ESPN RADIO on BLACKJACK!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: BigEvan23

Don't know if this was already posted or not but I did a little digging on the .asx file for ESPN radio and found this:

when I opened the URL using Windows media it loaded espn radio right up. This is just great for me!

It might be a good idea to compile the url's for all of the streaming radio sites on the net so we can make our own streaming radio playlists for the BlackJack.

Just a thought.

Oh and for those new yorkers that can't get enough Z100:

WOW...just to add to that previous post...this site has it all! Look for the lightening bolt icon for streaming url's

Posted by: jpbadonk

Any way to open .asx files directly from IE on the BJ? I get an error message.

Posted by: BigEvan23

Im gonna save the asx files on my computer and store them on my memory card. That way WMP will let me create a playlist of stations. It works great...I'm really happy here!

some good info here. thanks!

Posted by: maevro

Sweet, I listen to ESPN Radio here in NY everyday and when I get to work, I am downstairs so it is hard to get a strong 1050am signal and I get 3G on my phone there, so I should get a good stream.

Thanks man, this is great.

Posted by: Ghettopops

Yeah I get that can not save the playlist because it contains one or more items that are not stored on your device or storage card.

ok am I the retard here then? I cannot get both EI or WMP to allow me to enter that many characters, stops after loop I think it is.

Posted by: pavvento

ok so I get the 'link' from the website, but nothing that has .asx in it, i'm a little lost here...

Posted by: maevro

If you enter the address into IE (Address Bar) it will play through Windows Media Player. Everything works for me.

Most of those addresses were too long to enter all the text

Posted by: pavvento

Using the ESPN radio link posted above and hte z100 link posted above I had no problems playing through windows media player. My two questions are

1) How do you find the .asx locations for other stations? I sent to that website but none of the links said .asx

2) How can i save these locations to make a playlist? When I go to 'my playing' and then 'add to playlist' it says that it can't b/c the file isn't located on the device.

This feature would be great and I look forward to using it, thanks a lot in advance for your help.

i have a "mobile fav" folder in my desktop IE fav list.

when i sync it gets added to my 8525 ..

works like a charm.

basicly create the fev on the desk top .. add them to the mobile fav folder.. presto they are on the phone when you sync it ;D

Posted by: maevro

aaadock is corrent, thanks for the good tip. When you sync, it should get imported.

Also, on the 8125 I remember being able to remove the number/letter max capacity in the reg edit.

Posted by: jsmcguir

Thanks for the links! i cant get the espn link to work, however. now, i am using the 8525 and not the blackjack, and all the other links work...

Thanks

I listen to ESPN Radio on my phone everyday. The one thing that bothers me is that ESPN has shows that are national and they have shows that are region oriented. That link goes to ESPN West Coast and I am in NY, so certain shows that I normally listen to, I cant on the phone.

I still enjoy it and glad I use it.

Yes please post more soon. The ESPN TV didn't work for me at first. I had to change the beginning from rstp:// to mms:// and then it worked fine. Like others the CNN only had audio and no video. The NBA TV said it was from Nov 22??? Is it an old stream.

One interesting thing I found was that I was streaming faster then my 8525 could handle. The ABC channel was pushing out like 450+ kbps and was causing my phone to choke and skip frames. To fix this I went into Windows Media player, selected Menu/Options/Network and changed my connection speed to 256 kbps and unselected "detect connection speed" After I did that I was able to watch the video alot smoother. It then was streaming at about 180-200 kbps. Don't get me wrong I love the 3G speed, but this was ridiculous.

Another awesome thread for 3G'ers!

Posted by: brettatk

Am I doing something wrong? I enter the address and it says connecting. Then it shows Buffering (0%) and nothing else happens until I get an error. Any suggestions?

Posted by: fifty50

i noticed on cingular video that they have these video streams from cnn, espn, etc. are they free? i have the blackjack with the media max 200 plan and was wondering if i'd be charged extra for viewing the videos.

i'm new to all this, before the blackjack i've only used the phone i had...as a phone.

Posted by: torifile

These links don't seem to work with Opera. For some reason, it refuses to launch WMP when clicking on the link.

I created a page where I've linkified all these sites and set it as my homepage. I'm planning on adding to it as I get more links from this thread. You can feel free to download it here.

Just look at the 1050 one...its WEPN and you can get the local ESPN broadcast. The one i posted is actually the national one. I like Colin Cowheard and Erik Cusilias much better than Michael Kaye and Steven A but thats just me. Also, a new yorker.

Awesome thread. Thanks for the streams!

Posted by: audiorox

That CNN one is from around Thanksgiving...

Is there one that stays updated?

Posted by: acevntura5

two things
1- i would also LOVE some updated video's, for example if there was an espn one which was updated that would be awsome
2- i am still confused about saving these to the phone. what exactly do you do to save them to your computer then how do you set them to transfer them to your phone when you sinc. i dont have an sd card so i would just be saving them to my phone...i am confused. if you could go through the steps with an .asx file that would be greatly appreciated

Posted by: derekdru

I can pull these up on my BJ but the volume is so low! Is there a way to pump it up? Maybe a reg hack?

