i tried to add it to quick launch when you hold scroll wheel but the closest you can get is adding the windows folder and still will have to scroll all the way down to internet sharing. anyway know how to make a shortcut to it? |

It seems best to just plug in via usb modem, use cingular connection manager.....that way your battery actually CHARGES while you're online.

Anyone else with XP try this and successfully get their BJ to charge *and* keep their shared connection? I've stopped doing this because I don't get it to charge, and the speeds are slower (~480kbps/120kbps shared, ~790kbps/230kbps as a usb modem). |

I have the $39 data plan, which from what you all are saying is "without tethering". I don't really plan on using the tethered setup that often, but I rather doubt that they can tell whether the traffic coming from the BlackJack or the PC - it's all TCP/IP, and everything from the laptop is going thru the BJ's IP interface. Any further info on this would be interesting, though... Thx |

With the bandwidth usage, especially on the Blackjack, how much a difference can it be? XM Radio, even the trial, gives you a warning that it uses a lot of bandwidth, and I'd assume that Cingular Video does. And like someone said, if all your doing from your computer is web browsing and e-mail, that could be done on the device itself. As could video and audio streaming. I'm not so concerned about them "knowing" and if I had to I would buck up the extra whatever it is a month for tethering, but I don't want to assume that like with my 5600, everything will be smooth. Basically, I just want to know if anyone who has posted here and done this, who DOESN'T have a specific tethering plan, has been charged for the data. I know that theoretically, according to the ToS, they can terminate your service and blah blah blah, but in reality, have they done that? Or charged? If I get my bill and everything is ok (which I'm hoping) I'm going to assume that they can only really tell if you are tethering if you download and install the Cingular application for doing so. |

I was able to get internet sharing working on a mac over Bluetooth. If you have OS-X 10.4.9, you can do it very easily. No modem scripts required! (1) From the Mac, initiate the pairing process with the phone. It will say the phone doesn't have any supported services, but then the last page of the Bluetooth wizard will say it supports a Personal Area Network. (2) Open the "Internet Sharing" application on the phone. Use the File Explorer to find it under \Windows. (You can use another program to make a link in your Start Menu to make it easier to find later.) (3) Change the method used to connect the computer from "USB" to "Bluetooth PAN". (4) Click "Connect". (5) On the Mac, click the Bluetooth menu on the Menu Bar and select "Join Network on [device]". (The Internet Sharing app on the phone should now say "Connected".) That's it! The only problem is that internet doesn't appear to work on the phone while the computer is connected. I was also able to get this to work at the same time as Missing Sync, which works with Bluetooth as of version 3.0.2 (currently Beta). Earlier versions don't work, because you had to turn off the antenna to use bluetooth. |

I had a heck of a time forcing it to work with my Vaio's integrated BT adapter, and am just going to buy a new dongle that comes with it for my desktop, both running Vista.

How can I determine what version of Windows that I have on my BJ and how can I fix this? I want to be able to use data and make calls at the same time through my BJ and from what I gather the Internet Sharing program is vital to that. Not sure.....if anyone else can give a better explanation it would be appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT: Also, I downloaded the Xpress mail to get email. However, I deleted it due to finding out that they charge for you using the program. If I have the Media Max 200 package, could I setup my email and not get charged any extra? I won't be using the Xpress Mail service.....just manually setting things up. Thanks again! |

So a lot of things got slagged and I'm slowly trying to get things back up again. One thing that DOESN'T work is Internet connection through the Blackjack. I can pair the phone and the laptop via Bluetooth, I can TETHER the phone, but after it connects (takes a LONG time to assign an IP number), no internet. It's as if it only has the PAN capability and knows nothing at all about the Internet. Looking at the SUPPORT tab on the Bluetooth PAN dialogue, it shows the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP number, but no gateway, etc. I cannot figure out how to get back to what I had, and I think the Cingular/AT&T support folks would rather DIE than support anything other than "AT&T Connection Manager," which is garbage. |
