I get Notice: Sorry, your device does not support Blackberry Maps at this time.

I'm currently running 4.1.0.351.

why use this over google maps?

EDIT: OH now i see its much better but how do i get the internal gps to work with bell mobility?

Posted by: Synncere

I dug out my 8700r and downloaded it from blackberry.com/maps with no issues at all. So far it seems to be working great. I use this app on my Pearl all the time but I'm glad I have it on the 8700r as it is my backup device.

Does internal gps work?

Has anyone been able to install bb maps on their 8700 running BHARTI OS?

Posted by: Synncere

My 8700r is running Bharti OS vsn 4.1.0.351 and it works.

Very odd. I have no clue why it won't let me download.

Cool app. I like the feature to select an address from your address book.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

The purpose of the bbmap on 8700 is to use it with bt gps receiver. I don't have a bt gps so I can't test it out. However, the UI is much uglier than google map thou.

I am using the 8703 running with TELUS, and the internal GPS is working fine, with very quick reading of the cell(A-GPS). It is generally much faster at grabbing positions than the true GPS built-in to the 7520 iden device.
The "email location" function however sent me this link...http://maps.BlackBerry.com?lat=45.4...n=-75.61467&z=0

Are you on Telus out east, or west?? Do they all have GPS on Telus... Mine is only 2 days old. Time to figure this out!!!

Posted by: tonydrone

has anybody on Cingular been able to get this to install?

JIBI over at bbforums was kind enough to host an ota that works just fine.

bb maps

is it cool to quote yourself ? ;-]

YAYAYAYAYA it works on the 7130!!!!

Posted by: bonjoey

it works on telus 8703e using the internal gps and also on globalsat bt-338 (much faster)
but if you use tomtom, iguidance or mapopolis before, this is not a replacement.
its more like a 2005 pocket streets. its not bad if you just use it once in a while but it needs voice instruction and re-routing for directions.

Works fine on my Cingular BB7130c, downloaded from the www.blackberry.com/maps link OTA.
I like the google version for the "show traffic" feature. I agree this is not a replacement for a real GPS, however I use it pretty extensively when I travel and have a rental car with no GPS. Anyone know if the 8800 is going to have the GPS feature enabled?

I've also got the internal GPS working on my 8703e from Telus here in Calgary...but I agree that it is much better using my external Bluetooth GPS unit (also a Globesat bt-338) which I bought for my Blackberry Pearl.

One question...I find the internal GPS takes forever to lock onto a signal, and then it drops it, relocks, drops continuously (every 5 seconds or so). This really makes for poor guidance. Anyone else seeing this??

Posted by: tahmz

you can always just use googles maps, google.com/gmm also wayfinder is great if you want to pay for the service and you want it to work with a gps unit

newb question, i want the new Curve, which can do BBmaps. If i already have a Globstat BT338 receiver, what maps should I use on the Curve? Can I use Googlemaps to do real time navigation? (google maps + Curve + BT338) Thanks much. Ive been lloking for a reason to get rid of my Dell Axim which I only use for BT navigation with Iguidance software.
