SE K800i or the Sharp 903?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Angelguy_3

I currently have the Sharp 903, the camera quality is really good. But I am thinking of selling it and buy a SE K800i. Which phone do you think is better? And why do you think that particular phone is better. Thanks for your help guys.

You are asking this in a sharp forum of course we going ot say sharp. Sharp just so much superior in every possible way dont compare with junk like k800. k800 only beats sharp in night shots thats about it, but morning shot sharp beats it by a long shot. no phone can compare with the 903. i sold the 903 to get the n73 now i'm using both (mainly 903)

Posted by: shaznizzle

hahaha true.... however, sharp is better in pictures and videos.... but i prefer the UI in SE phones..... oh welll both is great!!! but I'll keep my 903 not because its a phone.... its because its a rare limited phone... priceless.

Posted by: azn_boi_128

i got both and i would say the 903 is a better phone

if u like batterylife K800 is better for me the K800 is a 2 day phone
903 is a 1 day phone

903 takes wayyyyyyyy better pix
K800 takes better night time pix but the 903 isnt bad

video 903 kicks the K800

K800's UI is easier to use cause it tells u what it is tho the 903 isnt hard its simple clear and quite easy to use and very organized

overall i still like my 903 more
but the K800 still has the better battery life and its smaller....

sharp 903:

better, bigger screen
better camera (same resolution, but better quality shots)

se k800:

better media support (music etc)
a2dp?

My choice is 903.. but that's just me.

Posted by: zippoKC

i had a sharp 903 and i sold it for a k800i.

the 903 is much better camera wise and can display mp4s.

k800i interface is so much easier to use.
mp3s go on them with no problem.
it has a proper flash.
smaller.
better bettery life.
more accessories.
more compatible with applications.
stainless steel (???) cover.

but.... i'd rather have the 903

swapsies? (i'm serious btw)

Posted by: essense

what about N73?

Posted by: azn_boi_128

903 > K800 > N73

N73 is one of the worst i'd say
very slow symbian ....
k800 is easier to use yes but if ur a newb then u'll find the 903 hard
the 903 ui isnt that bad the only prob is 903 u cant put ur games on it

N73 is a smart phone but hte thing is .. slowwwwwwww camera isnt up to par big big pixels and major distortion

Posted by: brianccg

If i were u , I will keep 903 if u want a best quality of pic

Posted by: xinhang

N73 is better than k800 for sure. n73's picture is actually really clear imo, compared to sharp its not that great but its good. and symbian is fast, depend on what memory card you use. if you use a crappy brand it will hang hte phone but if u use a fast one like sandisk ultra II its better. and n73 you can have 2gig memory instead of one, which is awsome making it a great mp3 player and the sound is really good if you buy yourself a AD-15 if u buy a no name brand then you are screwed.

i got a N73 w/ 1gig high speed 60X i use the same card for my sharp 903
tell me that i'm wrong but i know that symbian is slow. K800's camera is about the same as the N73 both those camera have high noise even in daylight go look at gsmarena's review of n73, K800 the n73 is obviously worse. just by pressing the camera button w/ the camera lens open the N73 is much slower then the K800 and fliping to camera mode from 903 is quite fast as well speed wise for camera K800 > 903 > n73

for overall speed the K800 at times can be laggy but overall fast just dont muti-task. the n73 once u press the menu wait a second before it can do anything. 903 snap done alot faster

music wise K800 has the better interface. N73 yes it can hold 2 gig thats good but the speed of it is the problem. 903 takes no time at all once u got the playlist made up

speaking from a person that has all 3 phones i know which one is better and N73 is not the best its 3rd out of 3

Symbian (and in this case S60) is NOT fast. Give me a break please.

You just have to load up some function from a menu and watch each part of it load up in sections like a computer (the title, then the icon near the title, then text appears gradually, etc.), and about three seconds later the function will have loaded.

Nokia has been making improvements to speed up S60 and I've seen it get better, but it's still awfully slow compared to an assembler OS-equipped phone.

903SH wins handsdown. people love the 903SH cause its different. it take sa different breed to use a Sharp.

agreed, symbian is poop; and counter-intuitive. I looked forever for the in-call volume control on my wife's 6630... ended up throwing it in the trash.

