Blackjack USB Modem Setting/Can't Charge

I was using 3G and my Blackjack as a modem. Then I get an alert that the battery was low. I was on a phone call and wanted to finish the call but the phone cut off sooner than I had expected.

Anyway, my phone was useless the rest of the day until I got home to swap the battery with the secondary one that was charging. The reason being is because when the phone cut off, the USB was still configured to be used as a modem so I could not recharge my phone with my USB cable since the phone does not charge while in USB modem mode.

So FYI, if you ever use your Blackjack as a modem, always remember to change it back to ActiveSync or Mass Storage so if you need to recharge or if your battery dies you will at least be able to charge it again with the USB cable. I did not see if the wall adapter would make a difference or not since I did not have it with me.

When using my blackjack as a modem, I do so via Bluetooth so I still have the option of plugging it into the wall if I start sucking down too much battery

You can not charge while tethering. The BJ needs special drivers to charge though USB. There drivers are only loaded when you have the activesync profile selected

I saw this in another thread as a way of still using the phone as a modem and still charging the phone. Do you know if there is any performance decrease from tethering through bluetooth?
