S55 Battery life, GPRS and other rants

Ok.. I've had the s55 for a little over a week now and I have some observations and questions..

1 - battery life with Bluetooth turned on is horrible. The max time I get is 1.5 days when Bluetooth is on. About 4 days with it off.

2 - I started at v04 - GPRS worked fine. I moved to v07 - GPRS did NOT work when connecting to Tungsten T. Upgraded to v08 and GPRS over BT to TT works again.

3 - How come there are no indications of where a contact is calling from. What I mean is if I have a cell number and an office number from Jon Doe stored in my phone, when Jon Doe calls it doesn't show you which number he is calling from. All it shows is his name. Am I missing something?

I second that. But what is estrange is that some users report they get at least 2 days with it.

Glad to hear that others have been having these problems. I've since retired this phone to my desk drawer and have gone back to my 6310i.

I've found that you can't say anything bad about this phone without drawing jeers from the "fans" of the phone. People get rather emotional about this stuff.

But you're right: the phone is less than I thought it would be.l

Standby is not reliable until you have charged it for 15 hours the first time and then fully dis-charged and charged the 5 next times.

The S55 I use last for about a week

Apparently the s55 reaches full battery capacity after 5 full drains and charges... I go 4-6 days on 1 charge and Bt always running

The S55 should last long, as long as you have charged it properly. About half the complaints (if not more) about battery life are due to inproper charging the first time, and the first few times. When the manual says charge for 15 hours the first time before use, it doesnt mean use it after 2 hours. A lot people are just too ignorant to read the manual, or are just to excited, so they just charge it for a couple of hours and mess up the battery memory (For NiMH) or just plain mess up the batteries potential. Not that im acusing any of your guys of that, im sure you guys are smart enough to follow the proper procedures for battery conditioning.

The s55 battery is a Lithium Ion... I don't think they come with NiMH...

Ya, but u still mess it up if you dont charge it properly. NiMH is worse, but at least lithium ion is more durable.

maybe and this is just a guess... but perhaps doin a few full drains and charges may help... dunno. I have been fortunate and get great battery life out of mine

I don't know what the big deal is with battery life anyways. So long as you can get at least two full days I think that's good enough. It's very easy to just recharge it then overnight.

Another topic. Has anyone noticed that no matter how good the reception is in a certain area you still don't see all 5 bars.

LI-ion batts do not have a memory effect, so you can charge it all you want, it will not get messed up... there is nothing you have to do to "properly" charge it.... just plug it in whenever you feel like...

p.s. mine lasts around 3 days with approximately 1 hour of talking a day....

seems like most of us get good battery life... for those experiencing really bad battery life maybe contacting Siemens may help... you never know.... maybe a complaint or inquiry could lead to a free battery or sumthin???

I could try it, but the fact that the phone is not even projecting his release on my country makes me wonder...

I say a phone should give at least 4 days of battery life with roughly 20 mins/day, just my opinion, yours may be different, and thats cool. The reason why is that i live a busy life, and ive had a phone that has given me 2 days of battery life with about 20 mins of talk time a day, and i found it not enough. I constantly found my self in the car on the third day, having forgotten to charge it so frequently, with a dead battery and not being able to make important calls when i need them (just my luck, lol). I think 4 days would give me the time to remember to charge it, rather than two quick days. Of course it would be smarter of me to place reminders on the phone to recharge, but im not smarter. My 2 cents on batterly life!

PS: My S55 gives me the 4-5 days i need, hehehe!
(Keep in mind i dont use BT, i can't afford a headset right now, but HBH-60 is what im gonna get when it comes out )

I run BT all the time... there are days when I will talk about 60 min total on the fone and I still get amazing battery life. If I pull 4-6 days like I have been doing as of late then that is good enuf for me. I rarely turn my fone off either. I don't use the flash on the camera much or surf alot so maybe that's why I get great battery life. Seems like most of us get great life and a minority don't... I still think those that get really really poor battery life should contact Siemens and try to get a replacement.