Anyone knows how to stream shoutcast streams on Blackjack ?

Posted by: gahbmwm5

Hi All...great thread as I'm typing this question right from my Blackjack...so the link that I supply is not formatted nicely to go directly to it...

I came across a similar thread on another mobile forum, regarding 'xm streaming radio'...and a reply was posted that this link can be utilized for streaming radio on the B.J.

http://www.thestreamcenter.com/pda

Now I have the unlimited PDA plan and good 3G coverage in my area, and going to this site and trying a couple of the Radio Stations in my state play nicely on WMP 10 Moble...just got a pair of decent ear phones....my questions is:

With my current unlimited PDA plan @$39.99 per month along with my 'Voice Plan' @ another $39.99, I can listen to these great streaming radio stations as long as I want to without incurring additional monthly charges....? Kind of new to the entire SmartPhone scene with all the various Carrier plans.....

Thanks....

Posted by: maevro

Man, I used to get every radio station with my Blackjack but with my Treo, it always loads and gives me an error. I miss my daytime ESPN Radio.

Which ESPN link are you using? When I had my 8125 and Blackjack, I used this one....

http://espnrad.vo.llnwd.net/o10/esp...radio061027.asx

But when I tried it on my Treo 750, I got the same thing you got. Then I tried using http://208.53.158.82:80/wepn?MSWMExt=.asf & it works.

Also, it is easiest if you create a favorite in IE with the link and everytime you want to listen to the ESPN Cast, just open your favorite.

Also, see what bandwidth you are using with your WMP, that can make a difference.

Posted by: ER1300

can someone answer the Q that was asked...Will Cingular charge a fee in addition to the Media Max or unlimited PDA for streaming radio or video?

I go to www.shoutcast.com - scroll down to a station I want to listen to - then click on the link to the station (not the "Tune In" button). On the station's web page they normally have a link to a Windows Media stream.

Hello, your best bet is to call/visit your local Cing/AT&T Corp store and inquire about this 'just to make certain'...I found out that with my 'unlimted PDA plan' that I can stream radio/video all day/night without incurring any additional charges....but with your Media Max, you definately want to get an accurate clarification...
Streaming radio/video (according to AT&T Store Manager) is basically just processing data via the internet...so for my plan, I'm fine...if I suddenly find some unexpected additional $$ charges on my next monthly then I can go right to the AT&T store...I always like to cover my arse...so to speak..he-he

Maevro,

I need to 'thank all the great members' of these forums as the info found is fantastic, informative...ect.
Glad that you were able to get your ESPN radio to stream successfully on your Treo 750..

Heres one for you guys.

I travel quite a bit so I am always switching from phone mode to flight mode and back. Does anyone know a shortcut to turning on the flight mode or a way to place that link on the vertical menu that comes from the wheel?

Odd, but the WEPN link no longer works. Any ideas?

I currently have a VZW Treo and I stream WEPN through it in NC. (Just Moved here from NY in Nov) Waiting on my Blackjack as well

I have noticed every month or 2 the link does not work for a day or two. It didnt work for me earlier this week but its fine now. It has happened to me once or twice. Dont know why.

I stream it through streamcenter ,so I think maybe the url changes slightly and has not updated on the streamcenter site. just a guess.

Posted by: maevro

Here is another nice link.....

http://home.versatel.nl/c.pootjes05/

It is a foreign site (I live in the US) but they have tons of radio stations and TV stations which actually work well. I guess it is out of the Netherlands, so they have stations from there and the United States.

Posted by: trjons

These are all great links but none of the Tv sites work for me. I am on WM6 and not using the Cingular proxy if that matters.

Thank God for Slingbox!

Posted by: VIPERxGTx2000

This has been asked numerous times by different people but no one has answered. How do you save a playlist on the blackjack???

Posted by: thetacoking2

What he said, how can I save these station onto the BJ. This would help immensely. Thanks

Posted by: Lefty_gunz187

Just got my BJ. I dont add the url to the playlist. I just add the url for the www.streamcenter.com/pda search results for WEPN 1050 ESPN radio to my favorites. Pull it up, click the 32k link and away i stream.

Takes as long as pulling up media player and going to your playlist and playing it from there.

Just an option

Are you running 3G (either UMTS or HSDPA)? I can watch all of the TV channels when in 3G but not always with EDGE.

Create a favorite in IE. In the url space, just add the link for the radio station or TV channel. When you want to listen/watch, just go into favorites.

Posted by: gambit800a

everyone needs slingbox. get ALL Directv channels with no monthly fee!

there is no fee for streaming on a media max plan because it is against the terms and conditions of service of all the data plans. They cant forbid it and charge a fee for it at the same time, the fee would be tacit permission.

Posted by: trjons

How can it be against terms and conditions of data plans if they bundle XM radio (trial) and MobiTV (trial) and encourage you to purchase monthly subscriptions?

Seems hypocritical for them to say its agains their T&C to stream free sites but not to stream subscription sites.
