8525 and Voice Command 1.6?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: dsajadea

I have been using a T-mobile Pocket PC phone with VC 1.01 for the last 3 YEARS . I have finally upgraded to the Cingular 8525 (should be here in the next two days). Can I run VC1.6 on the 8525? I'd love to know before paying the $10 for the upgrade.

Oh, and I started with a data plan that is just 10MB. Will I be able to tell when that is used up? Will it just stop working or will I get a gynormous bill from Cingular?

Thanks much,

Dawn

I am using VC1.6 seems to work ok. A bit slower than 1.5 but i have not had enough hand time to really test.

As far as your data plan. I have unlimited. So i could not tell you. I can tell you i do use it alot. So I would think you are going to get a hefty bill I would upgrade. I use my 8525 for everything. I mean everything so I am on there chewing up the data all the time. I use it more for that than I do for a phone.

Voice Command is shown as a downloadable program on the 8525 CD. No mention anywhere in its description, nor under the details about purchasing it, or it being a trial version. The link brings up a Microsoft error page, and after installing VC 1.5 that I own it attempts to check probably the same site for the 1.6 update and repeats the error. There is no link to Voice Command currently in the Windows Mobile main page and a search produces another error message.

In your cingular account online, you can check usage. I think there is also a number that you can call from your phone to check as well.

So no limitation on VC1.6 and the 8525? Did you get the hack to let you use the PTT button for it? How's it work over BT?

Wirelessly posted (HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

I'm using 1.6 and it works perfectly.

I know this has been discussed already, but I can't find it. I just got the 8525 can somebody please help me with what i need to do to make voice command 1.5 work over bluetooth? (Moto H700)

I know it's some kind of registry hack. Also, if you have a link to a free registry tool that would be great. I have never done registry changed before so the easiest way would be best. Thanks!

Also, is there any reason to update to voice command 1.6? I read where the 8525 will not work with 1.6 over bluetooth. Of this is true I guess I would be better off just keeping 1.5? Or this there some other reason to upgrade.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

Yes. I followed the instructions on XDA developers to disable the shipped voice dialer app and installed Voice Command. Seems to work though I've only been playing with it not really trying to use it day-to-day (yet).

The MS error page thing just happened over the weekend. I downloaded the 1.5 upgrade on Thursday or Friday. I couldn't get it to install due to a different problem. When I went back to the same page on Saturday - it was gone. Everything VC has been moved from MS to Handango and the 1.6 upgrade. I can't get the 1.5 setup to go through now so I might have to upgrade to 1.6. I am hoping to use a BT earpeice - glad to hear it works.

FWIW, I have not tried BT yet... I do hope that works though!

Looks like 1.6 doesn't work correctly with BT

I really need this to work before I buy the 8525

Here's something to chew on. Just upgraded from 1.5 to 1.6 on my 8525. . . First Uninstalled 1.5 then reinstalled 1.6 . Now I have no sound out of the device at all Bluetooth is disabled and I haven't connected my headset to the phone since installing. . . . did a soft reset of the devie and got sound back until I recieved a call then no audio out of the device again. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm using 1.6 and the 8525, but when I hit the "voice dial" button on my headset, Voice Command does start but it activates the speaker and mic on the phone not the headset. Once it dials the call that will come through over BT.

Even the notifications refuse to go over BT no matter what I set, I hear it open my BT but it still goes over speaker.

Does it work over BT for you? Which headset do you use?

This seems to be a problem with 1.6 - see the thread at xda developers

Now that's odd, I got notifications working just fine, only the command processing itself would NOT use the BT.

Has anyone tried the fix posted at http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...t=283412&page=7 ?

Posted by: MrDSL

Yes just installed VC1.6 then ran cab from above link and phone calls work fine with my BT800.

I have not tried anything else since thats all I use it for really.

I figured this thread was a good of place as any to ask:

I thought I read somewhere that VC was supposed to announce the incoming caller.

It does but I have not tested to see if it announces over BT headset. I have the option turned off though.

Posted by: nutnbolt

Wow, so VC works with 8525 with issues. Is that what I'm reading?

Posted by: MrDSL

I have not done any extensive tests but VC1.6 with my BT800 works fine as far as doing phone calls. I just haven't done any notifications but I'm sure them do not work which isn't a big deal for me I just want to make phone calls via BT and VC and that does work now.

Whats the difference between the internal voice dialing? I know when I press my jabra jx10 for one second it activates voice dialing on the 8525. Of course as long as I have "trained" a name in my contacts.

Posted by: MrDSL

Umm its ten times better then what comes with the 8525 since you don't have to train anything. I click my headset button and I can clearly hear a BEEP when VC activates then I just say a name of my contact like

"call tim on mobile" and then it repeats it back to me and I say "yes" and it dials..

VoiceCommand requires no training and is speaker-independent. MUCH better, though the gyrations for Bluetooth are a bit painful to setup at the moment. It does MOSTLY work with the hacks from xda-dev in place though!

Aside from Voice Dialing. what else are we looking at to make this better?

Huh? The builtin does ONLY voice dialing, right?

VC can do a few sort of interesting things like respond to "What are my appointments today" "What are my appointments tomorrow" etc. It can also voice-announce your upcoming appointments (only when on BT if you wish). Mainly in my book it's for greatly improved recognition - those tag-based systems are Ok, but can be very sensitive to background noise, and they are fundamentally tied to pre-configuration. VC handles any contact as you add it, no need to tag a contact just in case you want to voice dial it some time.

VC can also dial arbitrary numbers via "dial 5551212" spoken commands.

I'm glad I found this thread. Cingulars description leads you to beleive it comes with Voice Command! See pic:

So what exactly can it do, straight out of the box?

Thanks in advance.
