Anyone having any luck with the above synching their Outlook notes on their Blackjack? It appears in Activesync but when the sync runs, notes are not synching in either direction?

Maybe it's related to AS 4.5...

Mick

I'm not having any problems.

Posted by: mickliq

are you using?

Posted by: spartanrob

The software that came on the BJ disk

Yes, it's a known issue of AS 4.5 Beta2
Uninstall and reinstall AS 4.2; your note field will be sync'd once again

Much appreciated, will try once I get the BJ unlocked!!!

Using Activesync 4.2 but notepadsync does nothing. Thoughts??

Yeah, I'm having the same problem using AS 4.2, never messed with 4.5. I'm really trying to get this to work. Can anyone that has it working answer:

Thanks, I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling AS and notepadsync a number of times.

Posted by: Kevad007

I am using an older version Outlook with net folders for intra-office updates and syncing using the old Postoffice program from Windows 95/98, so I choose not to install the Outlook on the BJ CD disk because it warned that the current version no longer supports net folders. I cannot get the Notes to sync but everything else does. I assumed my issue was due to my not using the more recent Outlook that comes on the CD, but if its something else I would also welcome any fix or info. how to get it working correctly.

I'm having the same problem. Unable to sync notes, unable to open notepadsync settings.

I migrated from a treo to a Blackjack. Is it possible that the Treo hotsync conduit software affected Outlook? Did you formerly sync with a treo, by any chance?

  • Are you syncing directly with the server or with a local outlook?
  • If local, what version of outlook (I'm using 2003)?
  • If you double click on the "NotePadSync" icon in AS, does it acutally open options? For me it flashes "Opening settings" and then disappears w/o ever showing any options.

Thanks, I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling AS and notepadsync a number of times.

is it possible to sync the notes with mail2web?

Posted by: BD1

I don't know if it helps you solve this but I have Notepadsync working. I am using Activesync 4.5 (beta). I also have hotsync on my machine as I migrated from a treo. Do you have notepadsync "checked" under options once you installed it? I am using Outlook 2002.

I had NotePadSync installed and was seeing the same errors as the others. I went and upgraded to AS 4.5beta and still no change. Uninstalled and re-installed NotePadSynce and now it is not grayed out and the icon is different. However, it is still not syncing notes and I am getting the "Needs Attention" error, but no other detail then that. Not sure what about it "needs attention".

I am using it with Outlook 2003, currently syncing over USB.

Thoughts, suggestions?

I gave up on NotePadSync, and installed SmartPhoneNotes and it syncs perfectly with Outlook 2003. It will not be in the regular "Notepad" folder but a folder called "smartphonenote", but it is easy enough to put this in the quicklist. It has a trial edition, and I tried it out for a week befor buying it is is definitely worth it for me.

PS: Vapor, when were you going to tell me you got a Blackjack? CONGRATULATIONS, hope you are enjoying it, I certainly am.

I saw that once too in one my attempts of uninstall/install. I think the some NotePadSync files and/or executables are missing. They are usually in Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/NotePad* -- you should seem some familiar looking icons. A reinstall of NotePadSync or ActiveSync returned it to it's normal non-working condition for me

I am getting tempted to try the trial SmartPhoneNotes but the principal of paying $ for something that should have been included and free urkes me. Really, who needs voice dial besides the states where it's going to be required by law?

I'm not convinced that smartphonenotes will work if this isn't but I guess that's what the trial is for.

Smartphone notes works great right "out of the box". I also tried PhatNotes and it only sync'd 72 out of 135 notes, in no particular order. Their Tech Support was useless.

Just picked it up this week. I had found myself using a lot of data on the 6131 and when I found out that I was in a 3G market, I had to check out the 3G phones. I was originally going to go and get the LG500, but was a little concerned about the screen size. They happened to have a BJ on display and after playing with it for a couple of minutes I decided to go for it.

Also, thanks for the tip Charylee, I will check that program out, but as someone mentioned before, it's kind of rough paying for something that we shouldn't have to. I don't do a lot of note taking, but I do enough where I would like it to sync.

I am going to keep playing with Notepad Sync and see where I can get with it. I'll post back if I find any success.

Why doesn't my AS4.2 even show an option for syncing notes?

Posted by: Vapor03

You must install NotepadSync from the CD that came with your phone. I also think that to get this to work, AS4.5 Beta is going to be needed. NotepadSync, while it showed up in AS4.2, was ignored. At least in AS4.5 Beta I am getting an error (as in it is getting acknowledged).

