Re-Activating a RIM 950

Does anybody know if its possible to re-activate an old RIM 950? I loved the form factor and I've become interested in getting one again, but it looks like none of the major networks still support Mobitex and old companies like GoAmerica have moved on.

Modern Blackberry's seem a little too big (and too expensive as I already have a Treo) for my needs. I just need a simple email viewer with Push as Chatter seems to like crashing my Treo 650, and I don't need another cell phone. Hence my interest in getting a old RIM.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109)

The 950's were great devices.

Unfortunately you're not likely able to activate new accounts on Mobitex.

You can probably activate this on www.velocitawireless.com

If it's not GPS, it can't be done. Farthest back I know of is the 6750...no clue about others.

Yea I emailed them but they don't have any kind of online says information, so thats why I asked here.

I contacted Rogers a long while back, and they said that they can still do it no problem.

I know this doesn't help you much, but it all depends on the service provider. If they still support the 950's/957's, then you're golden. I don't remember the specific details, but the older models don't work on the new GSM/GPRS towers.

If you do manage to get it activated somehow, you'l' be glad to know that they'll be much cheaper data plan - since the RIM is impossible to have voice capabilities, the SP will usually drop the price about 40%.

Just my two cents

Please post here if you have success as I am looking for the same thing for my SO. I bought her a 957 on eBay last year and planned to activate it with Earthlink but they changed their wireless service from the Mobitex network to Cingular I beieve.
