I got hired as a RSR in cor store. Do I have to join the union and if do you think it has some negative effects (of course not officialy) if you want to move up into management later and what are the average cost of the union per paycheck? Thanks.

Actually you don't have to join, but you still have to pay union dues. Might as well join them if you are still going to be paying them. I became non-bargained easily after the union, it makes no difference in moving you up the ladder, it's just a harder process to go from unionized to non unionized and then back.

Actually it depends on what state the OP is in. At my call center, I don't belong to the union and I am not required to pay dues.

Correct, if you are in California, you must join and pay dues, in Texas, you do not have to pay dues, but are still covered by the union as a bargained employee. The only benefit to joining th union, is to get union discounts and invited to certain union parties during the year.

It was the exact opposite for me in NC. I don't have to pay union dues, but they make me follow the stupid union rules!

iowa doesnt pay dues either but we have been union since feb 14th and i have no clue who my rep is he spent 2-3 days a week before it was union but no one has seen him since....someone said his number is disconnected...strange i think.
