Blackjack Activesync problem. Please help!

I have installed and re-installed activesync and every time I connect the phone, it says connecting and then says that the device cannot connect. I get the "connecting noise", but it can't find it. The computer sees it, but won't connect. Cingular tech support (useless) said to call microsoft.
Anyone had this problem?

Disable your firewall/AV software. There's probably some TCP/IP port blocking in place.

There is some information under the A/S problems section on the MS Mobile site under Active Sync that discusses firewalls as Thinlyveiled has pointed out. It provides instructions for setting exceptions for A/S to run without having to shutdown your firewall each time.

Thanks for the info. I will check with our tech.

I am having a similar problem. I just traded in my 3125 for the blackjack yesterday and here is what I am experiencing:

Note that I never had ANY problems with 3125 connecting and syncing. No firewall issues.
I connected it up and it found it, partnered with it, synced, everything seemed to be just fine.
Then i loaded the disc the blackjack came with and installed some of the additional SW, notesync, modem driver, etc.
Rebooted and that seemed to be when the problem came up.
Now when I connect via the usb, I get a new Local Area connection, connected at 10mb, not sure if I got this initially when i hooked the phone up nor not. Activesycn connects says phone connected, looking for changes, then it just changes to Not Connected. Unplugging the phone, and plugging it back in will just do the same thing.
I have tried deleting the partnership, re-doing it. it seems to want to re-partner sometimes, but sometimes will not find the phone. ultimately, this will not fix it. If I disable the Local Area connection that it starts up when connecting it will not connect to activsync at all.
Not sure what the heck is wrong with this, but I have NEVER had issues with Activesync b4, so this is weird.

i have also having issues with AS. i have my Pocket PC connecting just fine, so i dont think it is a port issue. I have connected the phone before as well.
I dont get the connected sound from the computer, instead, i get a fast 3 tone sound (sounds more like a sound that would indicate an error) but the phone makes the proper sound for USB (XP Pro at work). Because of this, it wont charge, either, over USB - i have to switch to mass storage mode in order to get it to charge over USB.
I have never had ANY issue with AS until the blackjack. ALSO, my home computer runs vista, and the mobile device manager wont find it either. I found the same new connection at home (disabled it) but i DON'T have it at my work computer running XP. Frustrating

My activesynch proplems were solved with a download from the MS website. Not sure if it is updated or maybe the version on included CD is bad, but as soon as I downloaded the latest version all the activesync issues disappeared.

Posted by: ricoks

OK, now it works. not sure what i did different (i did a bunch of diff things). It could have been updating AS to 4.2 from 4.1, tho, like you cardio. I now have the additional network connection from a mobile device like what was mentioned earlier - not sure what it does, or needs to be there for, but it is counting the amount of data that it is sending/receiving.
thanks to all the offered help

I seem to be able to sych calendar and tasks but not contacts.....any thoughts? Just want to get my contacts on to the phone.... )

Posted by: tykymy

cardio - did you download a "new" 4.2 from the website or the beta 4.5?

Posted by: mwilkes

Ricoks - When you stated, "now it works," were you referring to syncing in Vista or XP? I have the BJ and cannot get Vista's Mobile Device Center to see the phone. Any info regarding this is greatly appreciated.

Did anyone come up with a fix for this issue? My 3125 syncs fine, the Blackjack does not connect. Running Activesync 4.2. I've deleted Activesync and all partnerships and reloaded. No difference. 4.5 beta does not help either.

HELP!!! I'm about ready to throw the Blackjack out the window.

I am once again (maybe still) haveing issues with activesync. I have the activesync set-up icon on my desktop, everytime I use activesync I have to run the set-up activesync command and then I can sync both of my Blackjacks until I log off the computer, as soon as I restart or log back on activesync message tells me no connection. I run the set-up and all will work again.

Frustrating!

I wish I could get that far. No sync at all.

I just put my 3125 back in and it synced fine.

I had a major problem when I would use active sync. Every time I hooked up my phone it would go to blue screen of death and reboot and shutdown my entire computer. I tried deactivating my firewall and shutting down System Mechanic 6 but to no avail. So I had to uninstall System Mechanic 6 and then everything worked find.

Posted by: webini

The only difference I see with the Blackjack is that for some reason it tries to create a new network connection during the activesync setup. My 3125 does not do that.

