Cingular 8525: Question about UMTS Speed

I just got my 8525 this morning. I signed up for a new account and the rep added the PDA unlimited w/the 1000/text msg bundle for $50/month. In the upper right hand corner, I have a big G. I noticed on some of the pics on this forum that people have a big U.

Is my internet plan not provisioned correctly? I know 3g is available in my area... I had the blackjack previously and it had 3g in the corner. In my home, I dont think I've ever had 3g come up on a 3g capable device; instead, the EDGE system is available.

On my new 8525, I'm not even getting Edge... anyone know what might be wrong?

THanks.

Please check around and you will see some threads around here regarding the same topic ...

Even tho the manual says E, actually there is only "G" for GSM/GPRS/Edge and "U" for UMTS/HSDPA .. on the TyTN/8525 .. You can confirm this by checking the speeds over at dslreports.com/mspeed ...

You also need to confirm that your area has 3G .. which area are you in?

thanks for the information. I called tech support and they had no idea on how to fix this issue.

the first thing I did when I got home, was went to dslreports.com/mspeed and ran a test. I was wonering why I was getting about 168k when it says g at the top.

I do know for a fact that my area does have 3g. I drove around my area for a little bit and well... the U showed up.

I ran another speed test and it clocked in at 898k a sec.

thanks again for the info. I am good to go.
