There are two restrictions with the free mail2web: 1) OWA access only; 2) no reply-to address. Here is the workaround: use Outlook or Outlook Express to access your mail2web account. I'll use OE as the example.

Add a new email account in OE
Server type - HTTP
Server URL - http://exchange.mail2web.com/exchan...me@mail2web.com
Email address - username@mail2web.com
Reply address - your own email address

Then, you'll see all the folders, including calanders etc. and now you can do mail locally without having to go through OWA.

The good part:

Your out messages will have your own return email address, not the user@mail2web.com

You can save all the messages to your computer, just select the messages and drag them into Local Folders

You can view your contacts, calender, tasks, notes, etc.

Out messages are uploaded to the Sent Items folder

When you delete a message in OE, it'll be deleted on mail2web as well

If you opened a message on your mobile device, the message is then no longer highlighted in OE. If you opened a message in OE, your mobile device will show as opened as well. But this is pretty much the best it can do about flag syncronization, see below.

The downside:

It is basically POP3, not IMAP, so message flags are not syncronized with mail2web server. This means, if you replyed a message on your mobile device, it won't show as replyed in OE. Vice versa.

To me, I mainly use this trick to download my messages into my local computer. If you've been using POP3 (not IMAP), this is all you need and will be very happy.

Another way is to use the free Pop2OWA freeware, then you can use any mail client such as ThunderBird.

All such methods use POP3 as a gateway to access HTTP mail. I've been searching for an IMAP gateway to OWA, so the flags can be syncronized. So far no such a thing. The only thing I found is the Izymail, which allows for IMAP to HTTPMail (such as Hotmail and Yahoo), but it does not support OWA. There is also a Linux OWA-IMAP project, but I don't use Linux.

If you find a IMAP to OWA gateway, please let us know.

So does this create an exchange account on Outlook and sync calendar, contacts, email, tasks??? I entered the settings and it only gets the email to work which was already possible with a POP account.

No, no Exchange, no IMAP, just POP3. But you do can view notes etc.
