Google Maps 1.4.1 available here

Google has released Google Maps 1.4.1. This version seems to address the sluggishness of the 1.3.x series of releases. And, although Google has a GPS-enabled version of Google Maps for Helio subscribers, enabling GPS on these versions seems to have no effect.

Basic MIDP1 Version:
JAD JAR

Advanced MIDP2 Version:
JAD JAR

Note: These files have been renamed for use with ???JAL.

Thanks for the heads up MC

The links in the sticky have been updated as well...
It appears this build releases memory used (perhaps it was garbage on the serverside) much better and reduces the chance of the app "hanging" in mid redraw.

The major difference between MIDP 1.0 and MIDP 2.0 version is access to device functions. The MIDP 2.0 version allows for "one touch" calling of any telephone numbers it displays for instance. (I use, and have linked to the MIDP 2.0 version in the sticky.)

I'm afraid we might not see GPS on apps like these until Moto adopts an "open source" JAVA engine on the handsets. (Linux)

For security purposes Motorola requires developers to submit some sort of "needs assessment" and undertake a contractual relationship before it gives up the code that allows an app's class file access to certain radio functions and system file API's.

This may be well and good for commercial apps but I suspect it is too costly for apps that are distributed "free".

The reverse may be true with Helio... Being a new "kid" on the block Helio's SOP's can be written to accommodate new paradigms. Hell, it may have even paid Google to develop the program for it's device, I don't know.