Yeah, it's that kind of stuff that amazes me with S60, simple settings are impossible to find. Like you say, it's ultra-counter intuitive.

And yet, I see every man and his dog (<- this is an Aussie expression that means 'everybody') using a Nokia N70, which has one of the poorest implementations of S60 ever. This is all thanks to aggressive marketing campaigns by the tel companies' outsourced companies in India ringing up people like me at 9pm at night asking if I want a free N70 on contract.

Oooh, that was a nice rant. See I'm capable of them too sometimes...

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

Same thing with moto, wicked, "ultra-counter intuitive" menus.

Posted by: xinhang

S60's UI is better than vodafone's for sure. i like the 903 better because its bigger :d and i like big things because i lose the small ones. but symbian phone is alot better in terms of the applications and games avialable! you can play lumines on symbian phoens which u cant on the sharp 903. only complain i hv for the 903 is i cannot play games boo

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

Somehow I can play games on my 903 and some other people too. Besides 99,9% of people isn`t buying phone to play games. PSP is much better, trust me.
S60 UI is NOT better than Sharp UI. Maybe for some symbian fans but not for typical customer. Just compare basic things like finding desired number in phone book or writing and sending sms. Count how many times you have to press different buttons on keyboard or browse through submenus. Not to mention overall difference in speed. In daily use S60 is PITA, that`s why there`s so many second hand S60 phones in gsm shops. People are buying it (because they think it`s cool and exclusive device) but after a while they`re selling it. I don`t have to tell why.

I've owned both and I prefer the 903 since the camera is better and the form is different. Bar phones are boring and now that the K790a is released on Rogers... Every1 has it. The phone is too common. The 903 is rather rare or getting rare. The UI is slightly better on SE's but not that much better. I find that they are quite similar in their ease of use. If it wasn't that great on the 903 I wouldn't have kept it. I've used SE's for a long time and I've tried most of their models and I can still say that the 903 is a better phone. If you're lazy then the 903 isn't for you since ringtones can be a hassle.

I hate to say this, because I also own a 903, but the Picture I compared from K800i were better than 903's pics.

omg is you stupid? do you have glasses on? do i have to type in kindergarten to tell you that k800 looks more smudgy than 903. you dont deserve this phone.

wow .. speaking of kindergarten...

I still can't fathom paying the same price for a 903 as the k800 and jumping through all the hoops to get games, ringtones, movies to work right on the phone because of the firmware.

I like it a lot though and have been lusting after it for the better part of a year, but that amount of work reminds me of Windows Mobile. It's horrible out of the box, but after a LOT of elbow grease it's a good smartphone. Maybe I am lazy, or maybe I just expect it to be good out of the box for that much.

Posted by: totaltoanage

that was supposed to be the irony.

Posted by: manchuia

it's an internet forum.. all ironic and sarcastic remarks need to be either a.) absurdly over the top as to erase all possible doubt or (better) b.) marked with their appropriate \irony \sarcasm tags.

HAHAHAHAHHAHA... sorry ... yeah .. i get your point. Cam is fantastic on the Sharp, I guess I am just lazy, but I will prolly buy one. Reception wise, how do the two compare?

Aha, nice to know, but for the next time let it be, please!

Posted by: totaltoanage

did you guys see the blurry smudges on the k800? i know im not the only one.

reception for tmobile is clear since its triband, but with cingular which uses 850 mainly it blows. you would have to be out around town for the 1900 to kick in. some places only use 850 i.e. residentual.

Posted by: manchuia

yeah .. the k800i is 900/1800/1900 so I was comparing the two for tmobile (I never roam onto 850 so I just need a good 1900 performer). I see the blurriness, its minor and somewhat worth it when you realize that the night pictures are k800i hands down

I don't take night pics, but that is something to be considered when comparing the two.

Posted by: totaltoanage

if i needed to take night pics, i would take it with my digicam, but on a normal day to day basis, the 903 wins in photos.

Posted by: dimension6

And the N95?

if I had a digicam on me, I would use it to take the day pics as well I don't carry a cam outside of my phone.

