and Fri my battery was dying rather quickly while at work. Over the weekend I spent most of my time in E country and had very little problems. My battery lasted all the way from Saturday morning fully charged to this morning at about 9am.
I am put the extra battery (fully charged) at 9am and will see what I get back at work today.
I am also hoping that conditioning the battery will add a little to the life as well.

No 3G at all in my area. Used it heavily today at work. Tethered over BT for about 1.5 hrs, browsed the internet for about 45 minutes, talked for about 30 minutes, pushed and sent email to/from an Exchange server, and had it polling a POP account throughout the day. At 30% now, started with a full charge.

Battery problem in non 3G area. I have been in a Cingular store 5 times, and I never see any battery power left in it. On weekends I have went in the mid-morning and the other 3 times, on lunch around mid afternoon.

Well I've had mine less than 24 hrs but I don't see any battery problem at all. I let it charge to 100% when I first got it before playing with it. Yesterday, around 7 PM I pulled it off the charger and its saying at 7 AM today that I've got 30% left. Here's what I did.
15 mins on 1 phone call
15 mins of web surfing (3G)
6 txt msgs (sent / rec'd)
12 emails (pushed from Good)
20 minutes of video watching from storage card
30 minutes of playing games / fooling with the settings
Bluetooth was on the entire time
Not what I'd call great but its not bad either. The first few days I played with the HP 6945 the battery wouldn't make it 12 hours and I didn't use the phone as much as I did the Blackjack last night. The HP got better after a few days and I'm hoping that a couple of days of full charges - full discharges that I may be able to go a full day on one battery.
Being a mile (both work and live) inside the 3G border, I never saw it switch to edge and dsl reports was showing speeds from high 800s to low 900s.