Between IT and myself, doing swap-tronics with just about every combination of PDA, Smartphone, and computer/laptop imaginable, we think that the problem has to do with a combination of Activesync 4.2, Windows Mobile 5.0, the Blackjack (hardware level), and the version of USB of our host computer. Simply put, it seems to us now, after several days of trial, error, machine rebuilds, etc., that my Blackjack will properly "partner" with Activesync when the host computer is connected via USB 2.0, but not USB 1.1. You would think that a USB 2.0 driver would be backward compatible with 1.1. Yet, my Blackjack connects with EVERY USB 2.0-based computer it's been attached to, but not to any USB 1.1-only computer.

Lettuce know if anyone else has experienced similar observations...

That can't be it. My wife also has a Blackjack, and she's syncing with a 5 year old laptop that only has a single USB 1.1 connection. I am all but certain it's a firewall issue.

Posted by: Omega2008

I had this problem with an MPx 220. Believe it or not it was a software issue and I just hard reseted the phone. Once I did that it worked properly.

Posted by: iJITSU

FYI- i had a similar problem. Narrowed it down to NoteSync. Had to uninstall NoteSync and ActiveSync and reinstall ActiveSync to sync again.

Posted by: pepperboy

It's true (at least for the combination that I listed in my post). It's been a perfect record so far: 8 USB 1.1 hookups: 0 partnerships ; 6 USB 2.0 attempts ; 6 partnerships established. And...all the USB 2.0 connections had Windows Firewall turned on! (Have not yet installed Notesync: why install it when I was struggling so much getting even Activesync to work?)

Posted by: webini

No Notesync here. My work PC is USB1.1 and I got it to sync. Disabled all protocols from the Local Area Connection that was created except for TCPIP. When I plug in the Blackjack it then attempts to snyc and fails. Remove cord from Blackjack and plug back in. Syncs then every time.

So the issue is not USB1.1. Sounds like there are several issues.

Adding to the list of folks with some version of this issue.

ActiveSync worked fine for weeks with no problems at all. Then on Thursday it just up and quit recognizing the BlackJack.

Had the same weird LAN Network connection show up as others.

There haven't been any software changes on either machine. Not running NoteSync. Running Activesync 4.2.

Any thoughts deeply appreciated.

Please Help!! I have spent over 4 Hours with Samsung Level 3 Tech Support and nobody can help me. I have downloaded activesync from both the disc and website more than 4 times each...deactivated my firewall..removed my palm T/X sync software..usb port works fine with all other hardware and rebooted computer 100 times. When I plugin the balckjack through the usb port activesync does not recognize the balckjack. My windows"found new hardware" wizard pops up. Have tried to sat up from that window but will always get a windoow pop up "files needed" The File'rndismpx.sys' on Windows XP Hotfix- KB909394- Source Files neeed or usb8023x.sys. It asks to type path to find file. and that's as far as we can go. I willing to pay microsoft $35.00 if they can fix the problem but I'm not sure they can. I am running Windows XP Home 2002 with Service pack II updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The BJ works perfectly for me under Vista RC2 and the Mobile Device driver beta 3 package. My only problem was with the OneCare beta 1.5 firewall that created problems. My quick solution was just to disable the firewall for a few minutes while I did my daily sync. The MS onecare beta forums had some ports and rules to tweak, but those didn't work for me.

Note I can't get AS to work properly with Vista RC1..it sees the device but won't sync with Outlook.

Had the same problem today on my primary PC. Just would not see the BJ. The laptop did, though, no problem.

Downloaded Active Sysnch 4.5 (beta) and it worked. PFM maybe?

I'm also having trouble with active sync out of nowhere. I'm wondering if the new windows security update has anything to do with it.

Activesync 4.5 beta did nothing to help the problem for me.

I had the same problem syncing as above.

Go to Microsoft's ActiveSync help & how to here

Then scroll down to troubleshooting. My problem was ZoneAlarm. I had to add the 3 AS components manually. Which is strange since I gave them access when the ZA prompted me.

Hope this helps

btw - I am using 4.5 beta

I agree with whoever said there are different issues causing the BJ not to sync. I had issues where the BJ would not get recognized on my old computer which was usb 1.1 and activesync 4.2 from install disk. I was using the built-in XP firewall and it was set as an exception. Tried every trick in the book to get it to work and the only thing that did was an uninstall and reinstall from the disk. Still can't get a handle on why though.

