(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i ordered mediamax tonight and i dont know what im doing. I have an 8525. I have heard that mediamax has cingular video and a bunch of stuff on it like comedy and whatever but i cant find anything on it. Only thing im thinking its good for is the data so i can surf the net.

am i doing something wrong or is this just how it is?

Does medianet have anything good on it or does everyone just get it to browse the web for $30 instead of paying $50 to browse the web?

To use Cingular Video, you need a phone that has the Cingular Video program on it. The 8525 does not. The plan you have has nothing to do with what programs you have on your phone. The plan gives you unlimited data. Then you can install whatever programs you want on your phone or use whatever programs already came on the phone. So if you want to watch video, install a program that streams video, or find a website that has streaming video.

Download and install "RealPlayer for Pocket PC 1.1 Preview Release" from here:
http://www.real.com/realmobile/down...0PC%2520Devices

In RealPlayer on the TyTn, got to Options>>Preferences>>Network and change the type to 802.11B

In IE (on the TyTn) point your browser to: cingularvideo.cingular.com

Then simply click a link, it will ask you to download a file, check the "Open file after download" box and click yes.

That's it.

As some of you have discovered, you might be able to get it to work on the TyTN/8525 with a MediaMax plan, using wap.cingular, and the Cingular proxy server.

Those of us on PDAConnect will not be able to get it to work...

Wirelessly posted (whatever the next lines says: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

why not just stream video from the various sites that are out there. or buy mobitv

I ran in to a snag with this. When you go cingularvideo.cingular.com it says somethin like "You must have a 3G phone to view this content."
I knew I could get there with desktop browser and my Treo browser, so I figured the 8525 was identifying itself as an 8525 to Cingular. And it is.
You have to use a registry editor to change:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\

If I remember correctly, you just have to change:
(Default) from "HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0" to just "Mozilla/4.0"

When in doubt, go in to the folder "Templats" and copy the settings from either "Same as Windows XP" or "Same as WIndows CE" to this directory and remove any that aren't in one of those templaes.
The Windows CE one would be generic WM5 PPC devices.
The Windows XP would be to simulate being a desktop browser.

I just used the settings in "Same as Windows XP" because a few sites were irritating me by feeding me ONLY mobile site and I wanted to get to the real site. This setting works for getting to Cingular video, it lets me through now.

I use resco explorer. Before changing the settings I did an "EXPORT" of the ...\User Agent\ folder so that I could restore the settings back to orig. after making changes.

It works. Click on a link and it launches Real player. The content is pretty lame, though. I'm just so used to slingbox quality this stuff looks pretty low quality.

When I do this, I can get to the Cingular Video site, but then it tells me it cannot verify my account information even though I have the Media Max 200 plan on my account...Anyone else run into this? Thanks.

anyone else have tis problem?

Posted by: alexdell

I was able to connect to Cingular Video with MediaMax after making the suggested registry changes.

Now, I can not connect to my Slingbox which previously used to work. I'm getting the error ""Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings."

My current connection is the "MEdiaNet" settings instead of the "MY ISP" settings.

Please help.

Alex, have you had other 3G phones from Cingular?

Posted by: alexdell

This is my first 3G phone.

It seems that Slingbox does not like the proxy setting. If I choose "My ISP" then slingbox works. So I'll leave at that unless I need to connect to cingularVideo then I'll switch to the MEdiaNet settings.

I just wish that there was an automated way of doing this.

Same here. Playing around with the registry, but I'm getting nowhere.

ninja, I think it might have something to do with me not having a regular 3G phone on the account already, but I'm not positive yet...