903 & K800 > N73 (slow crap)

I would say 903 and K800 are both nice phone.
- 903 unique but expensive, K800 popular but price reasonable. (both won)
- 903 fewer games, themes..etc, K800 bunch of games, theme..etc (K800 won)
- 903 bigger screen, K800 smaller screen. (903 won)
- 903 nicer pic in day, K800 nicer pic at night. (both won)
- 903 MP3 is weak, K800 MP3 is strong. (K800 won)
- 903 less accessories, K800 bunch of accessories. (K800 won)
- 903 price is holding good, K800 price drop like crazy. (903 won)
- 903 is a more solid phone, K800 back clip will loose day by day. (903 won)

So I would say they both are good phone, personnally I would pick K800 coz it's easy to change the case (just order it in cnn), but 903 can not or you have to pay a leg and a hand if carelessly dropped it on the floor...

And N73....is a good slow phone for my grandma..

Posted by: totaltoanage

903 is actually pretty solid, i dropped it once or twice and theres just some scratches, also you can change the case but yeah it costs kinda alot, $50.

Posted by: marco712

I think the 903 (with the exception of the red) looks more classy and can be used with business.. whereas i've always thought SE phones looked like they were marketed more towards younger people who want something flashy.

I have a black 903 and a k800... so usually when I'm working i use my 903 , but when i'm out sometimes I'll take the k800

i stills ay 903 wins hands down because of longevity.. with SE i'm constantly worried about the joystick sticking...my friends had his k800 for only a fwe months and his is sticking...

Posted by: azn_boi_128

903 all the way no need to explain no more we said enuff

Posted by: manchuia

azn.. I am actually enjoying the different opinions. While most people have picked the 903 (expected in the Sharp forum) it seems rarely that it's the (technically) best phone. It looses to the K800i on multiple fronts (as an older phone really should), but strikes some chord with the owner.

I encourage more people to just express their view. This is one of the "calmest" threads on phone comparison that i have seen in a good while, and, again, I really appreciate all the testimonials.

edit: more comparison on RF would be brilliant, btw. That is one of my concerns with Sharp (never owned one) don't know how strong the 1900 is for tmobile compared to SE (traditionally weak, I have found)

Posted by: azn_boi_128

^ buddy i understand

i myself have all three phones K800, 903 and N73

i compare them myself

tho i would say i am biased for sharps with out that in mind i would say the 903 is better... i love cameras the K800 just isnt up to quailty yes it is easier to use if your a totaly noob to phones .... K800 has A2DP which is very very good

i have the HBH-DS970 a2dp headphones GREAT for my K800 but the down side that 100 dollar m2 card was and still very expensive the 903 mini sd was only 40 bux for the 1 gig cost of the K800 is more

YES the K800 has more stuff for it... what mroe do you need? a2dp headphones are not even nessasary they just look cool. headphones .... other then that what do you need? silicon case? they got for both? u want to put ur phone on a desktop charger both phones have them too....

really if you think about it for the avg person a non-noob to cellphones the 903 will be better on euro fw there is no restricitions for mp3 other then VBR

unless you are used to using sony ericssons switchin to sharp might be hard cause of themes, easy of use and overall change

for example i drive a VW Jetta GLI 1.8T w/ a HPA turbo upgrade. when i had a corolla curtesy car i hated it. tho ppl who drives corolla loves their car. its just change

for those ppl who loves their sharps they wont switch and like it ....

its hard to say who will like which phone but generally you use one brand you tend to use the same cause its easier.

Posted by: ngomberg

saw this on "new posts"

just got my k790, and i love it to pieces.
and unless you have 3G service, no point in getting the K800...do the 790.

Posted by: azn_boi_128

^ ROFL true true

K790a is a lot more useful in canada then the K800 but .... K800 has better price and 1/2 the ppl dunt care about the 850MHz lol so yea...

Posted by: shaznizzle

honestly i just LOVE SE UI... Sharp's is a lil too dull... and technical.. but im used to it.. lend it to the other guy, he goes.... HUH??? Ahh?? How.... do I...??? LOL.

Posted by: azn_boi_128

^ thats the good party about it lol ppl wont use your phone hahah

well, depends on the coverage quality you want, and, depending on where you go theyre the same price. got my 790a from sony canada (sony store) for 460+tax $cad when the 800 is $cad500 for an extra camera and other crap u cant use.