Posted by: mickliq

I started this thread, so here is my update:

Uninstalled AS4.5 and installed AS4.2. NotepadSync still not working. Uninstalled and reinstalled NPS...still not working.

Installed smartphonenotes...works like a charm. As with others, it makes me sick that I have to pay for an app that is otherwise included free, but which doesn't work.

bizarre. Notepad Sync works fine for me and has from the start. Oh, well. You're better off with Smartphonenotes anyway as there are more options. Off topic, I'll note that Samsung's Smartsearch, which is just a repackaged and enhanced Smartphonesearch by Syncdata, appears to be a little better than Syncdata's direct offering.

Posted by: iJITSU

Guess I responded too soon. After some time, my device stop syncing all together. I eventually narrowed it down to Notepad Sync. After deleted the app, it started syncing again. Never had that issue with Smartphonenotes.

Posted by: sheltem

I use smartphonenotes and it rarely ever gives me problems. I highly recommend it. Although it is nice to see Samsung bundle all these applications with their phone.

So does NotePadSync work with AS 4.2 or not?

Posted by: dgelfuso

does for me

Posted by: jgomez

I spoke with Samsung's level 3 tech support after waiting an hour. It is a known issue and "Cingular" will be sending a fix in the near future.

Your kidding. I can't sync my notes until Cingular sends our an update?!

I am using AS 4.2, and it doesn't work.

Posted by: jgomez

unfortunately that is what they told me.

Ack. I use my notes as a storage place for all my passwords, as I am a network admin. So when I am out in different areas of the building, I use my PDA (now BlackJack) to recall my one of a million passwords.

Now, I am left in the cold. Thanks BlackJack!

I find that incredulous - why would a network admin store passwords in a unsecure application such as notes? Wouldn't it make more sense to use something like CodeWallet or another such program??

I sapose, but I work in a locked room and my workstation locks after a short period of walking away from it. The phone has a pin on it. I have always just used notes.

Posted by: CPTek

Notepad Sync on the BlackJack works just fine. However, the place you need to access the notes is deep in the menus.

To access the notes that have been synced you need to install the NoteSync software from the BlackJack CD.

On the phone: Start > Organizer > Notepad

I still have not found there the files are stored, but none the less they are on the device. On my Windows Mobile Pocket PC I could see the note files.

Hope this helps. I am using Active Sync 4.2, which came on the CD.

i don't believe that its the problem with notepad sync software because i tried this on several machines. the only way i could get it work is to create a new profile for outlook and setup a pop3 account. once i did that, i opened outlook with new profile.
Synced the device, consequently, test notes in the phone and all other notes showed up in outlook. it seems like if you have exchange mail setup in outlook and if they are saved as ost then you can't sync notes. i guess it varies on how outlook is configured.

I'll concur with this as well. My goal was to get Notes to sync up on my laptop for work and that is the computer that I was focusing on. Over the holidays I went ahead and set up AS on my personal computer and 'lo and behold, my Notes sync'd up.

Kudos for noticing the Exchange/POP3 variation, as I have been focusing on other settings so far. I'll play around with this based on your findings.

I still think that it is a "bug" personally, as it should be able to sync with either setup.

I think this is the problem. When I Activesync at home with Outlook, my notepad sync's fine, because the .pst files are stored locally. When I'm at work, using Outlook via an Exchange server, the notes do not sync, most likely because the .pst file is stored remotely.

Posted by: foolio75

So the problem is understood -- no one has seen a solution yet though?

Posted by: pjgwilliams

I have same problem. It's very annoying, the P680 i chaged for synced notes no problems. Samsung tech told me to install MITS driver from Samsung download site. Use the one from the i320.

Unfortunately error only changes. If set not to sync then error is "attention required". If set to sync then Activesync just crashes.

Help &^%^&@ (Frustrated ex palm user)

Posted by: rsync

I configured Outlook with a Hotmail account on my home PC (Vista Ultimate). Notepadsync does not work. Gives an error : attention required.
Sometimes when it syncs periodically, says sync was successful, but the notes are not synced.

At work I have Windows XP and there Notepad Sync crashes and locks up outlook. Outlook has to be killed and I have to logout to resume other syncing like calendar etc.

Really frustrating. I too was a happy Palm user!
