heya i just got a nokia 6590i about a month ago and i am starting to notice that the RF is not that good... i used to have a nokia 3390 on fido and now i have the 6590i unlocked on fido and the signal is not as good and the sound seems to cut out more! also i notice when the phone is ideling the signal is quite good but as soon as i make a call the signal drops quite a bit, and the 3390 when i make a call the signal actually seems to get better!
i find this weird cause every one says that the 6590 has better RF than the 8390? im not sure if i have a faulty model but it is kinda annoying when my 6590 cuts out when my 3390 works fine! i payed $350 for my 6590 and i expect it to work better than the 3390!! lol... anyone noticing the same problems?
and i am wondering what the newest firmware is for the 6590i?
mine is- 40.41, i am not sure if this the newest or not, if it is not can i go to a rogers store and get the newer firmware for free?

any help would be appreciated!

Is the 3390 TDMA or GSM?

really?!

i've a 6590 instead of a "i" but then i found that works fine for me. but what i heard before is what Fido usually have their phone which works the best for their network. so maybe that's the reason Fido didnt release 6590i??

The only difference between the 6590 and 6590i is that they enabled the 850 MHz on the 6590i. It could be that you are operating on an 850 cell site in your area. The 3390 is only 1900 MHz.

just because the signal bar fluctuates shouldnt make you nervous about your rf qualites of the phone. if it sounds better or if you can still make and receive calls in the same area then it doesn't matter. a lot of the time the signal bar doesn't mean crap.

hey cooldude, I have a 6590i on Fido (my first day with it actually). I had a 3390 before as well. I find this phone's RF MUCH better. On the 3390 the sound was good and would waver often, but I'm having no such problems so far with the 6590...

cooldude- your post is alarming as I am embarking on purchasing a 6590i next week. I can only hope yours is an isolated case ? If not, then I'll be seeking Nokia Canada as well :-(

ok sorry if i alarmed u all but just from my experience i find the rf on the 6590 to be average... i find that if i touch the antenna well in a call the signal drops quite a bit, sometimes ill sit in the mall food court where there is only like 1 bar of rogers ill put my phone in my pocket and then ill take it out a few minutes later..then it says no service, i have no other rogers phone to compare to so... but i was comparing my old 3390 on fido to my 6590 with fido sim and i noticed that on average when the 3390 has 4/4 the 6590 has 5,6/7, i was at a fido booth and the worker showed me his 8390 that had 4/4 3390 had 3/4 and 6590 had 4,5/7 i know this is not the proper way to test the perfomance of a phone but that was my only option at the time, overall the signal on the 3390 seems a little more stable, for example ill make a call with 3390 cover the antenna as much as possibe and listen and see if the call cuts out alot, i did that at my house today with both phones and the 3390 maintained 2 bars and the audio seemed stable, 6590 on the other hand the signal was 1 bar and the audio broke up a bit, but if i dont touch the antenna at all the 6590 holds onto calls slightly longer, maybe the 6590 just has a REALLY sensitive antenna... i dont know, maybe my phone is defective for all i know... maybe a firmware upgrade would help? there is a newer one but i am not sure if it is wasting $25 cause it is still pretty new.