The BJ syncs fine with my new computer with activesync 4.2 and usb 2.0. Except the other night it didn't get recognized and I said here we go again but I just unplugged the usb cord and plugged it back into the phone and it worked.

I'm not trying to be a smartass here but has anyone tried to reboot the computer and then try to sync? I fix computers on the side as a hobby and sometimes when people come to me with problems with software and say this use to work or this use to print the first thing I do is reboot everything and see what happens. Alot of times thats all there is but alot times its more involved.

There is a very important thing to note if you use your Blackjack via Bluetooth for Activesynch connection and Internet Modem connection (e.g. for computer to connect to Internet). While both of these functions are supported via the Blackjack, these two connection modes cannot be used simultaneously.

When you use the Internet Sharing application to connect via Bluetooth (Personal Area Network or PAN) you computer can connect to the Internet. When you use hte Activesynch connection, you can synch your Blackjack with your Activesynch to synchronize Outlook, for example. BUT YOU CANNOT DO THESE THINGS SIMULTANEOUSLY. If you connect via one mode and then try to connect via the other mode, the second will fail.

This is probably even relevant to users who do not even use the Internet Sharing mode. This is because the default mode for the phone is Internet Sharing.

When I got my Blackjack, I installed and set up bluetooth/activesynch multiple times. I would get it to connect but upon retry, the activesynch connection via bluetooth would fail. The phone would try to connect but the activesynch application on the computer never responded.

I solved this problem, however. It looks like many people in this forum are having similar issues--although they may not have issues that are related.

I have found that when I try to connect activesynch via bluetooth, the connection fails, as stated above. BUT IF I THEN CONNECT INTERNET SHARING AND THEN IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECT IT, THE ACTIVESYNCH BLUETHOOTH CONNECTION SUCCEEDS.

My guess is that the Internet Sharing mode is the default and the phone is polling to see if it should connect. Therefore, the activesynch connect fails unless to deactivate the Internet Sharing connection first.

If have been doing this for six weeks now and it never fails. If your activesynch cannot activate the PC application, try to connect/disconnect Internet Sharing and it will work. You do not need to de-install/re-install the activesynch app nor reconfigure bluetooth.

Please note that I am using the most recent Activesynch version. I downloaded it from MS.

How to fix activesync

This is a fix for activesync 4.5 (you can download it at the Microsoft website) I don’t know if it will work with other versions but it might.

First go download CCleaner this is a cleaner that will clean up cookies and ddls you don’t need.
Uninstall Activesync, and then run ccleaner select issues to scan for unneeded ddls and reg entries, delete all activesync files.
Next go to start, run, regedit. Choose edit, find, type activesync in the box and search, delete all activesync files, keep hitting f3 until it tells you that it is through searching the reg.
Then reinstall activesync.
This will get rid of all activesync files on your computer including ip addresses that may no longer be correct.
I worked on this problem for more than a week, staying on the phone with Samsung, and Microsoft until my ear fell off. By following the steps above you can fix activesync it a few mins.
Enjoy.
Leave me feedback and let me know if this works for you at blazer_72@bellsouth.net
Good luck.

If you're like me, you've probably already spend hours searching the web for a solution to connecting your blackjack or blackjack II with activesync . After going through every solution on the web, contacting AT&T , and finally Samsung level 2 support, I was finally able to connect using the following steps:

1. Disconnect your device
2. Select ‘Start…Run…Services.msc”
3. From the list of services, stop Symatic & windows firewall
4. Try reconnecting device and establishing a partnership.
5. If connects as guest, disconnect device from PC.
6. Delete all partnerships from the mobile device by opening “MS Activesync…Menu…Option…Menu…Delete”
7. Select ‘Start…Run…Misconfig”
8. Select the ‘Startup’ tab from the System Configuration Utility and Selecct “Disable All”
9. Select the ‘Services’ tab from the System Configuration Utility and uncheck Windows Firewall, then Check “Hide All Microsoft Services”, then “Disable all”
10. The system will prompt for a reboot (required)
11. Log onto the PC and Windows will launch a message regarding the System Configuration Utility, select ok, then cancel on the next screen.
12. Open Activesync from the PC and connect your device… a partnership should be created.
13. If this does not work for you, contact Samsung via your services provider and more Level 2+ support.

Essentially this solution disables programs that could be running in the background and preventing your device from connecting.
