On the Cingular site, it shows $549. That correct if I buy retail at a Cingular store?

What device are you talking about?

LOL - I guess that would help - 8525.

Yes, $549 is the price with no contract.

So I tried to go buy one of these this weekend. I have a corporate phone, so I am a member of a national plan. My plan administrator won't let me purchase the phone because she doesn't understand that I can unlock it and use it on the Blue side.

Anyway, the store said they couldn't sell it to me since my line of service is on a national group plan, and I couldn't but the phone without a line of service. Is that true? Or was the guy just not willing to sell it to me since he wouldn't have made a commission?

You nailed it. I went to Tysons Corner and another store today, and the w/o-contract-price ranged from $650 to $1000. WTF. I kindly explained to them the online price, and they told me to **** off. I was kind of amazed they were so rude. In fact, I was so stunned, I was caught speechless, which is rare for me.

I guess it'll be a call to Corp tomorrow.

Everyone needs to start going in there with no contract pricing at the tip of your LIPs. Give them all the intention that you want the contract pricing and tell them if thy have any live stock to open the box and play with, and then "BAM," I'll take it, you can read the cards w/ no contract on it. Also if you are a good fibber, inform him that you work for Cingular and don't go into any details before they catch you in a lie, like "where?"

you must have went to an agent store because COR stores dont randomly mark up their phones. they have to sell their phones at whatever price OPUS says to sell it at.

agents obviously do whatever the heck they want which is just another reason why Cingular should get rid of ALL the agents altogether. the world would be a much better place w/o agents.

**correction*** Everyone needs to stop*

this is why I absolutely dread going to those hole in the wall stores. One by me is called "Wireless Hut" (lol). I just can't stand the overall feel of it in there. Of the 3-4 measly demo units of devices they display, you would think they all got ran over by trucks 5 times. The agents MOST of the time are just doing whatever they can to snag a commission from you. Nothing else.

The no contract price is $499.99 for the 8525. I bought mine at a Corporate store at Rt. 50 & Lee Hwy. in Fairfax, VA. The other corporate store I have dealt with is on Rt. 50 near Fairfax Circle. The employees at both stores have been very courteous and knowledgeable.

When I walked in last Saturday the manager said the price is $550 w/o a contract - I told him that's wrong - he checked the SKU and it is $499.99. He apologized and brought out pre-printed price tags that showed the higher price. I think these are just new product roll-out issues.

prices vary from region to region because the no contract price for my (central FL) area is 649.99

now that is nuts. there is no way I would ever pay that for any cell phone.

Hey Rob, glad you were able to buy your device there. When I tried to buy at retail, they wouldnt sell it to me. I ended up having to open a new account to get the 8525.

Hi Husef,

I don't understand how a Corporate store could refuse to sell you an 8525 at retail price - assuming you have an existing Cingular plan. I don't use the "authorized" retailers because I got the run around in the past with them.

They said the price with a "new line" of service is $450.

Plus the $50 rebate.

On the premier site I have access to it is shown for $410. On the cingular site full retail I notice is $550. When the store called it up in the system it came up as $499.99.

They didn't sell it to me because they weren't going to make any commission. I talked to a rep the day after it was released and they said they had a good amount in stock. The rep even sounded really proud on the phone... I guess he had the extra jolt of pride considering almost every Cingular store in the area didn't have it or they were already sold out.

As soon as I asked how much the price was at full retail... he said, "Oh... um... sir could you hold on one second?" (pause) "I'm sorry sir, we aren't authorized to sell them until Monday." I knew that was a bunch of bologna but oh well.

I ended up going to a trusted authorized dealer by my house (I had to wait til the next day for their shipment of phones). I decided to just get a new line of service to get it at the cheapest price possible. But, I am very happy with the device... oh the troubles you must deal with to get a "hot" item.

any chance you have that SKU? It was the Tysons Corner (mall) corp store - not an agent - that refused to look up a price, etc. Let me be clear that certainly has not been my past experience with the agents in the store. The two to whom I usually speak are professional and also gadget geeks.
In any case, this freaking Treo 650 is ticking me off. Sometimes won't even turn on unless I yank the battery and replace. Need a phone ASAP!

SKU for the 8525 - 64572 - from my receipt - $499.99.
