Overheard a call that got transferred to a manager today. Customer escalated over an account that went to collections in 2004 and wanted an explanation now. Whatever made the customer wait two years to resolve a closed account??? Got to wonder why.

Thats nothin. I had to take a call for an account that went to collections back in 1998, and the guy just found out about it because he was *dun dun dun* trying to buy a house.

I agree, that is even more amazing. I guess that some folks think not paying a past due balance has no financial consequences.

Doesn't that clear off the credit history after 7 years anyway?

That question is better answered by a credit agency. I filed bankruptcy in 1994 and I still can't get a credit card from Sears.

Bankruptcies are cleared from your report after 10 years. Depending which state you live in, any negative reports should drop off after 7 years. Also, never speak to a collection agent or acknowledge that the debt they are calling to collect is yours as it may reset the collection time frame. Have you checked your credit report? The fed allows consumers 1 free report from each of the 3 main agencies every 12 months. https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp My suggestion is to do one every 4 month from a different company.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't care about Sears, got alternate credit cards that I could use instead. My FICA score is excellent so I could care less about a Sears credit card. By the way, they were one of the credit cards I had to file bankruptcy on so I am not surprised.

I can't either. I'm starting to think there is a minimium number of times you have to apply before they give it to you. LOL

So what happens to your negative score after 7 (or 10) years? do you have to build up credit again or does it stay where it's at with no credit history?
